Pink Tutu Milan #421: La Dolce Vita in Pink!

Buongiorno, darlings! It’s Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing ballerina, writing to you from the glorious city of Milan! I'm on a roll with this travel blogging lark - it’s just the best way to share my love of ballet and all things pink with the world, and frankly, who doesn’t love a good pink tutu adventure?

This week, I'm absolutely bursting with excitement because my little ballet heart is officially beating to the rhythm of Milan! I arrived yesterday, whizzing through the bustling streets in a stylish pink polka-dot vintage dress, my tulle skirt billowing in the warm Italian breeze. And you know what? This city feels like it was made for a pink-loving, tutu-wearing ballerina like me!

Trams, Tutùs & Trattorie

The tram ride from the station to my charming little hotel near the Duomo was such a treat – think cobbled streets, vibrant cafe terraces, and even a couple of handsome Italian gentlemen looking rather charmed by my ensemble!

I'm staying in the most darling little hotel – a tiny, family-run affair that’s filled with character and hidden nooks and crannies. My room is pink, of course – how could it be anything else? – with a gorgeous little balcony where I can sit with my morning cappuccino and watch the city wake up. It’s almost like living in a movie!

After I settled in, I set off for a stroll around the city. Milan truly is an architectural masterpiece – majestic cathedrals, grand squares, and historic buildings galore. It's hard not to feel inspired by such beauty!

Speaking of inspiration, I have to tell you about this amazing trattoria I stumbled upon for lunch. I opted for a delectable spaghetti with courgettes, cherry tomatoes, and a touch of chilli. The perfect lunch for a ballet-dancing queen like me!

Teatro Alla Scala - A Dream Come True

As luck would have it, I happened to arrive in Milan just in time for the opera season at the famous Teatro Alla Scala! I’m a HUGE opera fan, and it was such an amazing experience. It felt like I’d stepped back in time into a magical world of grandeur and opulent costumes.

Imagine: soaring ceilings, golden decorations, a huge stage, and even an incredible chandelier! Then there were the stunning voices! I’d been captivated from the very first note, and my eyes were practically glued to the incredible performances.

But the real highlight for me was witnessing the exquisite beauty of the ballet performances, the incredible athleticism and artistry on display was nothing short of inspiring. It had me twirling around my room the whole way home, dreaming of waltzing across that stage in my own fabulous pink tutu!

Ballet Shopping Paradise

Of course, I couldn't come to Milan without indulging in some serious fashion therapy! And I was certainly not disappointed. I have to say, this city has absolutely the BEST shopping in the world. Think luxury boutiques and independent stores bursting with stylish designs and colours. My personal favourite? An adorable vintage shop where I managed to find the most gorgeous pink and black floral-patterned vintage dress, perfect for a special ballet dinner.

It would be rude not to tell you all about the gorgeous ballerina shop I stumbled upon today. It was the kind of store every girl's dream is made of! A treasure trove of tutus, leotards, shoes, and all sorts of accessories for a budding ballerina! The walls were lined with racks upon racks of brightly coloured tulle – from classic pink to vibrant purple and turquoise! I actually ended up buying a brand new tulle skirt that’s as pink as my very soul. And, as you can imagine, it went straight on for a little whirl in the street.

I even managed to grab some pretty pastel-coloured ribbon for a future tutu DIY project, I can't wait to unleash my inner designer and create my very own ballet masterpiece. And, if you know me, you know that this creation is sure to feature pink in all its gloriousness!

Street-side Elegance

Milan is just brimming with elegant details everywhere you look, and it’s no surprise – it’s a city known for its fashion. There's such a cool, sophisticated vibe here, from the beautiful marble buildings to the incredible shop windows showcasing some of the most iconic Italian designers. Even the trams and buildings have that quintessential Italian grace!

I must say, though, nothing beats watching Milan's own unique street performers in action! The energy, the artistry, and the sheer exuberance they brought to the streets of Milan is quite remarkable. Their passion is so infectious, and you could tell they just love sharing their craft with everyone. There were dancers in beautiful, colourful outfits - lots of pink tutus, of course! – jugglers, singers, and even a few cheeky clowns, keeping the crowds entertained and making everyone smile. I could hardly tear myself away.

More Than Just Shopping

Don't get me wrong, though, Milan isn’t just about shopping and pretty buildings. The city boasts a vibrant culture, delicious food, and beautiful green spaces, too. The famous Piazza della Scala is where I had a wonderful lunch with a fellow ballet fan, talking about everything from the latest ballets we’ve seen to the best spots to find a gorgeous new pink tutu in the city!

Milan is a city that invites you to simply sit, soak up the atmosphere, and be enchanted. Whether it's the buzzing city streets, the peaceful squares, or the magnificent Teatro alla Scala, Milan always has something captivating to offer.

I must say, my darlings, I'm having the most fabulous time here in Milan! And you can be sure, it's only just the beginning. My week is going to be packed full of exciting adventures, like visiting the magnificent Sforza Castle – with its impressive gardens and rich history, – and exploring more hidden treasures in the charming and stylish Milanese districts.

And what would a trip to Milan be without trying those incredible cannoli? A little dolce vita in the form of a delicious pastry? I think so! Let’s be honest, we all need a little bit of sugar to fuel our passion for life, ballet, and of course, tutus!

You know I couldn't possibly resist whipping up my very own pink cannoli masterpiece - perfect for a little pre-ballet performance fuel! The filling was as pink as my heart!

But the best part? It’s time for another ballet performance. I'm feeling quite inspired by all the glamour and elegance of Milan. This week I'm dancing “Giselle” in a fabulous vintage pink tutu! So be sure to check my social media pages, darling. It’s going to be a show stopper!

And until next Monday, my dearest readers, stay inspired and always keep that pink tutu handy!

Ciao!

Emma xx
