Pink Tutu Milan #611 - Wednesday 2007-02-21: Pink Perfection in the City of Style!

Ciao, darlings! It's Emma here, reporting live from the fabulous city of Milan, where the pink tutu reigns supreme! I'm so thrilled to be sharing another week of adventures with you all on my little corner of the internet, www.pink-tutu.com.

This week, Milan has been utterly enchanting. The air is buzzing with fashion week energy, and the streets are overflowing with style inspiration. Everywhere you look, there's a new, exciting outfit to be discovered.

Of course, my first stop had to be a vintage boutique tucked away in the cobblestone backstreets of Brera. I discovered the most heavenly pink sequined jacket that screamed "prima ballerina!" And for a bargain, too! Who says you can't find fashion treasures on a budget? 😉

But let's talk ballet, shall we? This week, I was lucky enough to see the most amazing performance of La Bayadère at Teatro alla Scala. The grandeur of the opera house, the beautiful costumes, the dazzling choreography, it was pure magic. The dancers were all magnificent, but I was especially impressed by the principal ballerina - her artistry and grace were truly awe-inspiring. The whole experience just left me feeling absolutely exhilarated and ready to dance!

Speaking of dancing, my own ballet class was so much fun this week. My tutor, the lovely Silvia, is a true professional. She has such an elegant presence and incredible knowledge of the craft. It was a pleasure to be in her class, surrounded by such dedicated students. It's great to find fellow ballerinas who are as passionate about dance as I am, even if they don't always embrace the pink tutu with quite the same fervour!

After my class, I found myself at the Museo del Novecento, mesmerised by the works of the Italian futurists. Their bold and vibrant style really captured my imagination. It was as if their paintings were coming alive, exploding with colour and movement, like a ballet performance in itself!

Naturally, after a day of art, culture and movement, a little pampering was in order! I found a little gem of a cafe tucked away near the Duomo. They served the most decadent hot chocolate I've ever had. Oh, the richness of the melted chocolate, so warm and comforting on a chilly Milanese afternoon. It was the perfect way to end the day, and it got me thinking about all the lovely things I'd been able to experience here in Milan.

Travelling is an absolute joy, and it always seems like the best things happen when you least expect them. It's funny how a single performance can propel you across countries and continents, pushing you out of your comfort zone and into the heart of exciting new places. Who could have known that performing a ballet would lead me to the heart of Milan, sipping hot chocolate under the iconic Duomo?

But perhaps it's all part of a bigger picture, a delicate and interconnected web, where even the smallest actions can create ripples of change that spread across the globe. Who knows what adventure might be waiting just around the corner for us all, perhaps in the form of a captivating performance or a daring trip to the world's most stylish cities?

And, speaking of adventure, I'm feeling particularly excited about the upcoming weekend. My dear friend Francesca is joining me, and together we're planning a day trip to Lake Como. Can you even imagine a more picturesque location for a pink tutu photo shoot?! The clear, crystal water, the stunning mountain scenery, the historic villas... it's like a scene from a fairytale!

But don't worry, I won't just be snapping photos. We're going to explore the charming lakeside towns, have lunch at a cosy restaurant with stunning views of the lake, and maybe even go for a swim if the weather permits. It's all shaping up to be a perfect pink tutu escapade.

It’s really exciting to be here in Milan – everything just seems to feel a little bit more “Pink Tutu.” The people, the food, the architecture, it all feels elegant, stylish, and slightly playful, just like the perfect pink tutu!

Don’t forget to catch me again next Monday at www.pink-tutu.com. I’ll be telling you all about our adventures on Lake Como.

Until then, spread the pink tutu love, my darlings, and stay fashionable!

Ciao for now,

Emma xx

P.S. Did you know that 21 February was also National Pancake Day? How appropriate, given how pancake-thin and floaty a ballerina's tutu has to be! I wonder if the Italian Pancake Day tradition involves as many yummy topping options as the British one… (Hmm, perhaps a pancake breakfast topped with pink chocolate would be just the thing for a Friday in Milan!). I'm curious – what's YOUR favourite Pancake Day topping?

P.P.S. Speaking of pink perfection, how much pink is TOO much pink?! Let's discuss in the comments! 💕

Pink Tutu Milan #611 - Extended Edition!

Because let's face it, a fellow Pink Tutu aficionado like me can't possibly cover everything in just a regular-length blog post! Here's a bit more of what made this week so special:

On This Day: 2007-02-21

  • This was a big day in the world of celebrity: Paris Hilton (who definitely doesn't get enough credit for her pink-tastic fashion sense) debuted her own reality show, "Paris Hilton's My New BFF." Did anyone else think she should have invited the real BFF in this scenario - a sassy pink-tutu-clad ballerina, of course? 🤔
  • The UK also saw a little something called The Great British Bake Off (aka The Great British Baking Show) appear for the very first time on BBC. How much more perfect a way to celebrate a day so perfectly intertwined with both tutus and cakes could there possibly be?! I mean, can we really talk about ballet without discussing the delicate sweetness of the performance, especially with such a fabulous stage and set? (Not to mention the fabulous fashion worn by the dancers, or the gorgeous gowns of the audience - yes, I know that some people think that Bake Off is only about pastries - I'm clearly an exceptional exception! 🤩)

Beyond Milan:

I was in Milan, but let's not forget about Derbyshire, where my Pink Tutu heart will forever reside. This date had me feeling incredibly nostalgic. Do you ever have that feeling when you travel somewhere amazing but also feel like a little part of you is still back in Derbyshire? It’s a good kind of feeling. Derbyshire has so much to offer the tutu-loving soul – the elegant Derwent Valley, the grandeur of Chatsworth House, and oh, those lush rolling hills, ready to be twirled through with a joyful flourish! I even spied a local boutique selling stunning ballet-inspired knitwear.

Speaking of tutus, I think my recent obsession with colour is catching. In fact, I'm finding myself more and more attracted to pink-tinged anything these days, from clothing to interiors. Perhaps it’s all thanks to the dazzling pink world I’m inhabiting at the moment.

This reminds me! While I'm on a fashion roll, here's a sneak peek at the outfits that are gracing my wardrobe this week in Milan. It's a true celebration of all things pink:

Tuesday - My favourite vintage boutique unearthed a magnificent pastel-pink, full-skirted dress – I can’t resist anything frilly or voluminous, can I?! 😉. For footwear, it had to be classic ballet flats – simple and chic. This look was perfect for exploring Milan’s historic city centre, strolling through elegant squares and finding charming cafes tucked away between historic buildings.

Wednesday – A breezy, blush pink shirt dress, flowing like the wind (okay, I'll be honest, a slightly cooler version of the wind, as Milan in February was more 'nippy' than 'balmy'! ❄️) was my pick for class at the lovely ballet studio, where even the pinkest of attire feels perfectly fitting! I even felt a tad stylish on the commute, thanks to a sleek leather tote and pink ballet socks – the perfect way to pull a pink ensemble together.

Thursday – To watch the ballet, I had to be glamorous, so I paired a luxurious salmon pink sequined top with sleek, black tailored trousers. The look is elegant and effortlessly sophisticated, perfect for watching the breathtaking art of the ballerinas on stage. A sparkling pink clutch was a glamorous touch. And for my footwear, nothing but the highest of stilettos to elevate my look – because why should only ballerinas be high on life? 😄

Friday – The city is my oyster when it comes to the fun of a little fashion Friday! To top off a fantastic week of pinkness in Milan, I chose a fun, bright pink pencil skirt. This time, I'll be going for a quirky and chic look with a white blouse featuring a modern geometric print and my go-to pink ballet flats for the day. For accessories, I'll keep it minimal – just my silver statement earrings to complete the look! It's about that casual elegance, ya know? 😄

You can even see my daily outfit choices on my Instagram page: @PinkTutuMilan - if you haven’t joined me there already, hop on over and join the pink party! ✨
