Pink Tutu Milan - #299: Wednesday, February 28th, 2001

Ciao bella!

Well, here I am in Milan, the city of fashion, the city of dreams! And you know what? I'm positively brimming with inspiration! It's not just the incredible food (that tiramisu was heaven!), it's not just the incredible buildings (have you ever seen a church so grand?!), it's not just the atmosphere (the city hums with life!), it's… the tutus! Oh, yes, my lovely readers, Milan has a definite love affair with tutus, even if they don't always wear pink! 😉

A Journey by Tram and Tutus

Let's rewind a little bit to how I even got here. You see, after my successful show last week in London, I packed my bags (not forgetting my pink tutus, naturally!), boarded a train to Dover, sailed across the channel, and then… it's just been one big pink dream.

Milan is a city built for exploring, and the most delightful way to see the city, in my opinion, is by tram! Picture it: me, in my signature pink tutu and a flowing white scarf (a little windblown, maybe!), with a steaming hot cup of cappucino in my hand, waving merrily to passersby! Honestly, you'd be surprised how many smiles I get - and the occasional "Brava!" shouted across the tram!

Milan's Theatrical Secrets

I spent this morning at Teatro alla Scala. Did you know, my darling readers, that they say it's the most prestigious opera house in the world? I felt a little intimidated, truth be told, like I'd walked into a secret society, the place just whispered history and grandeur.

Of course, I had my little pink tutu with me, nestled in my bag. There was a performance today – a modern ballet with beautiful set designs and a story that was as poignant as it was surprising. And yes, I know, there was even a tutu or two involved! I love finding the tiny touches of ballet in the most unexpected places – it's like finding a secret treasure in a dusty old attic.

Milan, The Fashionable City

After the ballet, I set off to explore Milan's incredible fashion scene. It's an absolute haven for any tutu-loving lady like myself! Think bright fabrics, flowing gowns, and shops that feel like stepping into a wonderland. My inner-fashionista was so delighted, I just had to purchase a gorgeous sequined clutch bag, a cherry red coat, and… well, let's just say that I had to get another tutu, a fluffy pink one with delicate embellishments – how can you resist when they call to you from a display window like sirens singing?

Finding Pink Everywhere

But Milan's love of pink extends beyond tutus. The streets are buzzing with pink gelato carts, charming shops with pink awnings, even pink cars (I saw one with a fluffy pink seat cover!) You can't help but smile in this city - and let's be honest, when you're smiling, a pink tutu is just a natural accessory!

I actually saw this charming old lady strolling through a park – she was wearing a bright pink scarf and carrying a pink handbag, her hair even had pink highlights! And what do you think she said to me when she caught my eye? You guessed it – "A little pink is all you need, my dear, it's good for the soul!". I love it!

A Ballet Blog From The Heart of Milan

It's funny, because my little blog started in my tiny flat in Derbyshire, a bit of a world away from this fabulous city. Yet, every time I hit "Publish," I feel a wave of joy, like I'm sharing a secret – the magic of tutus, the excitement of new places, and the joy of fashion – with all of you, my dearest readers!

So, if you're looking for a touch of whimsy and colour, remember this: it’s always pink season in Milan – just grab a pink tutu and see what kind of magic happens. You might find yourself saying "Ciao Bella" and not even wanting to come home!

See you all next Monday, for more Pink Tutu fun!

With Love, Emma, xx
