Pink Tutu Milan #417: Ciao Bella, from Milan!

Buongiorno, darlings! It’s your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, back from a whirlwind week in Milan. This glorious city of fashion and glamour is simply bursting with inspiration!

As I mentioned last week, this was always going to be a very special trip. My last performance in Derbyshire (can you believe I was performing in a tiny little hall!) brought in just enough for my flight and a few days at the fabulous Hotel Diana in the heart of Milan. Oh my goodness, the Italian sense of style really is unparalleled!

The minute I arrived at the airport, the buzz of this city was electric. Even the taxi driver seemed to be oozing sophistication as he weaved through the streets. The energy, the style, the vibrancy - it was truly overwhelming!

Pink Paradise!

I just had to share my finds from my first day of shopping. I simply couldn't resist this gorgeous, fluffy, pink cardigan! It has delicate little white lace around the edges and just the cutest button detailing. It perfectly complements the tulle pink skirt I found, so floaty and ethereal. I immediately envisioned myself swirling on stage, but then decided this outfit needed a touch of edgy sophistication. I picked up a leather biker jacket, its black edges perfectly framing the soft pink. Now that is a look I'm ready to rock in the streets of Milan!

And speaking of streets... Milan is a tram lover's dream! The tram system here is divine, so easy to navigate and so affordable. It’s a perfect way to soak up the sights, whizzing past grand buildings and chic boutiques, a total sensory overload in the best way possible! I’m already sketching a little ballet piece for the city – a graceful blend of tram rhythms and Milanese style, naturally set to a classic Italian soundtrack.

Milanese Delights

The first stop on my Milanese escapade? The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a stunning shopping arcade. The architecture here is incredible! You'd think you've been transported back in time. And, oh my goodness, the shops! From Versace to Prada to Armani, I could spend days browsing through these exquisite displays. Even just walking through the Galleria, with its dazzling glass dome and marble floors, is a sight to behold!

Later, a pit stop at Pasticceria Marchesi for some divine Italian pastries! It’s one of those cafes that could belong in a fairytale, and those buttery pastries were heaven! I even indulged in a scoop of strawberry gelato... because a little pink treat is never a bad thing!

La Scala, Oh La Scala!

Of course, no visit to Milan is complete without seeing a show at La Scala Opera House. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Imagine me in a soft, pale pink tulle skirt (you know I was perfectly dressed!), feeling the excitement building as the orchestra tuned up. They played Puccini’s 'La Bohème', and it was pure magic. The costumes, the sets, the emotion - sigh! It really took my breath away.

Milan Ballet Bound

After that exhilarating evening, I needed to hit the dance studio. So I took a ballet class in the city. I have to say, these Milanese dancers are fierce! I learnt so many beautiful techniques – new leaps, graceful port de bras – and managed to work up a good sweat. I know that this class will have a profound impact on my dancing – I feel stronger, more flexible and I already have a few ideas for incorporating those new moves into my repertoire.

Later that evening, I found a charming little bar near the cathedral, the Basilica di Sant'Ambrogio. They were playing gorgeous traditional Italian music and everyone seemed to be enjoying a leisurely meal. I, of course, had the perfect excuse for another pink drink – a strawberry Bellini with a pink straw! What can I say? I'm a little bit obsessed!

The Milan Ballet Ballet

Speaking of ballet, tomorrow's agenda? I'm super excited for the 'Milan Ballet' performance. I managed to secure a ticket, and it’s meant to be absolutely incredible. It's a show by the 'Balletto di Milano' company and this time it's "La Bayadère," an exquisite ballet that mixes Eastern influences and traditional choreography. I can’t wait! The pink tutu I have planned for this evening? A luxurious silk and lace one that I found in a vintage shop – a rare, exquisite find, the perfect statement piece!

Milan’s Fashion Force

Even when I’m not performing myself, watching other dancers always ignites a spark in me. It's almost a subconscious way of observing new moves, learning new steps, and letting their artistry fuel my own.

And speaking of inspiring artistry, you know I can't leave Milan without adding to my wardrobe, right? I had a fabulous day exploring the Quadrilatero d'Oro (the "Golden Quadrilateral" as it's known), a designer district bursting with the most stylish fashion houses in the world. Think Prada, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana – a girl can only dream! And speaking of dreams, my dream dress was there, in a stunning window display at the Gentilini boutique. It was a silky, pink, almost blush-colored dress, the perfect flowy silhouette – I simply have to have it! It will be a statement piece on stage – a symbol of all things graceful and fabulous! You've never seen pink done quite like this!

Life's a Stage (and a Tram!)

Milan, with its enchanting blend of history and modernity, is proving to be the perfect backdrop for a dance enthusiast like me. From grand operas to ballet performances to stunning vintage stores, I am discovering inspiration around every corner. I can’t wait to share my next Milan adventure with you, my lovelies.

Keep shining and keep twirling, and I’ll catch you next week! Ciao Bella!
