Pink Tutu Milan #53: Ballet in the City of Style

Ciao Bella!

It's Emma, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, writing to you from the fabulous fashion capital of the world, Milano! I know, I know, you're thinking: what could be more glamorous than Paris? But trust me, Milan has its own unique sparkle, especially for a girl like me who lives for fashion, dance, and all things sparkly. This week I'm going to be spilling all the details about my latest adventure in the land of the Italian masters of style, and trust me, you won't want to miss this!

My journey to Milan began with a lovely train ride from Verona, where I was performing at a local theatre, complete with a breathtaking backdrop of the mountains and vineyards. Nothing says "Ciao bella" like being whisked away on a comfortable train with breathtaking views! Of course, I had to coordinate my outfit for the train journey, choosing a light, flowy midi dress with floral prints and, you guessed it, a pink tutu, naturally!

The Pink Tutu Diaries - Day One in Milan

Arriving at the Milan Central Station was an experience. I had never been to Milan before, and even through the window, I was instantly enthralled by the architecture and the bustling energy of this city. I must admit, finding a taxi with my overflowing suitcase of pink tutus, dance shoes, and accessories, was a little comical! But once we finally settled into the charming hotel (which is a stone's throw away from the Duomo), it was time for a well-deserved nap.

After a short rest, it was off to the city centre. And boy, did Milan deliver! The city felt like it was breathing, brimming with life and colour, and each shop window displayed a dazzling array of haute couture designs. I felt like Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole, and each new shop felt like a magical new Wonderland.

Milan was bursting with street performers, musicians playing haunting melodies, and artists sketching portraits in vibrant hues. It felt like a city designed for daydreaming, for losing yourself in the whirlwind of creativity. You know me, I had to get my tutu fix right away! I found myself gravitating towards a charming street in the heart of the city where the locals flocked for an evening stroll. I grabbed myself a gelato - stracciatella flavour, my personal favourite! - and watched as the locals strutted their style in an enchanting dance of elegance. It was pure magic!

Later that evening, I made my way to the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, which is a must-see for any visitor to Milan. Its vaulted ceilings and magnificent mosaics are simply breathtaking! I spent hours lost in the grandeur of the gallery, observing the elegance of Milan's fashionable folk and the captivating aura of the grand buildings. This place, the epitome of opulence, truly made my tutu-clad heart soar! You can't visit Milan without admiring its stunning architecture and opulent surroundings, especially when dressed in a fluffy, vibrant pink tutu!

Day Two - Finding Fashion and Dancing Shoes

My morning began with a delightful breakfast at a nearby cafe, enjoying delicious croissants, strong Italian coffee, and the captivating view of the bustling streets outside. And then, off to conquer the streets of Milan for a day of fashion shopping.

Milan is the Mecca of fashion. I knew I had to experience the famous fashion houses for myself, so naturally, I made my way to Via Monte Napoleone, a street filled with some of the biggest names in fashion - Gucci, Chanel, Dior, Prada… You name it, they've got it! The shop windows, each a stunning showcase of haute couture designs, made me gasp in awe! They had incredible window displays, all meticulously crafted with the most exquisite details. They're definitely a sight to behold!

As a tutu enthusiast, you'll understand that my mission for the day wasn't simply to buy new outfits but also to find some amazing accessories that would complete my outfit. Luckily, Milan is teeming with fabulous boutiques specializing in vintage fashion and beautiful, eye-catching accessories. And wouldn't you know it? I stumbled upon a little shop on Via Durini that felt like it was straight out of a vintage fairy tale! The shop owner, a delightful lady named Maria, shared her love for vintage fashion and helped me choose some amazing treasures for my wardrobe. Imagine - vintage handbags adorned with exquisite detailing, elegant feather boas, shimmering tiaras, and a collection of gorgeous pink tutus (the perfect shade to match my other pink tutu)!

After hours of shopping and soaking in the dazzling fashion scene, I decided it was time to get my ballet fix. You wouldn't believe this, but the Teatro alla Scala is right in the heart of Milan! This magnificent opera house, with its iconic neoclassical architecture, was something out of a dream! And to make it even more magical, they host the prestigious Teatro alla Scala ballet season, featuring some of the most acclaimed dancers and choreographers in the world.

Of course, my favourite part of the entire experience was their gorgeous gift shop! My eyes went wide with wonder when I saw an entire collection of pink ballet shoes and tutus that would make any dancer's heart skip a beat! This wasn't just any ordinary store; it was a treasure trove of ballet memories. I treated myself to some adorable souvenirs and danced back to the hotel in a blissful state of happiness! The day truly encapsulated the perfect balance of style and dance - a true fairytale for a girl who loves pink tutus.

Day Three - The Enchanted Tram Ride and Street Performances

After a delectable Italian breakfast with croissants, coffee, and freshly squeezed orange juice, I had one last adventure on the cards for Milan! This city has a fascinating tram network, and I knew I had to experience it for myself. So, with my trusty camera in hand, I hopped on board a charming red tram.

The journey was a magical experience, offering a different perspective on this incredible city. The trams slowly navigated the bustling city streets, providing breathtaking views of the Milanese architecture and the city’s colourful residents going about their daily life. The beauty of this vibrant city never ceased to amaze me! It's definitely a unique way to soak up the vibrant atmosphere. And who better to do it than a ballerina in her favourite pink tutu, ready to embrace every delightful detail of this unforgettable journey? You'll never forget those views, I promise!

As I disembarked from the tram and strolled through the enchanting city, the vibrant streets came alive with colourful murals, vibrant displays of Italian artistry, and local talent expressing themselves through street performances. The performers seemed to bring every corner to life with their incredible acts, from acrobats to jugglers, musicians to artists. One act especially caught my eye - a group of street dancers gracefully twirling in a whirlwind of pink tutus, performing choreographies as elaborate as any performance I had witnessed in the theatre! It was absolutely beautiful. It's remarkable how the city breathes creativity - street performers really have their own form of art, a magnificent expression of their skills and dedication to the world around them. It made me wish I could join them in a grand, colourful dance in the centre of it all!

The final evening in Milan had to end with one last culinary masterpiece, an enchanting meal of delicious pasta, an Italian specialty, in the shadow of the Duomo. And what did I choose for my final outfit? Of course, it had to be my favourite pink tutu, topped with a glittering silver shawl for a touch of Milanese glam. As the twinkling lights of the Duomo illuminated the night sky, I savoured my last moments in the City of Style, filled with an indescribable sense of magic.

A Final Thought From Milan

So there you have it! A glimpse into my exhilarating Milan adventure! From exploring the glamorous boutiques of Via Monte Napoleone and dancing around the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, to taking in the dazzling performances and getting a dose of street artistry on the city's charming trams - every single moment felt magical.

I leave Milan with a heavy heart, yet overflowing with memories. I can already feel the pull of this enchanting city on my soul. I know I'll be back for another dance with this magnificent city soon! I encourage every tutu enthusiast to embrace the vibrant energy of Milan - a city of creativity, art, and fashion, perfect for a ballerina’s dream. Until next time, keep shining and keep twirling! And remember, you can always look your best while travelling by adding a dash of pink, with a beautiful pink tutu! It always brightens any day, and reminds us all to spread love, positivity, and glitter in every step of life!
