Pink Tutu Milan - Post #1: A Whirlwind of Pink in the City of Fashion!

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma here, your very own Pink Tutu Ballerina, writing to you from the dazzling city of Milan, Italy! 🇮🇹

Yes, you heard that right! Your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing blogger has taken her love for the art form and a good twirl right to the heart of fashion and elegance. And let me tell you, this city is just bursting with colour, culture, and inspiration – a ballerina's dream come true!

Today's date is June 14th, 1995 – a beautiful summer's day here in Milan. The sun is shining, the sky is a perfect Italian blue, and I’m absolutely brimming with excitement as I write to you from my little rented apartment overlooking the charming cobblestone streets.

But first, let me tell you how I ended up here! It all started with a particularly glorious performance back in my hometown of Derbyshire, England. After an encore that truly had the audience in a frenzy, a handsome, impeccably dressed gentleman with twinkling eyes approached me. He introduced himself as Alessandro – a prominent theatre producer in Milan. We talked for hours that evening, sharing stories of our shared love for the ballet, the magic of theatre, and the beauty of a perfectly executed pirouette. As fate would have it, he had a show opening in Milan that needed a special dancer, a ballerina with an eye for beauty and a flair for the dramatic. Guess who fit the bill perfectly? This little Pink Tutu Ballerina, of course!

And so, with a skip and a twirl, a pink tutu packed snugly in my bag, and a heart full of Italian dreams, I found myself here, in Milan!

Since arriving a couple of weeks ago, I've been whisked about the city, discovering its hidden gems and marveling at its architectural brilliance. I’ve taken a couple of lessons at the Teatro alla Scala – an experience I can only describe as magical, a dance amongst legends, literally!

And of course, I’ve already found a couple of places for a ballet-obsessed girl to shop ‘til she drops. One shop in particular, in the Quadrilatero d’Oro, a street known for its haute couture boutiques, had a pink-tutu-wearing mannequin in the window that gave me quite a thrill! I had to stop in and have a browse - the clothes here are exquisite!

Last week, I spent a few hours just exploring the beautiful parks – such as Parco Sempione and Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli - that dot the city, soaking up the sun, watching families picnicking, and letting my thoughts wander to all the beauty this amazing city holds.

From Trains to Tramways – Finding Milan’s Soul

One thing I’ve absolutely fallen in love with here in Milan are the trams and the old-fashioned electric trains. The journey from my flat to the rehearsal studio or theatre is a delightful adventure. You feel the heartbeat of the city as you trundle along the charming streets, observing the locals bustling about their daily lives. It’s a glimpse into a vibrant, passionate community, and a constant source of inspiration.

Today, however, I am preparing to witness the magic of ballet here in Milan! Later this evening, I am going to see a performance by the world-famous Teatro alla Scala Ballet company. This is what I’ve been working towards, what I’ve been dreaming about since I received Alessandro's call. To step into the legendary halls of this historic theatre is a dream come true!

And speaking of dreams, the ambition of Pink Tutu Milan is no less daring - to share the joy of ballet, the beauty of pink, and the inspiration of this incredible city with every single one of you. This is just the first post, and I am already so excited to bring you with me on this amazing journey of ballet, fashion, and the pursuit of all things pink!

But first, let’s talk fashion!

Milan is synonymous with style, sophistication, and an innate understanding of the art of fashion. I’ve been inspired by the bold choices, the impeccable tailoring, the effortless grace. It's clear that the women here really know how to dress, and I'm determined to soak up every last bit of sartorial inspiration.

Today, my look is classic with a touch of Milanese chic. I’m wearing a simple black pencil skirt with a white lace blouse that billows gracefully in the warm Italian breeze. But no Pink Tutu Blogger is ever complete without a touch of pink, so I've added a vibrant pink silk scarf to accentuate my outfit, along with a pair of classic nude pumps, perfect for the long day ahead.

A Ballerina's Dream Day: Shopping, Ballet, and Pizza

But first things first, darling! Before heading off to see this show, I’ve decided to make a special stop at one of Milan's finest delicatessens. I plan on indulging in a selection of freshly baked pastries – nothing like a perfectly crafted croissant to get the day started, or, later, an Italian espresso paired with a melt-in-your-mouth tiramisu!

Later, as the sun sets, painting the sky with shades of lavender and pink, I will indulge in an incredible meal at a local pizzeria - nothing quite like the pizza in Milan! This will be my little celebratory treat for the amazing show.

A Note From Pink Tutu Milan:

From the very beginning, Pink Tutu Milan has always been about more than just dance. It’s about passion, community, and inspiring each and every one of you to embrace the joy and grace that ballet brings to the world.

My goal is not just to show you the magic of the ballet and the thrill of travel, but to show you the power of pink! Pink is more than just a colour. It’s a statement of femininity, joy, and sheer elegance. I believe every woman, no matter their size, shape or style, can and should wear a pink tutu at least once in their life.

This blog, like all my performances, is a dedication to embracing the magic that life has to offer, embracing the feminine spirit that makes us so wonderfully unique! So join me on this pink and delightful journey. Stay tuned, my dears, as I fill you in on all my Milan adventures, every single Monday at www.pink-tutu.com!

Arrivederci for now,

Emma 💖💃✨

P.S. I'll be sharing all the highlights from my experience at Teatro alla Scala, including insights into the ballet, my impressions of the costumes, and a special video of the performance for all you wonderful readers! So come back next week for more Milan adventures!
