Pink Tutu Milan: Week 136 – Fashion, Frocks and Fancy Footwork!
Buongiorno, darling darlings! It’s Emma here, back with another exciting instalment from the fashion-forward city of Milan, where the only thing as chic as a couture gown is a pink tutu of course! This week’s been a whirlwind of shopping, sightseeing, and, naturally, dancing my little heart out. As always, it’s been a joy to share it all with you!
Milan, My LoveI can’t help but swoon over this incredible city! Every street corner seems to be a catwalk, with people oozing style from their perfectly coordinated shoes to their head-turning hats. Milan’s got this kind of effortless cool, a je ne sais quoi that just draws me in. Even the tram journeys, where I've happily been catching up with my Instagram followers and sharing little glimpses of my daily adventures, have a touch of Parisian charm to them. There's just this vibrant energy that hums in the air – an energy that’s definitely infectious!
This week, I found myself mesmerized by the sheer beauty of the Teatro alla Scala. It’s a truly grand, historical masterpiece and its elegant façade has become my latest Milan obsession. Just gazing upon it makes me feel like I'm in a movie, maybe something like "The Talented Mr. Ripley", except instead of following a shadowy, manipulative art forger, I'm chasing a shimmering, fantastical world of ballet! And boy, do they do ballet well here!
I’m in heaven watching some of the best dancers in the world take to the stage at La Scala – it’s been a true artistic and visual feast. I felt every note, every step, every intricate spin… it was so powerful and moving, a real celebration of grace and athleticism! You can imagine, a dancer like me couldn’t be happier – I felt like I was in the theatre heaven!
Fashion Finds: Milan EditionWhile I’m utterly entranced by the artistic spirit of Milan, I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t spent my fair share of time delving into the world of fashion too! What's a girl to do with all that stunning design inspiration swirling around her?!
This city just pulsates with incredible fashion choices – and my personal rule when it comes to finding great clothes is: Follow the tutus!
As you all know, my signature look revolves around that beautiful, swirling symbol of the dance world – the tutu! Now, if you've never been to a bustling Italian city and are planning on following my footsteps, keep a couple of things in mind – the fashion sense in Milan isn’t exactly geared for wearing tutus down the cobblestone streets! (Although I’d never discourage anyone from making a fashion statement, dare I say it… even a bold one) So what's a pink tutu enthusiast like myself to do?! Well, Milan has given me the chance to unleash my creative flair by finding tutu-inspired pieces and using them to create a new signature style. And believe me, darling, the possibilities are endless!
This week, I found the most amazing shop that's like a wonderland for ballerinas – imagine a pink cloud floating through the air and you'll have an idea of what I'm talking about! It's stuffed full of adorable tutus, ballet shoes, dance-wear, and a multitude of beautiful dance accessories! And the best part? The colours! From the lightest baby pink to the richest fuchsia, my heart just danced! The owner was an absolute darling, full of infectious passion and bubbly personality, so naturally, she also loved the pink tutu idea!
With this new wave of inspiration and my pink tutu bag packed, I ventured into the world of vintage shops and boutiques, carefully scanning each piece of clothing for that touch of tulle magic! And wouldn’t you know it, I managed to find several tutu-inspired pieces – a stunning, delicate pastel pink top with layered, frilly detail that practically shouted "Pink Tutu", and a pair of vintage ballet slippers – perfect for twirling down the Corso Buenos Aires in style! It’s so easy to look your best here – every corner seems to offer a brand new wardrobe opportunity!
My love for vintage has only increased in this stylish city. The way that Italian fashion history flows onto the streets, and is still so current - the vibrant patterns and unique tailoring makes vintage treasure hunting the best kind of adventure. I've managed to unearth a vintage cashmere sweater, soft and cozy like a gentle embrace. This isn’t just a purchase, this is an investment, a piece of sartorial history that whispers stories from a bygone era.
Foodie Adventures: Italy and its Enchanting CuisineBut fashion and dance aren’t the only things making my heart sing here in Milan! Food – Italy's rich, heart-warming, and simply delectable cuisine! I find myself constantly exploring cafes, restaurants, and food markets, savouring every morsel. It’s impossible not to fall in love with Italy through your taste buds! The passion for fresh ingredients, the intricate aromas of baking bread, the satisfying crunch of a juicy tomato, every meal feels like a celebration!
And speaking of celebrations, my recent discovery of Panettone, this festive bread brimming with candied fruit and raisins, has turned my world upside down! It’s the ultimate comfort food – warm, buttery, and sweetly spiced – perfect for indulging after a day of shopping or a performance at La Scala.
Oh, and how can I forget my first taste of authentic Italian gelato – a symphony of flavour in a single cone! I’ve sampled all kinds of flavours this week – the smooth vanilla, the rich chocolate, the tart passionfruit, each scoop more incredible than the last! I can practically taste the sweet sunshine of this country!
And you know what goes so beautifully with a cone of gelato? A pink tutu! You see, there’s really no dress code where a pink tutu is concerned! You can be in a Michelin-starred restaurant or sipping an espresso at a cafe - and a pink tutu is always the perfect accessory!
Milan Through the Pink-Tinted LensI'm enjoying this experience like a dream – this city that effortlessly balances fashion, art, and tradition. As the sun sets and bathes the cobblestone streets in a soft, golden hue, I can't help but feel this sense of tranquility… except I feel that way every time the sun sets on any place I’m travelling. There's nothing like travelling and really feeling that zen feeling that I often get.
Every single experience here in Milan – whether it’s the bustling crowds, the elegant fashion shows, the rich Italian food, the beauty of La Scala – makes my heart dance! There's an energy that just pulls me in – and then, when I’m exhausted but exhilarated, it’s time for me to grab my pink tutu and return to the comforts of my room to catch up on blogging about the latest escapades!
You see, the world needs to be a bit more pink - we need to let ourselves be joyful, light, and playful – the world would be a far more beautiful place if everyone just put on a pink tutu once in a while! So don't just stand there – embrace the power of pink and the magic of the pink tutu! And let me know if you have any travel recommendations in your part of the world, I would love to hear all about it!
Keep an eye out next week for my latest blog post! Ciao, bella!
