Pink Tutu Milan: Week of 9th January 2008 (Post #657)

Ciao, darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, and I'm absolutely buzzing to be back in Milan! It's my sixth trip to this stunning city and each time it feels like I'm falling in love all over again. You see, darling, Milan is simply magic – the architecture, the food, the fashion, the ballet... it just resonates with my soul.

Now, as you know, I'm all about embracing life in full, pink tutu and all! This week has been an absolute whirlwind of exciting happenings, so strap in, darlings, because you're in for a treat!

From Derbyshire to Milan: A Pink Tutu Journey

First off, let me paint you a picture. Picture a crisp Derbyshire morning, my beloved home county. It’s 6 am, the sun is barely peeping over the horizon, and I’m already up, packing my suitcase. I’ve got a grand total of two suitcases stuffed with tutus of all shades (yes, you read that right, even a touch of coral!) and a plethora of fabulous frocks fit for a Milanese princess. Then, after a quick farewell to my lovely family, it's off to the station. The excitement bubbles inside me as I settle onto the train, surrounded by the reassuring clink-clatter of tracks. Hours whizz by in a flash, and before I know it, I'm stepping out onto the bustling platforms of Milano Centrale. The scent of fresh pastries, the hum of Italian voices, the dazzling array of colours... ahh, Milan, you have me at "hello"!

Milan: My Love Affair With This Fashion Capital

I immediately head straight to my favourite hotel, nestled amidst the stylish streets of Brera. It's like stepping into a fairy tale - think plush velvet drapes, delicate chandeliers, and a team of staff who treat me like royalty. The staff even know to leave a selection of my favourite pastries at my door each morning! It's no surprise this is my go-to place – it's simply bursting with charm and elegance.

As the afternoon rolls in, it's time for a little indulgence: a spot of shopping, of course! Milan is an absolute paradise for any fashionista – you’ve got Gucci, Armani, Prada... you name it, Milan’s got it! I find myself wandering through boutiques like a giddy child in a candy shop, my heart fluttering with the excitement of finding the perfect outfit.

Now, I know what you're thinking - Emma, you already have enough clothes! What's the need for more?. My darling, it's about so much more than just clothes. It’s about expressing myself, letting my personality shine through with every outfit. Besides, the joy of discovering a beautiful dress, its delicate fabrics flowing around me... there's nothing quite like it.

But don’t worry, darlings, I'm not just obsessed with designer boutiques. There's also a wealth of charming vintage stores to discover. I found this exquisite pink feather boa the other day - just the perfect accessory to add a dash of colour to my ensembles.

From Shops to Stages: A Night of Ballet Bliss

After a delicious dinner at my favourite trattoria (you just have to try their spaghetti alle vongole!), it's off to Teatro alla Scala. The air thrumming with anticipation, the scent of leather and perfume, and the orchestra warming up... ooh la la! It’s simply electrifying. Tonight, we are transported to another world, a world of elegance, passion, and pure artistic beauty. The stage comes alive with a vibrant performance of Swan Lake, its graceful swans, their ethereal beauty captivating the entire theatre. This kind of passion, the raw emotion on display – it’s the perfect expression of art. And let’s face it, what's better than experiencing a timeless ballet masterpiece on the hallowed stage of Teatro alla Scala?

Taking Milan by Tram... and in My Pink Tutu

No trip to Milan is complete without a ride on the tram, darling. I adore its gentle sway, the glimpses of the city's everyday life. And what’s better, is being able to simply jump off and explore different corners of Milan. One minute, I'm sipping coffee in a bustling piazza, the next, I’m admiring Renaissance art at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the light streaming through its ornate glass roof. This city, with its intricate tapestry of culture and style, continues to mesmerise.

And, of course, I'm never too shy to make a grand entrance. One morning, I even decided to hop onto the tram wearing my most extravagant pink tutu! It wasn’t your typical Milanese ensemble, let me tell you. You can imagine the looks of curious glances, smiles, and even a few giggles! The energy was electric!

Milanese Delights: A Feast for the Senses

Of course, Milan is a feast for more than just your eyes. From creamy gelati that melts in your mouth to the aroma of freshly baked focaccia, Milan has an intoxicating flavour that tantalises every sense.

On Wednesday, we stumbled upon a hidden gem in the Navigli district - a tiny café nestled along a canal, overflowing with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and delectable pastries. We sat down, soaking in the atmosphere, and ordered an assortment of pastries, each more enticing than the last. We spent hours lost in conversation, sipping cappuccinos and giggling over the absurdities of life, surrounded by the vibrant buzz of Milan.

But this week’s highlight was the afternoon spent at the charming little bakery down the road. I don’t know how they do it, but their cakes are a thing of magic. Each mouthful, a revelation of exquisite textures and flavours that would melt the coldest of hearts. Oh, and let’s not forget the delightful gelato I indulged in afterwards! Just a little something sweet to reward myself after all that sightseeing.

Finding My Pink Tutu Spirit: It's Contagious!

My dearest readers, it truly amazes me the way this city keeps inspiring me. The effortless blend of fashion and tradition, the passion for the arts, the warmth of the locals... it all leaves me feeling invigorated and brimming with inspiration. It’s almost impossible not to fall in love with Milan.

I’ve been fortunate to share these moments with a dear friend from England, who flew in to join me this week. And while we were on one of our whirlwind adventures, guess what happened? Someone saw my tutu, a flash of pink amid the bustling crowd! A young woman in her teens, her eyes widening in awe, asked "Do you sell these?" I giggled, "My dear, this is a bespoke creation, designed especially for my dance performances. But why not wear pink, darling?" She grinned back, and before you know it, she’s pulling out her phone and snapping a picture of my ensemble, giggling. Now that's my mission, my darling readers, to spread the love of pink, and tutus, across the globe.

This experience, this energy of Milan, it's contagious!

See you next Monday for more adventures from the pinkest corner of Milan! Love you all!
