Pink Tutu Milan - #257 - Wednesday 10th May, 2000

Ciao bella! It's Emma here, fresh off the tram and ready to tell you all about my absolutely fabulous week in Milan!

First things first, I can't believe it's already the 10th of May! Where does the time go? It feels like just yesterday I was wrapping up my performance at the Derby Playhouse - The Nutcracker, a resounding success I might add! 🩰✨

Of course, no Emma Pink Tutu blog would be complete without a bit of a fashion update, right? So, let's talk pink tutus. My latest acquisition? A glorious, shimmering pink tulle creation from a tiny boutique tucked away in a hidden Milanese street - a vintage dream, I tell you! Think a ballerina princess going to a disco ball, and you'll get the picture. I can't wait to wear it for my performance at the Teatro alla Scala this evening. You bet I'm taking a selfie for my Instagram. 📸

Speaking of Scala, oh my word! Can you imagine my excitement?! This is the temple of opera, the birthplace of so many famous ballerinas, and I am dancing here! This whole trip has been about chasing my dream - the perfect tutu, the best shows, and spreading the joy of ballet to everyone I meet! 💖

Before my afternoon of rehearsals, I had a lovely little breakfast of croissants and cappuccino at a cafe near the Duomo. Did I mention the Duomo? Breathtaking! You just have to go there, see the intricate carvings, and stand back and admire its grandeur. You feel like you've stepped right into a fairy tale, except you know you're in the heart of modern Italy. I snapped a photo in my pink tutu, of course - it would have been rude not to! 😉

Shopping was next on the agenda. What would a trip to Milan be without a bit of retail therapy? My dear friend Isabella knows all the best hidden shops. We snagged the most delightful shoes in a dusty little corner store near Piazza della Repubblica. And I finally found a pair of lavender opera gloves that perfectly match my lilac tutu! It’s a total fairytale combination.

But it's not all about glamorous tutus and fancy shopping sprees, you know. This trip is also about immersing myself in Milan's incredible culture. Yesterday I wandered through the Sempione Park, watching the local kids playing football, enjoying the sun, and feeling the energy of the city pulsate through my very being! There's just something so alive and vibrant about Milan, a sort of effervescence.

Later this afternoon, I'm meeting up with some of my fellow dancers for a little "pink-tutu" fashion photo shoot. Imagine - a dozen girls, all twirling in various shades of pink, laughter filling the air, and Milan as our backdrop. It’s going to be magical.

And speaking of magical, I have the most delightful thing planned for tonight! You see, there's this wonderful little jazz bar in the city center, a secret little gem, known for its live music and friendly atmosphere. And, you guessed it, there will be a performance from a talented young Italian ballet troupe called the 'Fiori di Milano.' You can bet I'll be in my best pink tutu, taking notes on their dance moves and soaking in the whole vibe.

Life in Milan has a different pace to Derby. It’s busy, fast, exciting, yet so much more relaxed and accepting. This week alone I’ve been approached by strangers asking me about my pink tutus! It’s great, it's almost like they're all playing their part in my mission: to get everyone wearing pink tutus! The world needs more sparkle, more laughter, more dancing. And that's exactly what I'm hoping to bring with me, one pink tutu at a time.

I'm so grateful to be sharing this journey with all of you. Until next week, don’t forget to twirl and always believe in the magic of a pink tutu!

Emma's Favourites from Milan:

  • The Duomo: You just can't leave Milan without seeing this awe-inspiring cathedral.
  • The Teatro alla Scala: Home to world-class ballet and opera, it's a must-see for any lover of the arts.
  • The Sempione Park: This beautiful park is a welcome escape from the city buzz. It's the perfect place for a stroll or a picnic.
  • Isabella's Secret Shopping Street: I'm sworn to secrecy about this little hidden alley of vintage boutiques! Trust me, you'll want to find it.
  • The Fiori di Milano Jazz Bar: It’s a tiny bar with huge talent - the perfect place for a jazz evening with a touch of ballet.

Until next week!

Ciao Bella!
