Buongiorno from sunny Milan! This week, my fabulous pink tutu and I are soaking up the Italian sunshine and exploring the captivating city of Milan. It's Wednesday, the 25th of October, 1995, and the energy here is absolutely electric! As I sit in my charming little hotel room, overlooking the bustling streets, the intoxicating scent of freshly brewed espresso fills the air, and I can almost hear the whispered promises of an exciting day to come.
Now, you might be thinking, "Emma, how on earth do you manage to travel all around the world with your ballet performances? Don't you ever need to work a real job?" Well, darling, I wouldn't have it any other way! I’m lucky enough to be part of a beautiful and inspiring ballet ensemble, and we travel to perform at the most amazing venues, from quaint little theaters to world-famous stages. Every show is a whirlwind of emotions, a triumph of talent and dedication, and of course, it keeps my pink tutu looking sparkling and new! And the best part? I can afford to indulge in my favourite things: beautiful dresses, delicious gelato, and the ever-so-magical ballet performances that light up my life!
This week, I’m here in Milan for the "Pink Tutu Ball" - a spectacular dance festival dedicated to all things pink! It's the perfect opportunity for a dedicated tutu enthusiast like myself to share my love for the most fantastically frivolous fabric on earth. Just imagine: a whole festival filled with tulle and sparkles, and not just on the dancers! Even the audience is encouraged to dress in their most fabulous pink outfits! It's absolutely thrilling, like a whirlwind of glitter and glamour.
Today, the day of the ball, the streets are brimming with colour and excitement. My heart is racing with anticipation! I woke up this morning feeling like a princess in my dreamy pink dress (of course, with my pink tutu for good measure!), and I can't wait to experience the magic of this vibrant, energetic city. My day starts with a visit to the enchanting Duomo, the breathtaking Milan Cathedral, a glorious fusion of history, architecture, and exquisite detail. After taking in the breathtaking sights of the cathedral, I decided to indulge my inner fashionista!
A walk down the chic Via Montenapoleone was absolutely necessary! The shops there are just...divine! Oh, the colours! Oh, the designs! I almost lost myself in the endless racks of haute couture, dreaming of a pink sequined dress, a fluffy pink coat, or maybe even a pair of glittery pink shoes! I eventually emerged with a darling, delicate pink silk scarf – just the thing to complete my fabulous pink outfit.
Speaking of pink, remember my mission in life, darling? To spread the joy and wonder of pink tutus to every corner of the globe! And in a city like Milan, so famous for its style and sophistication, my efforts were met with… surprise! As I gracefully navigated the cobblestone streets, enjoying a warm gelato while strategically placing myself in the line of vision of potential tutu converts, a sweet old lady chuckled and waved at my dancing feet, adorned with a sparkly pink tulle ribbon. And a charming young gentleman, sporting a dashing velvet suit, gave me a knowing glance, clearly understanding the inherent elegance and audacity of my signature pink ensemble. I think I’ve made a couple of new fans today, darling!
For dinner tonight, we're heading to Trattoria Barzetti – a hidden gem, with an enchanting old-world charm, tucked away on a narrow street. I can almost taste the delectable pasta and rich tomato sauce – a culinary symphony! And for dessert? More gelato!
Of course, the evening wouldn't be complete without a magical ballet performance! Tonight's spectacle is a modern reimagining of the classic “Sleeping Beauty,” with breathtaking sets and an unforgettable score that will have everyone swaying in their seats, no matter how stiff they may be after a day of shopping! I simply adore this ballet! The choreography is captivating, the story is timeless, and the vibrant costumes add a whole new dimension to the fairytale magic. I can't wait to see the magical story unfold onstage, in all its vibrant colour and drama!
