Pink Tutu Milan - #343 - Wednesday 2002-01-02

Ciao bella! Welcome to my Milan blog - the very place to find pink tutu inspiration, where the fashion is chic and the gelato is divine! This is your one-stop shop for all things pink and pirouette.

So, where am I? Today I'm basking in the beauty of Milan, the Italian fashion capital. I am always so incredibly excited when I get to a new city. And as usual, my trusty pink tutu is accompanying me, causing smiles and a sprinkle of sparkle wherever I go. After all, a little pink magic can brighten up even the dullest of days.

Last night, I had the pleasure of witnessing the most magnificent performance at Teatro alla Scala. A classic "Swan Lake" production - it had everything you could ask for; dazzling costumes, breath-taking dance sequences, and the most evocative music. Seeing the graceful dancers gliding across the stage, with their perfect timing and poise, fills me with such inspiration. They are such graceful, beautiful souls. Oh to move like that, my word. I do so enjoy ballet - I really wish I could watch performances every night, but they tend to be quite expensive, hence the tutu-filled performances that help keep me going, as that is what really pays the bills! My little pocket-money comes from street and theatre performances. Oh to be a rich tutu wearing ballerina - I'd never be leaving the house!!

It really doesn't surprise me, as Milan is a city brimming with creativity. Walking down the streets, you can almost feel the pulse of the artistic energy that pervades the air. And let's not forget the fantastic array of designer shops and boutiques - I haven't seen so many shoes in all my life! Each shop is filled with stylish displays of luxurious handbags, flowing dresses, and of course, my favourite, glittering accessories. I would happily spend hours simply admiring the creativity, and sometimes a few hours (or days!) on my bank cards doing some retail therapy. I could easily spend my whole time in Milan just shopping for fabulous new outfits, but thankfully my tutu comes with a little more than a touch of magic, so as I say, I have other responsibilities! But let’s not worry about that, the beauty of it all is the inspiration!

Today, however, it is not just the clothes and fashion that are calling me to indulge in Milan's splendor. Today is about the city's vibrant culture. I have plans to spend the morning wandering through the streets, soaking up the sun, exploring quaint alleyways, and admiring the charming architecture. You will find me stopping at small independent cafes and chatting to the locals (of course I’m using my limited Italian here), enjoying delicious cappuccino with panettone! I adore those coffee and pastry combinations. It just is such a classy combination - you have to have tried them at least once in your life - and then more! Of course I would then head to a bustling market to peruse artisan goods. Later, after I've enjoyed a relaxing lunch on a terrace with my sketchbook in hand (don’t forget it's in a fabulous bag of course - I’d be a fool to take it anywhere else - think pink of course! ), I have a little more shopping to do. There's an independent boutique I want to see that’s selling amazing shoes - you can’t tell I love my footwear!

Before you know it, it will be time for a glamorous ballet performance in the evening, one that has already started to turn my mind to pinks, whites, and graceful turns! This will be at the Teatro Dal Verme - It’s known for its lavish beauty and incredible acoustics! And as the final curtain falls, my heart will overflow with an exhilarating sense of awe, and the magical world of dance. That's when I really get into the pink-tutu spirit and get back to writing in my blog in a little coffee shop tucked away from the hustle and bustle! Then of course it's straight to the train for my journey home. Sometimes I think the journeys can be just as inspiring, it allows me time to reflect on all that I have taken in - which is of course usually lots. There is always time for reflection, on my journey! That is of course how I'm heading back to my beloved Derbyshire - after all there’s lots of work to be done in my lovely studio!! It’s a bit more low key compared to this lovely city - that is for sure!! I often head to local ballet class and practice my moves - as there is nothing better for preparing me for the big events that lie ahead - as you all know! The thought of being in the studio fills me with so much joy, there is so much I want to achieve!

It’s almost time for bed now. Until next time, I hope you are inspired to add some pink to your own life. Remember, wearing a tutu is not just about dancing, it's about embracing life's joys with a twinkle in your eye! After all, what's life without a little bit of whimsy?
