Pink Tutu Milan: #488 - Wednesday 13th October 2004: A Day of Delicious Delight

Buongiorno, darling readers! It's Emma here, writing to you live from the vibrant heart of Milan! My heart is positively overflowing with the joy of a perfect day spent exploring the wonders of this fashion-forward city. Just imagine: the sun shining gloriously, my pinkest tutu swishing in the breeze, and the most heavenly gelato in the entire world. Is this what they call "La Dolce Vita?" If it is, sign me up for life!

Milan’s Glamour in a Pink Tutu

Ah, Milan! The energy here is intoxicating, it's a whirlwind of creativity, style, and endless deliciousness. This city makes you feel like a fairytale princess, except instead of waiting for a prince to save you, you’re creating your own magic. Today, that magic started with a ride on the tram. Imagine, my pink tulle trailing behind me as I journeyed through the heart of the city, taking in the breathtaking architecture and the buzzing streets. This is a city that pulsates with life and joy, it's impossible not to be swept up in the excitement.

After my delightful tram journey, I landed at the heart of Milan's fashion scene, ready to lose myself in the world of beautiful things. It’s the city where high-end fashion thrives, and oh, I've never felt so inspired! I spotted a window display at a boutique called "Malle" on Via della Spiga, it featured a vibrant, lime green dress - it screamed sunshine and summer. They are truly leading the way in sustainable fashion with their beautiful selection of contemporary designers.

Then, there were the shoes! Oh, the shoes! Each boutique I entered was a visual feast of heels, sandals, and flats. My feet haven’t stopped dreaming of a new pair of scarlet pumps I spotted at the legendary, multi-brand boutique “10 Corso Como”. But alas, my travel budget is for performances, not designer shoes - maybe next time! It's truly amazing to see so many talented designers showcase their creations on this street, a feast for the eyes and a true testament to Milan's creativity.

A Day of Delight: La Scala and La Sfogliatella

A good ballerina always needs to replenish her energy with sustenance, and today's delicious fuel of choice was a sfogliatella, a traditional Neapolitan pastry, filled with creamy ricotta and candied orange peel. I savoured every mouthful in a charming café called "Pasticceria Marchesi", their pastries were like tiny pieces of art. It’s a true treasure for lovers of artisan, traditional sweets. And yes, the "La Scala" in my headline refers to this bakery, not the famous opera house (that was part of a separate, magical day)!

The day culminated in a stunning performance at the renowned Teatro alla Scala - one of the most famous opera houses in the world! Oh, what a treat for the eyes and ears! I reveled in the exquisite music, the captivating artistry, and the sheer elegance of the dancers and the stage. It truly felt like magic!

The opera was the highlight of my day - but every moment felt like a brushstroke on the canvas of life, painting vibrant shades of joy. There’s something truly unique about this city. Maybe it’s the mix of traditional architecture and vibrant street art, the energy and spirit of its people, or perhaps it’s the tantalising mix of aromas and flavours. Regardless, I fell utterly in love with this dazzling Italian jewel.

A Bit About Myself

Speaking of falling in love, you may be wondering about the ballerina behind the Pink Tutu. I'm Emma, and I come from the picturesque Derbyshire countryside in England. But let me tell you, this pink tutu has travelled further than the Peak District - it's been with me all across Europe!

My obsession with ballet started from a young age. The grace, the beauty, the artistry – it took hold of my soul. From the tender age of six, I took to the stage, twirling and leaping my way to success, but I didn't stop there! This passion led me to explore the wider world of performing, from street theatre to captivating the crowds in beautiful theatres. I even dabbled in street ballet, dancing with fellow dancers under the dazzling lights of city streets!

My greatest joy? Performing. I adore sharing the beauty and power of ballet with audiences everywhere. That moment, under the spotlight, everything else melts away, it's just me and the music.

And so, to fund my love for the dance and to spread the joy, I perform, sharing my love of ballet in every corner of Europe. I hope that, somehow, this inspires other budding ballerinas (or anyone with a bit of whimsy) to embrace their own passions, whether that be fashion, dance, or anything else their hearts desire.

I am Emma, the ballerina with the Pink Tutu, a living testament to chasing dreams and celebrating life, one beautiful dance step at a time!
