Pink Tutu Milan: Week 650 - November 21st, 2007 - La Scala & a Dash of Dolce!

Ciao bella! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, back from a whirlwind week in the fashion capital of the world: Milan! I'm writing this from the comfort of my darling little Airbnb apartment, surrounded by pink-hued cushions and a million twinkling fairy lights. This city has truly enchanted me, and I can already feel the creative spark igniting inside. So grab a cuppa (or a cappuccino, if you're fancy!), snuggle into your pinkest pyjamas, and join me for a trip through my week in Milan!

From Derbyshire to Dolce & Gabbana:

I left my cosy Derbyshire cottage last Sunday, suitcase bursting with tutus (in every shade of pink imaginable, of course!), ready to conquer Milan. My travel wardrobe was carefully curated, as always, for a delightful balance of elegance and comfort. The train journey through the Italian countryside was breathtaking - sun-drenched vineyards rolling into quaint villages, each with a story waiting to be unveiled.

Reaching Milan's bustling station was a symphony of aromas - coffee, leather, and the undeniable whiff of freshly baked pastries. Stepping off the train felt like stepping into a real-life fashion magazine.

Trams & tutus - A delightful combination:

For a real Milanese experience, I jumped aboard one of their iconic red trams. Weaving through narrow streets, passing cobbled piazzas, the vibrant colours and the city's energy instantly captivated me. I loved the friendly, casual air - even the tram driver, bless his cotton socks, gave me a knowing wink as I sashayed onto the platform in my blush pink tutu, with a matching sparkly pink beret perched jauntily atop my curls. It's all about embracing the Parisian je ne sais quoi with a touch of Derbyshire sparkle, you know?

The Heart of Opera: Teatro Alla Scala

Monday morning found me in the hallowed halls of the Teatro Alla Scala - Italy's most famous opera house. The building, majestic and ornate, radiated a history of pure artistic brilliance. Stepping inside, it was like walking into a fairytale - plush velvet seating, intricate gold-leaf decorations, and the palpable buzz of anticipation. The show was simply spellbinding; a symphony of passionate singing, powerful acting, and mesmerising costumes. It truly made my heart sing!

After the show, I savored a delightful plate of pasta at a charming trattoria nestled in a tiny courtyard - all candlelight, delicious smells and lively conversations. I met a charming, bespectacled gentleman named Marco who was quite enamoured by my tutu, suggesting it could be used as an ingenious stage prop. You never know!

A Pink-a-thon at Corso Buenos Aires

Shopping in Milan is truly an art form, and one that I couldn't resist exploring. The iconic Corso Buenos Aires, a vibrant shopping street filled with both designer boutiques and high-street stores, was an irresistible playground for my fashion-loving soul. I danced through aisles of sequins, felt the silk of luxurious dresses, and discovered an amazing vintage shop filled with dreamy, vintage lace-trimmed tutus! I was in a pink-a-thon heaven!

Of course, I couldn't leave without trying on some outfits, and it's a good thing I packed extra luggage, because I was about to buy half of Milan. I snagged a blush-pink chiffon top, a perfectly Parisian straw hat (which is so me, darling), and even a new, very fabulous pair of black, ballet-inspired pumps. These beauties, paired with my new fluffy tutu, are already calling for a grand photoshoot in Piazza del Duomo!

The Duomo: A dazzling cathedral in a whirlwind of pigeons

Every single picture of the Duomo, Milan's majestic cathedral, does it no justice! Seeing it in person was utterly breath-taking. I spent a long afternoon admiring its intricate details, its magnificent facade and the stunning spires piercing the sky. Of course, there were some rather charming (read: ferocious) pigeons to add to the scene. They looked so grand amongst the architectural grandeur, with their plump bellies and haughty eyes, just waiting for someone to feed them their next pink cupcake! But I'm a firm believer in enjoying these creatures in their natural habitat, so no cupcakes for them - I enjoyed the photo opportunity instead!

Finding My "Je ne sais quoi" in Piazza della Scala

The evening took me to the Piazza della Scala - the beating heart of Milan. This bustling square, dominated by the imposing Teatro Alla Scala, bustled with energy and creativity. I wandered around, mesmerized by the street artists, the beautiful people and the elegant shops. This was truly the centre of "je ne sais quoi" in the world of fashion. Milan, it seems, has something for everyone, from classical opera fans to hardcore shopping devotees like yours truly!

Back to my little pink paradise:

As I'm writing this, my toes are curled up in my pink slippers, the lights are dimmed to create a romantic mood, and the sound of Italian pop music floats through the apartment. It's almost like Milan is calling to me to enjoy the simplicity of my little pink paradise after the exhilarating day. I love being a pink tutu blogger and traveling the world. And even though I haven't even shared half the fun yet (like that amazing ballet class I took at the Centro Danza Milan - talk about grace!), I can't help but think that my journey to the heart of Milan was more than a trip, it was an adventure of a lifetime.

Join me again next week, for another adventure from Milan!

In the meantime, share your own travel tips! I'd love to know your favourite pink destinations, your favourite tutus, and most importantly - tell me how you're spreading the pink tutu love! Don't forget to check back on www.pink-tutu.com for new blog posts every Monday.

Until then, remember: wear your pink tutu with pride!

Love,

Emma xx
