Pink Tutu Milan - Post #467: Wednesday 2004-05-19

Ciao bella! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood ballerina in pink. I’m back with another installment from Milan, where the sun is shining and the trams are buzzing! You wouldn't believe the adventure I've been having in this fabulous city. I'm on a mission, you see, to share my love for all things pink and twirly with the world, and let's face it, what better way to do that than from the fashion capital of Italy itself?

I've already discovered a whole bunch of hidden gem shops brimming with sparkly shoes, elegant fabrics, and oh-so-pretty headbands. My suitcase is getting a little overloaded, but I have to confess – I can’t resist a bit of retail therapy! A girl's got to look her best when she’s traipsing around Milan, wouldn’t you agree? Plus, finding the perfect pink tutu is a priority! I’ve got my eyes on a gorgeous silk creation that’s the same shade of pink as a flamingo in the morning sunlight – talk about a dream come true!

But my time in Milan isn’t all about shopping and shoe-hunting. (Though it might feel like it!) The other day I stumbled upon the most enchanting ballet performance at Teatro alla Scala. The dancers were absolutely magnificent! I felt every single beat of the music in my toes. And their tutus – oh, their tutus were just to die for! My pink heart swelled with pure joy, I tell you. You just can’t beat the feeling of being swept away by the beauty and power of dance.

I have a confession to make - after seeing those stunning costumes, I think my own pink tutu collection needs a little upgrade! It seems I'm already scheming up new design ideas, taking inspiration from the grace and elegance of those professionals. But shhh, don’t tell anyone I said that – my little secret, my darling readers.

Anyway, let me take you back to my Wednesday adventures, shall we? It was the kind of day that started with sunshine, laughter, and an oversized cappuccino. I decided to treat myself to breakfast at a tiny little cafe near my hotel. The aroma of freshly baked croissants and steaming coffee was enough to make you believe you were in a Parisian bistro. I opted for a pain au chocolat, a creamy cappuccino, and a generous helping of gossip from my favourite local magazine. I wouldn’t say this magazine is terribly fashionable (in fact, some of the clothes featured would make me shudder, honestly!). But the local news and gossip were irresistible – and just the right touch of Italian spice to kick off the morning.

Afterwards, I wandered through the narrow, winding streets, taking in the sights and sounds of the city. I discovered a little street market brimming with treasures. I managed to bag myself a gorgeous embroidered shawl in the most beautiful shade of peach – a lovely accent to my usual pink ensemble! And, you know, I just can’t resist a bit of a haggle - my Derbyshire roots do tend to creep in. A friendly exchange of smiles and 'ciao, bellas' later, and the shawl was mine!

The highlight of the day had to be the ballet class. I decided to venture into a hidden studio tucked away in a backstreet just off the Piazza della Scala. It was such a welcome surprise. The class itself was truly fantastic – a group of aspiring ballerinas all dedicated to the art of ballet, and their teacher was simply phenomenal!

He was a handsome man with a powerful presence – clearly a veteran of the dance world, you know? It’s always so much fun to learn new techniques and styles. We did a bit of everything - barre work, center work, leaps, and some pirouettes that would have made me dizzy if I wasn’t a ballet buff. But let's face it, I'm not as young as I used to be – no time for wobbly legs and out-of-breath panting!

After class, I met the other dancers for a drink at the local café – just around the corner from the studio. The locals kept calling it "Il Caffè," and everyone agreed it had the most incredible pasta salad. And while I adore my usual plate of spaghetti with meatballs, it’s a true pleasure to explore new flavour combinations – not to mention all the interesting characters you encounter along the way. It was fun exchanging tips with my new fellow ballerinas. They were such sweet girls, you wouldn’t believe how excited they were when I showed them my latest pink tutu (the one I’d purchased from that amazing shop off Via della Spiga – do go if you have a spare minute! ). The Italian girls are crazy about their fashion and it seemed they were all impressed. My little pink heart nearly exploded with joy – they’ve actually taken me under their wing! They promised to take me to all the best little hidden boutiques for a true Milanese shopping spree next week. And of course, it wouldn't be Milan without some gelato afterwards – oh yes, my taste buds are ready for this one!

This city has so much to offer: art galleries, designer boutiques, and of course, all those stunning, magnificent piazzas. As you know, my darling readers, I never shy away from a bit of exploration. But it seems my beloved pink tutu is getting a little heavier after my day at the market – so, for the remainder of the afternoon, I'm planning to take it easy, soak up the sunshine from a corner table at the Caffé, and, yes, of course, I'll be scribbling down all these new exciting travel tips, for my beloved readers - because my darling friends, that's the fun part, isn't it? Sharing every delightful detail of this gorgeous journey with you all!

And the journey doesn’t end there, of course. There's more to see and explore! Oh, Milan is full of inspiring energy. The locals, the language, the history – and most importantly, those magnificent, gorgeous Italian fashions – they’ve all sparked my creativity like nothing before. My little pink heart just bursts with excitement when I imagine what next week will bring!

For now, my darling readers, I’ll leave you to daydream about pink tutus and imagine those delicious, freshly made Italian pastries – I’m thinking of another stop at "Il Caffè" this afternoon. Who knows what culinary adventures will await! Until next Monday – be kind to yourself, twirl a little bit (maybe in a pink tutu!), and always remember – the world is a beautiful place, especially if you view it through rose-tinted spectacles, like this one does!

Ciao, bella!

This Week’s Pick: A Slice of Fashion

This week, let's talk about pink tutus! Yes, you guessed it! It's my all-time favourite topic! While we all dream of twirling on stage like ballerinas, even just a touch of pink in our wardrobe can inject a dose of sparkle and femininity. And what better way to embrace that feeling than with a little pink tutu?

Here's the deal, you don't have to be a ballet professional to rock a tutu – in fact, wearing it in everyday life is all the rage now. Just a tiny hint of pink can transform even the simplest outfits – imagine adding a pink tulle scarf to a simple, sleek outfit or perhaps a vibrant pink belt. I’m already eyeing a blush-pink sequined tutu top to pair with a black leather skirt for my next night out. So, my lovely readers, get ready to embrace your inner ballerina! Embrace your unique style. Let your confidence and your femininity shine. You do you, my darling readers, but make sure you wear a little pink tutu. That’s my motto, my friends!

You can see this week's pick and much more by visiting my website: www.pink-tutu.com. You'll find a world of pink, fashion, ballet and travel right there on the homepage. Let's stay in touch!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, there’s a delicious cannoli with my name on it - I do love to end my week on a sweet note. Ciao bella!
