Pink Tutu Milan #355: Wednesday 27th March 2002 - Oh La La, Milan!

Buongiorno, my dearest pink tutu enthusiasts! Emma here, reporting live from the dazzling city of Milan, Italy! The cobbled streets are bathed in sunshine, the air hums with the rhythm of Vespa scooters, and my heart is simply overflowing with joy! I’ve been a bit of a travel-bum these past few weeks, jetting from one magical city to the next, following the whispers of ballet and the allure of beautiful fabrics. But today, Milan has finally stolen my heart, and I can already tell this is going to be a special week.

As you know, I’m a firm believer that pink is the colour of joy and that every single person on this planet should own at least one tutu (preferably in the most fabulous shade of pink). I even started a campaign for "Tutu Tuesday" at my old dance school back in Derbyshire, England, which was met with... mixed enthusiasm. (Let’s just say a tutu can make even the most stoic Yorkshire lass blush!) But here in Italy, the ladies are already embracing the pink tutu vibe! The Milanese women are seriously chic – their style is effortless and elegant, just like a dancer twirling on stage.

This week, Milan is playing host to a whole host of ballet delights. Tonight, I’m attending a performance at the iconic Teatro alla Scala, and you wouldn’t believe the outfit I’m planning to wear. I’m channeling my inner Italian princess with a bespoke pink tulle tutu, hand-stitched in Milan by a little atelier near the Duomo. The fabric is impossibly soft, the colour is a breathtaking shade of coral pink, and it twirls with the grace of a thousand ballerinas. The only thing missing is a tiara and a dashing Italian suitor (perhaps a handsome ballet dancer?) but I suppose I’ll just have to make do with my sparkly pink flats!

Yesterday, I took a blissful trip out to Lake Como. The azure waters, the snow-capped mountains, and the charming little villages are a real feast for the eyes. I felt like I'd stepped into a fairytale! And, you’ll never guess what… I spotted the most adorable vintage pink tutu in the window of a charming boutique in Bellagio. Needless to say, it was mine in a heartbeat! I think I’ll wear it with a crisp white linen blouse and a pair of sparkling gold sandals, perfectly channeling the ethereal beauty of the Italian landscape.

Before I forget, a big shout out to the fabulous ballet dancers in my latest show, "Giselle"! We were performing in Dresden last week, and they absolutely blew the audience away with their breathtaking technique and emotional expression. Seeing them on stage reminded me of the magic of dance and how it transcends language and connects us all on a deeper level.

I'm a big believer in indulging in life's simple pleasures, and I've discovered some absolute gems in Milan! There are so many wonderful cafes serving the most delicious pastries, gelaterias that are positively bursting with flavour, and quaint little boutiques brimming with exquisitely crafted pieces. Milan is truly a shopper’s paradise! Yesterday, I even found the perfect pair of vintage ballerina flats in a tiny, dusty shop tucked away on a side street. You’ll have to wait until next week to see them in full glory, though. I’ll share photos on my Instagram (@pinktutuema) if you're keen to see my newest pink-tutu fashion find!

I must confess, it wasn’t all about pink tutus and ballet performances last week. The journey to Dresden took me across the breathtaking landscape of Germany. I indulged in the German charm of small-town cafes, where the smell of freshly baked cakes lingered in the air. The local shops, bursting with colourful souvenirs, added to the atmosphere. And then, there was the moment I arrived in Dresden itself – the sight of the Elbe River winding its way through the city, the ornate bridges, and the looming Dresden Castle, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun – breathtaking! It’s moments like these that truly fuel my soul, filling me with joy and reminding me that life is an adventure, every single step of the way.

You know, sometimes I’m not sure where my travels will take me next. My life is like a beautifully choreographed dance, each step an unexpected twist, each city a unique movement. All I know is that my trusty pink tutu will be there, twirling with me through each and every step, spreading a little joy and a lot of pink magic wherever I go!

This is your friend and fellow tutu-enthusiast, Emma, signing off from Milan, Italy. Until next Monday, darlings! Remember to follow your dreams, stay beautiful, and don't be afraid to wear pink! Ciao for now!
