Pink Tutu Milan: #349 - Wednesday 13th February, 2002

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma here, fresh from a delightful morning at the Teatro alla Scala and already buzzing with excitement for my Milan adventures today!

The air is crisp this morning, a delicious nip in the air that just screams "Milano!" I'm wearing my most beautiful pink tutu - it's a new one, adorned with tiny little bows all the way down, each one shimmering in the sunshine that's peeping through the clouds. Of course, I couldn't resist matching my look with a pink beret, complete with a feather – pink, naturally!

I absolutely adore being in Milan. It's like stepping into a magazine, all sleek buildings, chic cafes, and effortlessly elegant people. Today is going to be one of those days where I explore everything that makes this city so unique, so get comfy, grab a cup of tea (or a prosecco, if you prefer!), and join me for my Italian adventure.

Teatro alla Scala - A morning of Ballet Bliss

As always, my morning began at the Teatro alla Scala, my personal haven of dance and magic. Today's show was The Sleeping Beauty, a timeless classic. It was a performance full of breathtaking choreography, expressive movement, and graceful storytelling. And let's not forget those magnificent costumes! Just a dazzling spectacle from beginning to end.

The thing I love most about the Teatro alla Scala is its history. It feels alive with the whispers of great dancers and musicians who have graced its stage. The plush red velvet seats and the beautifully carved ceilings seem to carry the stories of countless performances. As I sit there, wrapped in the beauty of the ballet, I feel like I'm part of a grand tradition, a magical world where imagination comes to life.

A Lunchtime Degustazione in Piazza Duomo

After the performance, I felt ready for some proper Milanese flavour. Where else to go but the most iconic square in the city? Piazza Duomo! I had lunch at this incredible restaurant I found down a hidden alleyway. I honestly can't even remember its name, but let's just say it was a true hidden gem. The risotto alla Milanese was divine, perfectly creamy and cooked to perfection. It just melted in my mouth!

While I was savouring my lunch, I enjoyed the incredible energy of the square. I took my time admiring the gothic Duomo with its intricate details. The square itself was bursting with life, from bustling vendors to chattering families. It’s always an absolute joy to soak in the energy of Milan!

Milan's Fascinating History – A Glimpse Into The Past

Now, after a lovely walk through the beautiful, grand gardens of the Parco Sempione, I'm feeling full of energy and ready to delve into Milan’s incredible history. My destination today is Castello Sforzesco, a massive castle that's steeped in centuries of history.

It’s a little piece of history preserved in the heart of modern Milan. Imagine, this fortress saw it all - battles, political dramas, even grand royal gatherings! The history within its walls is just awe-inspiring.

Today, it’s home to museums showcasing Milan's fascinating past, including art from various eras, and even historical furniture. As I stroll through the halls, I can't help but feel like I'm walking back in time, exploring stories whispered through the ages.

Fashion, Food & Tram Rides - A Bit of Afternoon Bliss

From the Castello Sforzesco, it was time for some retail therapy - you can’t come to Milan without a good dose of shopping! And for a dedicated pink tutu fan like myself, there's no better place than Corso Buenos Aires.

From designer boutiques to independent shops bursting with colours and styles, Corso Buenos Aires is an endless fashion playground. I had to buy a few things to refresh my wardrobe - a new pair of heels that will complement my tutus, and a delightful scarf with a lovely, floral design, perfect for when it gets chilly.

I confess, my wallet did cry a little bit at the sight of those gorgeous pink satin pumps - but trust me, it's a fashion emergency!

By now, I was feeling a bit peckish. I found a cosy little cafe on the way back. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and homemade pastries wafted through the air, pulling me in with irresistible charm. Of course, I had to treat myself to a decadent slice of chocolate cake, because, why not?

For my journey back to my hotel, I decided to try a different mode of transport - the tram! I just love those vintage tramways that still run through the city, a touch of elegance that reminds me of Paris.

There's just something magical about riding through Milan on a tram. It lets you see the city at a slower pace, to observe people going about their day. It was a wonderful chance to simply admire the cityscape, feeling the city’s heartbeat pulsate through the tram’s rhythmic sway.

Pink Tutu Street Show - A little dose of Milanese Magic

And now for my favorite part of the day: performing my signature street show for all the lovely people of Milan. Tonight, my performance will be in front of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, one of Milan's most iconic landmarks. It's a beautifully ornate glass-covered gallery with breathtaking views of the Duomo.

For tonight's performance, I've picked a special tutu - it's the most sparkly one in my entire collection, a delightful symphony of pink and silver, just waiting to shine under the streetlights. I can't wait to bring joy and smiles to everyone's faces. The cheers and applause of the audience are a wonderful reward.

Even more rewarding, is that magic feeling I get when I can inspire others to try on their own inner “pink tutu” - to let loose and celebrate their individuality, just like I do!

It's always wonderful to meet so many new faces, chat with the audience and answer all their questions about tutus, dance, and, of course, the secrets of pink! Who knows, I might just convince a few new friends to start wearing their own pink tutus too. That's my mission, after all. To spread the pink tutu love worldwide!

As my evening fades away and I return to the hotel, a sense of contentment fills my heart. There’s just something so magical about being in Milan, surrounded by beauty, art, and endless possibility.

Until next time, stay happy and embrace the power of your inner "pink tutu"!

Yours in pink,

Emma
