Pink Tutu Milan: Post #388 – Wednesday 13th November 2002

Ciao from Milan, my lovely tutu-loving friends! This is Emma, your pink-obsessed ballerina reporting live from the heart of Italian fashion and flair! Today marks a brand new adventure, and as you all know, a Wednesday means only one thing: Pink Tutu Milan!

Now, before we get to the nitty-gritty, let’s do a little tu-tu-tude check! Has everyone got their sparkliest smiles on? Your most vibrant pink outfits ready to go? Because let me tell you, Milan is overflowing with fabulousness, and we wouldn't want to be caught looking anything less than positively radiant, would we? 😉

Speaking of fabulousness, Milan is practically a pink-tutu lover's dream! The shops are absolutely brimming with designer darling tutus – feather boas, sequins, everything you could ever imagine! I almost didn't make it out of the Via Montenapoleone with just one new tutu – I had to restrain myself! After all, we have to be sensible about spending money on our beloved tutus, and leave room for some of Milan's most exquisite gelato, right? 🍦

As for how I made it to this sartorial wonderland? Well, it’s a ballet lover's secret – I performed last week at the Birmingham Royal Ballet, and thanks to the kindness of the audiences and the generosity of the patrons, I'm back on the road! Being a travelling ballet dancer means never really knowing where you’ll land next, and let me tell you, a Wednesday morning on the high-speed train hurtling towards Milan with a brand-new pink tutu by my side is the most glorious feeling!

Today, though, it wasn’t the train that stole the show, it was the tram! I hopped on to explore the city, and it’s a symphony of pink! The vibrant bougainvillea tumbling down old brick walls, the stunning sunsets reflecting in the terracotta rooftops, it's like being surrounded by a soft, fluffy, pink dream! And then there's the gelato! 🍨 Every single scoop seems to be dusted with magic, shimmering under the streetlights! Did I mention pink gelato? It exists, and it’s everything you ever hoped for.

And while we’re on the topic of dreamy delights, the Teatro alla Scala awaits! You can’t go to Milan and not see a performance at La Scala! It's an experience that sends shivers down your spine – from the velvet seats to the ornate ceiling, everything about this opera house exudes sheer artistry. It’s going to be pure enchantment – a show with a cast full of dazzling dancers and costumes that could easily rival those found on my tutu shelf!

Of course, with a city like Milan, it's not just the big name shows that are enchanting. This week, I saw a phenomenal production by the Scuola di Ballo di Milano, at a smaller venue. It’s incredible to see how passion for the art form thrives at every level – a testament to Italy's vibrant ballet community. It makes me want to get back to the studio, polish up those pirouettes and get back to the dance floor.

As we wind down, remember this, darling friends – it's not just about pink tutus or fabulous costumes, it’s about embracing that sparkling magic in life – be it a breathtaking sunset or a delicious scoop of gelato. The pink tutu may be the accessory, but the spirit of dance lives in the heart, the rhythm flows through your soul. So get out there, darling, put your brightest smiles on, find your favourite shade of pink and make some magic happen!

Till next time, stay sparkly!

P.S. Did I tell you about the beautiful silk flower shop I stumbled across today? The proprietor even had a whole collection of pink ribbons in every imaginable shade! You know where I’ll be spending tomorrow, right? 😉
