Pink Tutu Milan #178: Ciao Bella! 🩰🇮🇹

Hello my lovely darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu wearing ballerina, Emma, back with another post from fabulous Milano! I’m practically bouncing with excitement – can you tell? My trip to Italy’s fashion capital has been truly spectacular.

Today is Wednesday, November 4th 1998 and, oh my word, what a day! This week has been packed with balletic brilliance, delectable delights, and a fashion frenzy that would make even the most seasoned style icon swoon.

But let me take you back a few days...

Monday’s Manoeuvres:

The week kicked off with a gorgeous sunrise – pink hues, of course, stretching across the Milan skyline. It felt like the perfect start to a magical week.

Speaking of magical, my morning began with a wonderful ballet class at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala! Yes, the La Scala opera house itself! I mean, what better place to practise a few fouettés? Imagine twirling under the chandelier of one of the world's most famous opera houses? The thrill! I swear the energy there is so inspiring - it's no wonder the La Scala has produced so many ballet greats over the years.

Afterwards, I grabbed a quick panini at a charming cafe - the Italians know their bread, that's for sure - and made my way to Piazza del Duomo, the beating heart of Milan. Oh, it's just so breathtaking! I love to see the world through the lens of a tutu, and the Duomo in all its cathedral-esque grandeur really is an unforgettable sight. The pigeons were a little bit much, though... (those fluffy tutu-feathers aren't a good look, darlings).

Later that evening, a dazzling performance at Teatro degli Arcimboldi absolutely blew me away. I'm talking "jaw-dropping", "show-stopping" dancing... a sheer artistic masterpiece! You know I'm a sucker for anything ballet related and this evening was no exception. I got a photo with the lead dancer too, a proper pin-up for the scrapbook! She told me she loves to dance in pink, so maybe one day I'll convince her to try a tutu… it's all part of the plan, don't you see? 😉

Tuesday's Treasure Trove:

Ah, Tuesday… a day for some seriously divine retail therapy. It’s simply impossible to visit Milan and not lose yourself in the glorious boutiques and designer shops that line its streets! Every turn you make, another stunning window display or enticing boutique. My pink tutu wasn’t the only thing attracting attention, I’m sure. The shopping in this city is a dream! From Via Montenapoleone to Via della Spiga to Corso Buenos Aires, it was a symphony of fashion - high fashion, mid-fashion... fashion, fashion, fashion! I felt like a whirling dervish of joy!

I know you love my Pink Tutu Travels - who could resist such a dazzling wardrobe on the go? Today, the tutu was perfectly matched with a luxurious black silk scarf from Gucci, and a pink velvet handbag from Prada, just because, and let’s be honest, every occasion calls for a bit of extra. A pink scarf too would have been too much! 🤫 I am in a pink and black phase at the moment. My suitcase has taken a liking to pink… (and it isn't just my underwear I'm talking about... 😂)

By the time the day wound down, my bags were laden with delights and my mind buzzing with sartorial inspiration. This is why I love Italy – the food is delicious, the art is stunning, the architecture is beautiful, the people are so kind… but my favourite bit is definitely the fashion. They understand style in Milan – they make it a way of life. I just have to be part of it all!

And the rest of the week...

Wednesday… today, well, here we are - ready to embark on another exciting adventure in Milan!

Thursday will be a day to remember as well. The legendary La Scala has invited me to be their guest at a private tour – yes, me, your beloved tutu ballerina! My toes are practically tapping with anticipation as I write this. The anticipation of being let behind the scenes, learning about the rich history of this theatre and getting a glimpse of what goes on before those magical curtain calls… oh, the stories I'll bring you back from those hallowed halls!

Friday will be dedicated to more delicious Italian food, strolling the piazzas, and enjoying the city’s artistic delights - because one can’t always be busy shopping… I have a feeling I will probably just do all the above though, maybe more shopping on the Corso Buenos Aires. Don’t judge, dear friends, it’s the best shopping street in Milan! 🤫

The week is rounded off by a Saturday ballet class in The Galleria at the beautiful Teatro della Scala, then a glamorous evening catching an opera performance. Yes, darlings, I’ve managed to score tickets to a performance of La Traviata, that ultimate love story opera. I do love my classical music and an opera experience will just make my Italian tour complete. It will make a great story to add to my Pink Tutu Diaries.

Of course, no trip to Milan would be complete without trying a creamy gelato and sipping a cappuccino under the Milanese sky, wouldn’t you say?

And lastly, my travels are, of course, financed by my performances, which are booked to help with these ventures, my tutus need travelling after all. They deserve to dance on the biggest stages… they just look too good not to. Don’t you agree? 😊

Until next week, darlings…

Much love, and happy twirling! 🩰❤️

Emma xx

P.S. Don’t forget… the world looks better in pink. Pink tutus for everyone, you heard it here first! ✨
