Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 2004-07-14 - Post #475

Ciao bellas! It's Wednesday in Milan and my tutu is positively twirling with excitement! This is post number 475 of my Milan adventures, and it's going to be a doozy - full of fabulous fashion finds, enchanting ballet, and loads of lovely pink!

Milan is such a city for a ballerina! The energy here is so vibrant, and you feel the passion for art and performance around every corner. As I hop off the tram this morning, a street performer in a bright orange suit starts to play a violin, and I swear I saw a pair of tap shoes peeking out from under his coat. I’m sure it’s a sign - today is all about artistic expression, and what could be better than a pink tutu and a touch of street-side entertainment!

Speaking of street-side, have I told you about the shops on Via della Spiga? Heaven! I spent the morning dodging well-dressed gentlemen in crisp linen suits and practically fainting at the gorgeous shoes, handbags, and dresses in every colour of the rainbow. Of course, the first shop I went into was the one that had the most beautiful pink - a soft blush, like the inside of a rose petal, oh it was divine! I have a secret obsession with shoes and bags - it’s the ballet dancer in me! Every new performance demands a different pair of dancing shoes, and so it is with shoes, it seems!

You'll be delighted to hear I nabbed a pair of ballet flats the most beautiful baby pink colour, with little silk roses decorating the toes - swoon! The perfect accessory for the dress I found a few stores down - a cream number with tiny pink dots, the most wonderful way to be demure but still make a pink statement. If there was ever an outfit made to wear to a ballet show, this was it!

My shopping trip has left me needing a little pick-me-up so, I’ve popped into my favourite trattoria just around the corner. Now, you all know my absolute weakness - it has to be the creamy pesto pasta with fresh, ripe tomatoes and Parmesan cheese. The chef, Paolo, remembers me now! Such a charming man. He gave me an extra spoonful of Parmesan, "for my lovely pink tutu!" he declared, winking with mischief. My favourite kind of service!

Of course, you'll all be keen to know what's happening on the ballet scene this week. Tonight's treat? La Scala! The legendary theatre! My friend Amelia and I will be seeing “Giselle.” The perfect choice for a pink-tutu-clad girl. I can already feel the swirling skirts and ethereal leaps! It’s going to be magic. I can't wait to soak in the atmosphere of the opera house.

Speaking of Amelia, she's the most talented seamstress, and she's creating a beautiful pink tutu just for me. It's going to have a tiered skirt and little silk roses all over it, just like my new shoes! You wouldn’t believe how long she's been working on it - it’s truly a labour of love. I'll be sure to snap some photos and post them on our Pink Tutu website - www.pink-tutu.com, because a Pink Tutu deserves to be seen!

Did you know I started this whole blog, this amazing pink-tutu adventure, because I simply wanted to encourage everyone to find a little magic in their day, even if it was just by putting on a pink tutu and dancing in the kitchen? Sometimes the little things make the biggest difference, and pink tutus, with their whimsy and fluffiness, can bring a touch of pure happiness into your day.

My life as a travelling ballerina is all about embracing these little joys. From finding that perfect pink dress to learning a new move at the ballet bar, it's all part of the wonderful dance of life. And I’m thrilled to have you all along for the ride!

Now, I need to start preparing for La Scala - it's going to be an evening of pure ballet bliss. And maybe, just maybe, a certain pink tutu will make an appearance on stage too. Wouldn't that be delightful?!

Until next time, ciao for now!

Emma xx

P.S. I'll be sure to post about the performance at La Scala, and all my latest fashion finds, next Monday! And, remember, keep dancing! xx
