Pink Tutu Milan: Post 88 - La Dolce Vita in a Pink Tutu!

Ciao Bella!

It's Emma, your Pink Tutu Correspondent, reporting live from the glamorous, fashion-forward city of Milan, Italy! As the saying goes, "What's past is prologue", and Milan, for me, feels like a glorious opening act, filled with sparkling possibilities, a delightful mix of heritage and modernity, and, of course, endless opportunities for tutu-tastic adventures!

This week's post is all about the thrill of arriving in Milan – a city brimming with history and charm, where the buildings seem to whisper tales of renaissance artistry and opulent opera nights. My little pink tutu and I felt very much at home right away, blending seamlessly into the vibrant tapestry of Milanese life, just like a delicate yet strong rose amidst the architectural grandeur.

It’s Wednesday 1997-02-12, and I’ve been in Milan for a couple of days now. After a slightly turbulent train journey, the kind that makes you hold your breath and whisper "tut-tut" (no, not my tutu!), I stepped off the train and inhaled the city's intoxicating energy. From the moment I arrived, I knew this was going to be a memorable trip! The air was crisp and alive with a symphony of car horns and laughter, the bustling streets painted in shades of golden sunlight, and the scent of fresh bread wafting from bustling bakeries...

I always seem to attract the most delightful people while travelling. On my journey from Derby, I found myself sharing a carriage with a charming Italian gentleman who seemed as enchanted by my pink tutu as I was by his animated storytelling. He insisted I learn a few Italian phrases and taught me how to say "Buongiorno" and "Ciao Bella!" with a twinkle in his eye, while I explained the Pink Tutu Philosophy to him.

Arriving in Milan felt like stepping onto a movie set. The grand architecture, the cobbled streets, and the elegance of the locals gave me a strong sense of la dolce vita. And the fashion! Every Milanese lady seemed to wear a story, each outfit telling tales of sophistication, grace, and a distinct Italian flair. You wouldn't believe the chicest outfits I’ve spotted today, but I’ll save that for a future blog post.

Speaking of my little pink tutu, it's already caused quite a stir! It feels a bit like wearing a mini-circus tent around town, catching the attention of passerby. But in the best possible way, of course! It’s a conversation starter, leading to delightful encounters and inspiring smiles. I’ve found that even in a city where fashion is considered a religion, a simple pink tutu speaks a universal language – one of joy, beauty, and the audacity to stand out.

I've also begun to explore Milan's artistic underbelly. I found myself captivated by a lively open-air market bustling with vendors selling antique curios and artisan crafts, everything from hand-painted ceramics to hand-woven scarves. My pink tutu stood out even there! The market had this electric atmosphere, filled with the chattering of locals, the tang of spices, and the joyful melodies of street musicians. I could feel a hundred different stories swirling around me. This market was the perfect place to buy the first gift for my beloved Mum!

I'm particularly excited about the opera performance at Teatro alla Scala happening tomorrow night. You guys know how much I adore the ballet! It's truly an evening of enchantment. I can’t wait to see how the theatre looks in person - it’s a stunning monument to Italian culture and, it seems, my style! Of course, I’m sporting my favourite pink tutu – this time adorned with sparkling silver accents – just for the occasion!

Oh, and my dear reader, I simply couldn’t resist a little tutu shopping in Milan. I am a woman on a mission, spreading the pink tutu gospel, you know. There's a charming little boutique here on Via Monte Napoleone, which is like a mini-kingdom of delicate, flowy fabrics. The proprietor even exclaimed “Fantastico!” at the sight of my tutu! She seems delighted to create some magnificent designs with a dash of pink tutu-tastic sparkle for a special show I’ll be performing at a ballet studio next week!

*I even bought a brand new pair of bright pink ballet shoes – *just perfect for showcasing my elegant leaps and graceful twirls on stage!

And don’t get me started on the divine gelato! I’m enjoying a flavour each day - they have the most delicious rose flavour you've ever tasted, even more delicious than my pink tutu! I will be telling you all about it in a separate blog post soon!

I'll keep you updated on all my adventures! So stay tuned, my lovely tutu-loving friends!

Sending lots of love and pink tutu sparkles,

Emma x
