Pink Tutu Milan: #168 - August 26th, 1998: From Derbyshire to Duomo!

Buongiorno, darling readers! It's your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, ballet-loving blogger, Emma, back from the fashion capital of the world – Milan!

My week in Milan has been absolutely fabulous, filled with ballet, beautiful buildings, and oh, so many outfits. As always, I’ve been keeping you all updated on my Instagram, but my Milan blog post gives a proper glimpse into what I've been up to this week, right from my trusty pink tutu perspective, of course.

So, how did I find myself here, twirling in Milan? It all started back in Derbyshire, my home county. My little pink tutu got me a plum spot dancing in the Swan Lake revival, which brought in enough dosh for me to jet off to Milan for a week of fashion and ballet. Who knew dancing swans could buy you such fabulous adventures?

*Arriving in Milan, I felt like a character straight out of a fairytale. * The train station is pure grandiosity, with towering arches, bustling crowds, and an atmosphere thick with a sort of charming chaos. As soon as I stepped off the train, I knew I was going to adore this city.

My trusty little pink tutu was my travel companion, a constant reminder of what brought me here. Don't think for a minute that it was out of place amongst the elegant Milanese. I wouldn't be me if I didn't add a touch of playful pink amidst the city’s sophisticated tones.

Milan's Duomo is an absolute dream, a masterpiece of marble, with a breathtaking gothic structure that makes you feel like you’ve walked onto the stage of a grand opera. The view from the top of the Duomo? Stunning, darling. I almost couldn’t bear to take my eyes off it, the cityscape stretched out below like a vibrant canvas of terracotta roofs, twinkling lights, and the lush greenery of the surrounding parks.

Of course, I had to twirl, just a little, beneath the Duomo, just to soak in the magic of this truly breathtaking city. This little pink tutu of mine knows all the best places to spin. And after twirling in the grand squares, I treated myself to the most gorgeous cappuccinos and panini, deliciously enjoying the aromas and sounds of Milanese street life. The Italian passion for food and drink was palpable, and I indulged fully!

Now, you can't mention Milan without talking about the fashion! The shopping, dear readers, is heavenly! Every street is a runway. And I'm not talking about boring, boring shops. Milan’s got these chic little boutiques crammed full of the most stunning creations – all ready to be taken home by the likes of me!

*Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this cute little pink boutique, bursting with floral prints, polka dots, and vibrant pinks. * You wouldn’t believe the glorious little tutu they had – with fluffy pink feathers, sparkly sequins, and oh, a beautiful little satin bow! You’d be happy to know it’s coming back with me to Derbyshire, for my next performance, of course!

*Then there’s La Scala, Milan's renowned opera house. * The building is just majestic – you have to go see it to truly appreciate the grandeur. This opera house is legendary, steeped in history, and a vital part of Milan’s cultural fabric.

On my trip, La Scala hosted The Nutcracker! The performance was magical. A symphony of light, color, and music – I was mesmerized, caught up in the drama of the ballet and lost in the magic of the story. Seeing The Nutcracker in La Scala was a dream come true!

My favourite thing about visiting a city, especially one as captivating as Milan, is discovering the hidden gems – the streets that only locals know about. It’s so much fun to wander off the tourist trail, take the tram and experience the city from a different perspective, with all the hidden coffee shops, artisan workshops, and tiny little piazzas filled with laughter and chatter.

I've already booked a train back to Derbyshire, and my suitcase is overflowing with new treasures! The shops in Milan are simply irresistible!

Do you love pink as much as I do? Have you been to Milan and explored the amazing sites? Let me know in the comments below! Don’t forget to check out my instagram, and I will be back with more Pink Tutu Milan adventures on the Pink Tutu Blog.

Love, Emma x

P.S. My Pink Tutu is available online for those who’d like a bit of whimsy in their wardrobe! (Just don’t expect me to stop twirling in it, just because it’s in your shopping cart).
