Pink Tutu Blog London: #1530 A Tutu-tiful Day in London!

Oh my darlings! Happy Boxing Day! 🎄 I hope you’re all recovering from the festivities and ready for a little festive cheer in London with your favourite tutu-wearing blogger! 💖 Today, I'm swapping the mince pies for a delicious afternoon tea, the Christmas decorations for a magical theatrical performance, and the comfy armchair for a delightful stroll around one of the world's most iconic cities.

This Friday, I hopped aboard the train from Derbyshire (all snuggled in my favourite pink tulle skirt, of course!), feeling absolutely giddy about spending the day in the capital. It's a good job I love the train! My fellow travellers gave me the most curious looks. One elderly gentleman, bless him, was actually wearing a Christmas jumper featuring a dancing ballerina, so I'm pretty sure my tutu outfit was more than welcome in this festive carriage.

But first things first, breakfast! And where better to fuel up than at the Covent Garden Market. There's something so lovely about starting the day in the heart of London. I swear, every corner here is Instagrammable! After an espresso and a couple of raspberry pastries (raspberry is my favourite colour after all!), I wandered down the rows of charming stalls, gazing at the exquisite craftsmanship. A handmade wooden ballerina toy for the office caught my eye and I almost treated myself, but then remembered the massive mountain of tulle and sequin fabric in my luggage – maybe next time, my little dancer friend!

Next, onto the main event! A festive performance at the Royal Opera House. The iconic red building had me swooning before I even set foot inside. As a ballet fanatic, my heart soared with anticipation, a pink butterfly flapping its wings in my chest. This month’s ballet performance was ‘The Nutcracker’ - the absolute epitome of winter magic! 🩰 From the opening curtain to the final curtain call, the breathtaking sets, exquisite costumes, and masterful artistry had me completely mesmerized. The dancing was nothing short of phenomenal. It filled me with joy and inspiration and I had the biggest, goofiest smile plastered on my face all through the show.

Of course, a ballet day is never complete without a little indulgence! And who can resist a proper English afternoon tea? The charm of London tea rooms is just irresistible! My chosen spot was The Savoy Hotel's afternoon tea service, the quintessential London experience. The delicate sandwiches, fluffy scones with clotted cream and jam, and perfectly brewed tea left me completely smitten. And let's not forget the delicious cake selection – a delicate pink strawberry éclair was my absolute favourite. It felt as if the fairies themselves had designed it! 🍓

Afterwards, with my sugar rush and newfound energy, I took a charming stroll through Regent’s Park. I love that they have a beautiful winter village this time of year. All those twinkling lights – perfect for a ballet dancer's whimsical spirit! It felt incredibly magical, especially since I had been daydreaming all day about those beautiful sugarplum fairies dancing in the ‘Nutcracker.’

Before calling it a night, I had to visit Liberty’s - a vintage fashion wonderland. London, you are truly a city that speaks to my very soul. They had the most amazing selection of lace and silk, as well as an entire floor dedicated to accessories and perfumes. I picked up the prettiest, most delicate tulle scarf. It was the perfect complement to my festive spirit and had to be a present to myself!

As I wandered back to my hotel (tutu still intact, I might add! That tulle is incredibly robust, you know), the city twinkled and pulsed with its vibrant energy. With so much history, culture, and beauty at every turn, it’s no wonder London remains one of my most cherished travel destinations.

Until next week, my dearest readers! Remember, it’s all about finding joy in the little things – a delicious afternoon tea, the sparkle of fairy lights, and, of course, a bit of pink tutu magic sprinkled on everything. Don’t forget to share your London adventures with me!

Much love, Emma xoxo

P.S. If you are thinking about visiting London this month, make sure to check out the incredible pantomime performances! They are a British Christmas tradition with vibrant sets, catchy songs and plenty of slapstick humour – perfect for a fun, family day out!

P.P.S. My favourite ballet performance, ‘Swan Lake’ is running at The Royal Ballet next month, and I can’t wait to see it! If you’re in the mood for some classical ballet, then this is one not to be missed!

P.P.P.S. Of course, no ballet enthusiast can visit London without stopping at a decent fabric store! It’s always a magical experience to walk through shelves and shelves of glorious satin and silk, not to mention all the beautiful tulle. Maybe this will inspire you to have a little ‘tutu’ moment of your own? I bet it would make you smile. 😊
