Pink Tutu Milan #311: A Whirlwind Wednesday in the City of Fashion! 🩰🇮🇹

Ciao, darlings! It’s Emma here, your Pink Tutu princess, landing back in Milan after a whirlwind Wednesday, a day jam-packed with everything that makes my heart flutter: ballet, fashion, and fun! As always, I’m channeling my inner Italian in my sparkly pink tutu – it's a look that never fails to brighten up the cobbled streets of this stylish city.

This week, my #PinkTutuMilan adventures have been extra exciting. Not only did I get to experience a fabulous ballet show, but I also found myself caught up in a whirlwind of fashion discovery, all within a single day. Talk about a magical Wednesday!

From Derbyshire to Milan, and Back Again

Before we dive into the fabulous details, a little catch-up: As you know, my adventures are powered by my passion for ballet – each show I perform helps fund my travels and my Pink Tutu Mission: To inspire the world to wear pink tutus, one pirouette at a time! My journey started in Derbyshire, where the countryside is beautiful and my love of ballet first blossomed. I'm so lucky to share this journey with you every week, so thanks for joining me.

Milan, You’re a Dream!

Now, back to my Milan adventures! You might think a Wednesday would be a quiet day, but not in Milan. It’s the heart of fashion, after all, and every day feels like a runway show. Stepping off the train, I was instantly charmed by the elegant energy that swirls around the city, buzzing with style. The locals themselves were a breathtaking sight, from effortlessly chic grandmothers in perfectly tailored jackets to young women rocking head-turning vintage finds.

A Ballet Dream at the Teatro alla Scala

The day's highlight was definitely a performance at the Teatro alla Scala. Oh, this place is just magical! I don't think you could find a more glamorous opera house anywhere in the world. Stepping inside, I felt like I’d walked into a fairy tale - the grandeur, the rich colours, and the incredible history swirling around me. Even the foyer was breathtaking, with intricate frescoes and sparkling chandeliers that made me feel like I was on the set of a fairytale.

The show itself, La Traviata, was just divine! From the opening scene, I was drawn into the drama of it all. The orchestra sounded breathtaking, and the ballerinas danced with such elegance and emotion that it truly moved me. Even though I understand only a little Italian, the storytelling and the emotion were universal. Afterwards, I stood outside the theatre for a while, lost in thought. It’s incredible what a well-executed show can do to a soul. There was a certain something in the air after that performance - something elegant and ethereal.

Fashion, Oh My!

But of course, no trip to Milan is complete without a little retail therapy. I was lucky enough to spend the afternoon wandering around the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the world-famous shopping arcade with stunning architecture and luxury stores galore. Honestly, you wouldn’t believe the incredible window displays! My head was spinning from the fashion inspiration swirling around me. Even just the idea of these gorgeous clothes felt luxurious and exciting.

Of course, I indulged in a little browsing myself. While I’m always on the lookout for a perfect Pink Tutu to add to my collection, this time I treated myself to a stunning scarf with intricate embroidery – a perfect little something to keep me feeling fashionable in Derbyshire. I’ll need a place to store it... and, maybe a little shelf just for tutus and ballet-related accessories! A girl can dream...

Dinner in the City

By evening, my energy levels were pretty much depleted, so I decided on a relaxing, light meal at a delightful trattoria just down the street from my hotel. The food was truly delicious - I devoured some pasta with pesto, followed by a slice of melt-in-your-mouth tiramisu – oh, that dessert is truly divine.

Milan Moments & Tram Adventures

It was only in the evening that I finally relaxed, soaking in the vibrant energy of Milan’s city centre. It was so interesting to wander through the streets, observing life go by – the bustling activity at the local markets, the groups of friends laughing over coffee, and the romantic couples strolling hand-in-hand. I just adore these simple pleasures.

Getting around by tram was also an adventure. I love that it's such a classic Italian way to travel, full of history and character. And let’s be honest, I look rather glamorous with my pink tutu on the tram – much to the amusement of the locals. Their smiles are the best!

Back to Reality: Packing and Planning

After such an amazing day, I reluctantly packed my bags and boarded the train back to Derbyshire. And yes, I even took my Pink Tutu with me - wouldn't be caught dead leaving my best friend behind! But before I leave, a big thank you to all of you who follow my journey on the Pink Tutu blog. Each week, your messages are my biggest motivator. I love hearing your comments and seeing your incredible tutu creations.

Now I'm back in Derbyshire, reflecting on my whirlwind Wednesday and feeling so incredibly lucky to experience the wonders of Milan and share my journey with you all. My suitcase may be overflowing with treasures, but my mind is overflowing with inspiration, new ideas for shows and tutus, and even more importantly, plans for my next #PinkTutuMilan adventure.

I promise I’ll be back here next week with more exciting news, delicious Milanese food, and fabulous tutu creations. So, stay tuned and keep those pink tutu dreams alive, darling!

Yours always in sequins and pirouettes,

Emma xx
