Pink Tutu Milan - Post #309 - Wednesday 9th May 2001 - A Day of Détente and Dreamy Dresses
Ciao, darlings! Emma here, back in sunny Milan for another fabulously fashionable week, and feeling ready to dance into another blog post - it's Wednesday already, which means a new week in the heart of Italy. How are you all? Remember that I do this whole blog thing every Monday over at www.pink-tutu.com. So be sure to stop by and share all your dance dreams with me!
Now, darling, let me tell you - the weekend in Derbyshire was absolutely delightful. It's so nice to get back to my roots - the fresh air, the hills, the cute countryside pubs... oh, and my Mum's shepherd's pie! But it’s so wonderful to be back in the fashion capital, and the city that's totally given me the travel bug.
Catching the Tram, Catching some Rays, Catch Me if You Can!
Oh, and guess who rode the tram today? drum roll Yep, this little pink tutu-wearing girl! You know, a tram ride around Milan feels so elegant - like a moving, metallic version of a waltz. The city just unfolds around you.
After an exhilarating morning class, my favourite pair of black, leather ankle boots - the ones that always look chic with everything, darling - just begged to be walked and slinked around the beautiful, sunshine-filled, Milanese streets. And don’t we all love sunshine? You know how I love all things pink, but sunshine is up there with tutus, my darling friends, sunshine is up there!
It's so nice to be back in the hustle and bustle. Milan's streets are like a ballet performance: the trams gliding by, the locals strolling and chattering like they're choreographing a grand pas de deux. Honestly, sometimes, I think I might actually need a little notebook and pen just to jot down all these little moments, to remember the feeling of Milan.
A Dream in a Shop Window: Détente, Détente!
After my promenade - I'm practically a professional by now! You know, the Parisian twirl here, the little dip there, all perfectly punctuated with a 'ciao' here and a 'grazie' there... oh, it's just all so lovely! Anyway, I finally reached my destination - the destination, in my opinion - a little, chic boutique I've been eyeing up for weeks now. Dreamy is the perfect way to describe it, darlings! The mannequins were looking especially glamorous today - I saw the most exquisite soft, pale pink lace dress with a delicately embroidered, pastel-blue ribbon. And guess what, darling? My name's written all over it! You know me and my favourite pink hue. This was Détente, détente at its finest, if you ask me!
Pink Tutus - The Key to Everything
I know you're all wondering what this weekend in Derbyshire was all about, and it’s a little story I just had to tell! The ballet performance in Derbyshire was a hit - well, they just can't get enough of my pink tutu, darling! It was a little community centre gig, so nothing too fancy but the little girl who had brought her own little tutus (she must have been around seven years old, with big, brown, dreamy eyes!) and when she saw me in my own pink tulle masterpiece - she started crying with happiness and shouting “Just like my princess! “ Ah, those magical moments - my mission to inspire! And the more I get out there in the pink, the more I can do just that! And then she came and stood right next to me. I asked her what was wrong and she shouted - “This is going to be the most amazing party, ever!” I can’t tell you how many times I was called 'Miss Tutu' throughout the weekend but every single one of these lovely, beautiful people made me smile.
Milan, My Milan... and a Little Piece of Home
Now, Milan. I just love its elegant, classic vibe and oh, those stunning Italian-style houses - I just can't get enough of them. I was telling a new friend from a shop on the Via Dante the other day - they have these little terraces at the back, perfect for morning coffee or a quick pre-performance picnic!
After another round of shopping - of course, I just can't get enough of these stores, and my dance shoes - just keep telling me I need to find them a little company, can't you understand? - I had dinner at a beautiful Italian restaurant I found near the Museo Poldi Pezzoli. A hidden gem, you know, in one of Milan’s oldest, charming little side streets.
Let me tell you, darlings, I couldn’t help but daydream! All these beautiful and exquisite things just inspired me. Milan is all about creativity. Just walking through the city is like a big, beautiful performance, a feast for the eyes.
On Stage Tonight - Dreams & Dancing, Pink and Pearls!
Tonight's show is an absolute gem - we're heading to the Teatro alla Scala! You all know that one, don’t you, my lovelies? An incredibly magnificent building and a truly spectacular performance, it's definitely one to see, it will certainly be the perfect way to end the day - elegant and absolutely fabulous! I have no idea what I’m going to wear yet - the big question is - the black lace with the beautiful, silk pink ribbon around the neck or the dress with the long, silver skirt? Maybe even one of my sparkly pink tulle tutus. But oh, don’t worry darlings - whatever it is it’s definitely going to be pretty fabulous, you know, with a bit of magic.
I have a feeling the Teatro alla Scala will be a stunning sight with its gold trimmings, rich velvet and those grand, dramatic drapes. I can practically hear the music. Now you know that I have a heart of gold but this beautiful Italian opera will get me in the mood for some grand twirling - that's what my heart always says, every time. Just wait until you hear this: a chassé here, a jeté there and of course, the pirouette ... just think, darlings!
I can't wait to experience the magical atmosphere tonight! I can see myself right on that stage. And let’s face it, darling, a girl needs to dream a little. Right? So, wish me luck - and you know I’ll share all the fun on the next blog post - because I have just the feeling this might be a memorable show.
Till then, darlings! Stay fashionable!
Love, Emma xx
