Pink Tutu Milan: Post 359 - Wednesday 24th April 2002 🌸🩰🇮🇹

Ciao bellas! It's Wednesday, which means it's Pink Tutu Milan time! 🩰💕 This week I'm bursting with excitement as I've finally landed in Milan, the fashion capital of the world, and believe me, this pink tutu is ready to dance its way through the city!

I love coming to Milan, it's such a vibrant, stylish and elegant city. As soon as you step off the train, you feel that electric energy of creativity and innovation, all wrapped up in exquisite Italian charm. Even the trams have a certain stylish flair here! It's definitely the perfect place for a tutu-loving fashionista like me.

You know, it's funny, my journey to Milan was all about pink! First, there was the fabulous train ride. I love the train journey, I get to enjoy the view and indulge in some good old fashioned reading! Plus, I just adore how my tutu swirls and flows with the rhythm of the train, just like in a dance. Speaking of dance, this week's ballet performance is already filling me with excitement. It's the iconic Giselle at Teatro alla Scala, the most beautiful theatre in all of Milan! Imagine me, in my perfect pink tutu, seated among the stylish Milanese, mesmerized by the sheer brilliance of the ballet. Just divine!

Anyway, as I was saying, the journey itself was so pink. I picked up a lovely rose pink handbag from the local market in Derbyshire (they've been making lovely rose coloured accessories in my home town recently). It was love at first sight! I thought, 'this would go so perfectly with a pink tutu for a Milan trip' – and you know what? I was right! And it even matched my sparkly pink phone case! It was such a dreamy coincidence – truly fate!

Then, the train journey itself… I picked a carriage that was adorned with cherry blossom posters for the Cherry Blossom Festival happening here in Milan later this week! The pink hues everywhere – perfect for a Pink Tutu Milan adventure, of course. I could almost feel my own pink tutu merging with all those stunning colours, all swirling and dancing along the tracks. And there was the perfect ending to this pink story! On arrival in Milan, I picked a charming, bright pink fiori (that means ‘flowers’ in Italian, did you know?! ) ice-cream from the little cafe opposite the station. It tasted just like pink bubblegum! 🍭

Right now, I'm staying in a lovely hotel near the Duomo (Milan's iconic cathedral), with the prettiest floral balcony, perfect for me to practise some ballet poses! Imagine - I can do my morning warm-ups with a stunning backdrop, with all those exquisite stained glass windows, it's like being inside a dance performance. It’s pretty much a ballerina's dream, you know! And guess what, the walls of the hotel are painted a pale pastel pink - almost exactly the shade of my latest tutu. You have to agree, it’s a good omen, right? And speaking of my tutus, the shops here are just heaven! 👗👛👠

Yesterday, I treated myself to a trip to Via Monte Napoleone - the street lined with glamorous designer boutiques. It felt like I'd been whisked onto a catwalk! Imagine me twirling in my pink tutu, trying on chic Italian creations... it's the dream life! And although my wallet may have taken a slight hit, I couldn't help but splurge on a stunning, silk-like, peach-coloured, satin ribbon to decorate my favourite pink tutu. It was just a touch of pure luxury that instantly elevates the tutu from beautiful to simply breathtaking! And of course, I also picked up a stylish, blush-pink tote bag to hold all my new treasures. It's so stylish – it looks perfectly chic against the backdrop of the beautiful Duomo, just picture it.

Now, this weekend I have some really exciting plans - not to mention some fun outfits to showcase. I'm going to explore the Quadrilatero d'Oro - the 'golden quadrilateral', where Milan’s luxury boutiques really shine. And trust me, I’m bringing my tutu along to sparkle! This area boasts an absolute explosion of pink hues from the gorgeous pink marble architecture, the pink pastel coloured shopfronts, even some buildings have touches of the famous Italian 'rosa antica' (old rose), and if you know anything about vintage pink you know this colour is everything! Imagine, it’s like the universe was designed for a ballerina in pink.

On Friday evening, I'm off to a fashion show for a fabulous designer, a super secret location, and this is where the tutu comes into its own! I'm wearing my newest creation – a spectacular rose-pink tulle tutu, it's absolutely stunning. And this is what you have to see – it features these amazing sequined motifs inspired by vintage Italian coins! So much sparkle, so much pink, it’s everything!

Of course, I’m always looking for inspiring designs to help my readers create their own perfect pink tutus, and Milan is truly the place to do just that. I found an extraordinary vintage clothing store yesterday and picked up some truly spectacular feathers for my next design - can’t wait to show you! Plus, I saw these lovely silk flowers with exquisite rose and salmon tones - they'll look perfect attached to my new tutu! I’m already planning my next Tutu Project.

Oh, I also want to talk about one of the things that's really been standing out to me about Milan…the gelato. 🍧 They say in Italy you should have a gelato every day and, you know, I can't disagree! My favourite so far is the one just off the Corso Buenos Aires, the flavour? It's Fragola - that means strawberry, and it’s pink! The best pink ice cream ever, no joke!

Next week, I plan on delving a little deeper into Milan’s famous Brera District, this part of the city is bursting with art, and it's one of the most enchanting places in Milan! I also hear that they have some delicious cafes that do rose flavoured pastries – divine! So many ideas and possibilities… This is where my little creative juices go into overdrive, with every pink tutu in the city my canvas.

Until then, remember my motto - a little bit of pink never hurt anyone!

Lots of love,

Emma x
