Pink Tutu Milan: Post #759 – Christmas Sparkle and Sugar Plum Dreams in the City of Fashion

Ciao bella!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu Milan, post number 759! The air is crisp, the streets are abuzz with festive cheer, and my heart is filled with sugar plum dreams. It’s the 23rd December 2009, and Milan is glistening under a dusting of winter snow, turning the city into a picture postcard straight out of a Christmas fairytale.

Today, my lovely readers, I’m bringing you a double dose of pink tutu magic, with a side of glitzy glamour and some serious fashion envy. First, let’s dive into my delightful adventure to a festive ballet performance – something that never fails to make me feel like a true ballerina princess, even if the closest I’ve gotten to a royal castle is my own tiny attic bedroom back in Derbyshire!

The lights are twinkling, the orchestra is tuning, and I’m sat here, nestled between two adorable children, watching their eyes widen with wonder as the magic of ballet unfolds before them. I feel like I’m right there on the stage, soaring through the air with grace and elegance, pirouetting with a lightness I can only dream of in my daily life!

Today's performance was a breathtaking rendition of "The Nutcracker," featuring a company of dancers that left me speechless with their skill and artistry. I’m not just talking about the sugar plum fairies – although, let's be honest, those always hold a special place in my tutu-wearing heart – but also the nimble little mice, the magnificent snowflakes, and of course, the dazzling Christmas party scene, which literally sparkled with the pure joy of festive celebration!

And wouldn’t you know it, my dear readers, but a gorgeous red and silver sequined tutu found its way onto the stage tonight! Now, we all know how much I love tutus, but the ones made for ballet are just pure magic. They’re so intricate, so delicately sewn with love, and every single movement they make seems to capture a story within a story. My eyes practically popped out of my head when I saw this magnificent tutu flitting around, bringing a touch of whimsical Christmas magic to life!

Speaking of magic, I managed to snag a glimpse of the costumes backstage after the show! I’m still completely enthralled by the sheer amount of artistry, craftsmanship, and detail that goes into making these exquisite masterpieces. My favourite, apart from the sparkling sequined tutu, was a magnificent ivory costume with feathers, so light and ethereal that I could almost imagine myself flying over the stage in its embrace!

However, there’s more to Milan than just breathtaking ballet performances! As you all know, I’m absolutely crazy about all things fashion. So, I couldn’t resist indulging in a spot of retail therapy before I finally retreated to the warmth and comfort of my hotel.

The streets of Milan are practically overflowing with boutiques bursting with beautiful clothes, shoes, and accessories. It’s an absolute fashion heaven! I confess, I completely fell head over heels for a little pink beret I found at a quaint shop tucked away on a cobbled backstreet. And let’s not forget a glorious pair of knee-high boots adorned with delicate silver stars – pure Christmas magic for your feet, darling!

While I may not have a big bank account or a closet fit for a princess, let’s be honest, even just looking at those luxurious shops and browsing through their sparkling displays can be a treat. Milan is all about embracing the beautiful and decadent, and for a day like this, I didn't even feel a twinge of guilt as I soaked up all the inspiration for my own pink-tutu infused outfits!

I managed to take in all this gloriousness by taking a wonderfully charming journey across Milan on one of its vintage trams. You simply must hop on a Milanese tram, readers. They’re a blast from the past, full of quirky charm, and offer a fantastic window into the heart of the city. And while the journey may have been slower than hopping onto the Metro, that just gave me more time to soak up the sights and sounds of this wonderful city.

As dusk descended and the city lights began to twinkle, I felt a profound sense of joy and gratitude. It’s such a blessing to be able to experience the magic of this city, surrounded by beauty, elegance, and artistry at every turn. And let's not forget those glorious festive decorations and all the twinkling lights!

There is something about the festive season that makes every corner of the world feel special, but there is truly something magical about celebrating Christmas in Milan, and not just for the fashion and the shows! I love how everyone embraces the true spirit of Christmas, radiating joy and cheer with such heartfelt warmth.

Now, dear readers, I need to admit, even I sometimes find myself succumbing to the holiday spirit. My Christmas cheer took on a rather unexpected form last week: I finally convinced myself that everyone should own a pink tutu! And not just a basic pink tutu – think sparkling tutus, velvet tutus, lace tutus! Honestly, they’re not just for ballet. Think of the fun you can have dancing at holiday parties or wearing them for a special festive outing. And trust me, wearing a pink tutu will undoubtedly add a little sparkle and cheer to your life, no matter where you are.

As for my own pink tutu plans, I'm in a total brainstorming mode! My mind is swirling with all sorts of creative ideas for new pink tutu adventures. Perhaps a Parisian picnic in a vintage pink tutu? Or a day at the opera in a velvet pink tutu? The possibilities are practically endless!

Before I end this post, let me just share a tiny piece of my Christmas wish for you, dear readers, that you’ll embrace the beauty, joy, and warmth of this season with a little bit of sparkle and a whole lot of pink-tutu spirit! And I'd love to hear from you about your holiday adventures and dreams in the comments below!

Until next week, may your life be filled with pink tutu magic, Emma xoxo
