Pink Tutu Milan: Post 730 - Wednesday 3rd June, 2009

Buongiorno from Milan! The sun is shining, the gelato is calling, and I'm practically pirouetting down the cobbled streets of this glamorous city. Today, I'm on a mission: to soak up the Milanese fashion scene and maybe even find a little something pink to add to my wardrobe.

This week's Pink Tutu Milan blog is all about exploring the fashion capital, venturing into its beautiful historic buildings, and enjoying the incredible energy of this vibrant city.

Remember how I said I'm always looking for inspiration for my own tutus? Well, Milan is absolutely overflowing with it! Just the sheer elegance of the buildings is enough to send me into a creative frenzy. Every corner I turn, there’s a new shade of pink, a unique silhouette, and an exciting glimpse of something truly special. I'm trying not to go overboard, but the shopping opportunities are frankly, quite dazzling.

The Tram, the Train and the Galleria

So, let's rewind back to my journey this morning. After a quick croissant and espresso (with extra sugar, naturally) at my favourite little café, I headed out to catch the tram. Yes, I adore the thrill of speeding through the streets on the tram - there’s a sense of freedom, a whizz of cool air as you go by and a touch of vintage charm that I absolutely adore. Milan's tram system is a brilliant way to get around and navigate those narrow cobblestone lanes and grand boulevards.

Then came a glorious trip on the train! Now, trains are a bit of a guilty pleasure. I just love sitting by the window watching the scenery blur past. It's like a ballet of colour, shapes, and textures - you can spot so much life going by as you race through the countryside, villages, towns and then on to this glorious metropolis!

From the moment I stepped off the train in Milan's Central Station, the buzz was electrifying! Today's mission? A pilgrimage to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a grand shopping arcade brimming with history and breathtaking beauty. Imagine a shopping palace, with exquisite arches, stunning mosaics, and shops offering everything from luxury fashion to delectable chocolates.

But first, a must-do! A photo by the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II mosaic, a symbol of Milan’s exquisite craftsmanship. Naturally, I'm sporting my favourite pink tutu and a new hat I picked up from the sweetest little shop on Via Montenapoleone - it has a pink silk flower and just screams Italian elegance, don’t you think?

Opera and a Little Theatre

Tonight, the grand opera is calling. I’m off to the Teatro alla Scala, one of the most famous opera houses in the world. Just stepping through those iconic doors is an unforgettable experience! The Teatro alla Scala has a rich history - the music, the drama, the opulent interiors make you feel transported back in time. It’s pure theatre, pure art and pure enchantment! And trust me, the costumes are stunning - they deserve their own spotlight! It wouldn’t be out of place to see a ballet inspired by them! Speaking of ballet…

I saw an incredibly vibrant street performance today! I couldn't believe how passionate these dancers were! Imagine graceful movements, dramatic choreography, and the perfect blend of energy and emotion. I may not be on stage performing myself today, but watching talented street dancers was a treat! Milan's streets are a stage - a catwalk, a platform where creativity flows and people let loose their joy. It’s absolutely contagious!

Shopping and a Touch of Pink

Of course, no trip to Milan is complete without a little retail therapy. And let's face it, fashion and elegance ooze out of every doorway and boutique. You have to check out Via Montenapoleone. This iconic shopping street is like a dream world for anyone who loves to dress up and be creative with their looks. I spotted some fantastic accessories – headbands with dazzling sequins and pink feather boas to complete that perfect look! Plus, there's something special about a well-tailored vintage dress, especially if you can snag it in a fabulous pink! So naturally, I made a quick stop and scooped up a delightful blush pink vintage gown – just perfect for a little pirouette at my evening recital.

Food, Fashion and Italian Flair

You know how I love my fashion, but here’s another truth - I also have a serious sweet tooth! This week, I've indulged in an extraordinary selection of Italian delicacies. I'm talking delicate tiramisu so good it melts in your mouth, decadent panettone, and of course, perfectly smooth and creamy gelato! It's all so delicious - my stomach is saying, "Emma, please, you must eat it all!" I’m telling you, there’s something magical about Italian food and drink - it simply tastes like happiness.

And as much as I love Milan’s famous fashion, it’s also the little things that truly capture my heart: the aroma of freshly baked bread wafting from a local bakery, the vibrant colours splashed across the street markets, and the energy of the people as they walk along the streets, chattering and laughing, their eyes sparkling. I am loving the charm of this city!

Until Next Week

Ciao from Milan, everyone. Until next week, keep twirling, stay sparkly, and may your lives be as delightful and bright as a pink tutu. Don’t forget to visit my blog again, next week for a little more of Pink Tutu Milan!

Yours truly, Emma
