Pink Tutu Blog London: Post 1368 - Friday, November 18th, 2022 - A Tutu-tastic Day in the Big Smoke!

Hello darlings, it's your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, back again from another fabulous week on the road, and oh my, London never fails to charm! I’m coming to you live from my lovely little hotel room in Bloomsbury, and let me tell you, it’s been a whirlwind day of shopping, sights and… well, tutus of course!

A Derbyshire Lass Taking the Train to London

The journey started early, with a quick kiss goodbye to the familiar rolling hills of Derbyshire. Something about hopping onto a train in my favourite tutu makes me feel like I’m stepping into a scene from "The Sound of Music." You can’t tell me that those nuns didn't have a good time twirling in their habits!

This week, I was on the 08:45 express from Matlock, a glorious little town nestled amidst the Peak District National Park. My comfy pink cardigan (yes, even train travel requires a pink touch!), and a stack of travel magazines kept me entertained, although frankly, all I could think about was my London itinerary. I've got a penchant for discovering those hidden gems tucked away down tiny streets, and I couldn't wait to see what delights awaited me today.

A Shopaholic's Dream: The West End

First stop was Oxford Street - the heart of London's shopping scene, a fashionista's playground. I was on the hunt for a statement necklace to go with my favourite sequined tutu (because a girl's got to have options, right?). After weaving through the bustling crowds and dodging shopping bags the size of small dogs, I landed a veritable treasure - a gold chain with a chunky amethyst pendant. The perfect accent for that touch of regal glam I love.

Culture, Clothes and the Cutest Cafe Ever

Now, I don't believe in a day in London without a little dose of culture. So next up, we popped into the National Gallery - not a museum of ballerinas, I must stress, but definitely a temple to beauty! We marvelled at masterpieces by Turner, Van Gogh, and Renoir, but to be honest, my gaze was a tad distracted by the magnificent architecture and intricate details of the building itself. Talk about picture perfect!

You can’t go on an adventure without fuel, can you? After an hour or so soaking in the atmosphere, we stumbled upon the cutest little cafe, aptly named "Tea and Tutus". It wasn’t exactly what you'd expect in the heart of London's tourist district. Tucked away down a tiny side street, it had floral wallpaper, charming wicker furniture, and an entire menu dedicated to ballet-themed delights (I couldn't resist the "Sugar Plum Latte"). The only thing missing? More tutus, of course!

Fashion, Fancies and Friday Night Fever

Next stop was Covent Garden. It was just bursting with energy. A symphony of street performers - juggling, singing, and even playing the most beautiful renditions of Vivaldi on a violin. And of course, I had to capture a few moments of this musical extravaganza on my Insta - I can't resist a little impromptu fashion show in front of such a lively backdrop!

My Friday night ritual always involves a dose of live theatre. Today was a real treat – a fabulous West End production of "Cinderella". I've loved Cinderella ever since I was little, so seeing it on stage, surrounded by all that glamour and sparkle, was magical! And yes, I did have a little twirl myself during the interval, with the chandelier glittering above.

The evening culminated with a truly dazzling ballet performance. Nothing beats seeing talented dancers interpreting classics like "The Nutcracker" with such grace and passion. It just inspires me, rekindles my love for the art, and, let’s be honest, gives me a serious case of the dancing feet!

Homeward Bound, With Tutu Dreams and a Heart Full of Joy

That’s a wrap on my London adventure! And believe me, darlings, it’s been a truly tutu-tastic day! It's always a privilege to escape the routine and experience London's vibrancy firsthand.

As I hop onto the train home, my pink tutu still trailing gracefully behind me, I can't help but feel a sense of gratitude for this magical city. It's filled with stories, laughter, sparkle, and of course, more tutus than you could shake a stick at!

London, I love you - until next time, I'm off to chase some ballet dreams in my beloved Derbyshire!

Emma

A Word About My London Travels: A Ballerina's Perspective

This week, like many others, was fueled by the magic of the ballet. You might wonder how I, a relatively "new" professional, can afford all these trips to London. Well, darlings, I’ve discovered that my love for ballet, my passion for travel, and a bit of strategic planning can go a long way.

Here are a few secrets to my travelling lifestyle:

  1. Dancing for My Dream: It's no secret that dancers have to be tenacious. Besides my professional engagements, I perform in local ballet companies, festivals, and special events. These extra gigs keep my funds flowing, allowing me to travel with my tutu and chase my passion!

  2. Creative Finances: I’m a believer in mindful budgeting. I meticulously track every penny (well, maybe a bit less meticulously when a beautiful tutu calls my name!) and I'm a pro at snagging travel deals, especially those discounted train tickets. It’s a real challenge sometimes to say "no" to a pair of designer shoes or that tempting cashmere sweater, but ultimately, those adventures to London and other magical cities are more than worth it.

  3. A World of Connections: You'll be amazed at the connections a dancer makes! The world of ballet is one giant network of passionate people - fellow dancers, instructors, choreographers, and audience members. And guess what? A little bit of friendly chatter about our love for ballet often leads to opportunities to share stories, perform at new venues, and explore new cities.

Let's Celebrate the Love of Travel!

Travel, my darlings, is truly a transformative experience. Whether it's a trip to London's vibrant West End, a weekend exploring charming coastal towns, or simply a journey into your own backyard, embracing the beauty and diversity of life is an absolute must!

So go ahead, wear your pink tutu (or your most vibrant attire!), jump on a train, a plane, or your favourite scooter, and set out to explore the wonderful world. You'll discover treasures beyond your wildest imagination!

And remember: It’s all about the journey - the people you meet, the places you visit, the memories you make. It’s all an adventure worth savoring, one tutu-tastic step at a time!
