Pink Tutu Milan - Post #771: Milanese Dreams and Pink-hued Delights (2010-03-17)

Ciao, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, here, writing to you from the heart of Milan. As always, my darling tutu and I are back with another instalment of our adventures in this fabulous city!

This week, Milan is radiating with a special kind of magic. The air crackles with energy as fashion week comes to a close, and the streets pulse with the beat of vibrant life. For me, there's no place more inspiring, especially when adorned with my signature shade of pink!

My trusty tutu and I took a ride on the tram to the heart of the city – we just couldn't resist the call of the gorgeous designer shops! From Prada to Gucci, Versace to Armani, each window beckoned with a promise of style and sophistication. I confess, my darling tutu did a little shimmy and I practically burst with excitement! You wouldn't believe the sheer volume of pink! Oh, the sartorial delights that filled me with dreams of the most fantastical tutus, all adorned with exquisite embellishments, ribbons, and lace... truly, a ballerina's dream!

But shopping is only half the story. Milan has an enchanting energy that weaves its magic into everything from the charming cafes tucked away in cobbled alleyways to the grand art galleries.

Speaking of enchanting experiences, I'm so excited to share my ballet escapade!

This week, I spent a wonderful afternoon at the Teatro alla Scala, which for you non-Italian speaking lovelies is the grand Milan Opera House. It's truly magnificent. The building itself is like a fairytale palace, all intricate carvings, gleaming marble, and a majestic façade. Then, I walked inside. The auditorium, oh my goodness! The plush velvet seating, the elaborate chandeliers... my darling tutu actually did a mini twirl as we entered! And then, the ballet... oh, the ballet! It was a rendition of "Swan Lake", a story of love, tragedy, and graceful transformation that brought tears to my eyes. The costumes were breathtaking! They all seemed to have been lovingly hand-crafted and shimmering under the stage lights, just like a real life dream.

After the performance, I felt a surge of inspiration. Ballet, fashion, beauty, art - everything about Milan has sparked my creative flame. So, I thought, "Why not share some of my favourite things with all of you!"

So here goes, my darlings:

Emma's Pink Tutu Milan Essentials:

  1. Pink lipstick and a generous sweep of blush: To complement my darling pink tutu, nothing screams feminine chic like a touch of rosy hues on the face! The pinkest of pinks are definitely a must-have when you're strolling around the glamorous streets of Milan.

  2. A pair of elegant shoes: I am of course talking about ballet flats, darlings! A comfortable yet stylish pair of pink ballet flats are perfect for navigating the charming cobblestone streets and even popping into the swankiest of designer boutiques.

  3. A cute little crossbody bag: My darling tutu and I always travel in style! This bag, darling, is essential for carrying all the things that make our adventures so special: phone, wallet, my lucky pink scarf, and the must-have for every fashionista – a mirror, darling! A pink mirror, naturally!

  4. A vintage hat: It might not seem like a must-have, but you would be surprised what a lovely, vintage hat can do for an outfit! Think berets, cloche hats, and fascinators! Not only is it a stylish accessory, it is a great way to keep the sun out of your eyes during the summer months.

  5. A sprinkle of glitter and a splash of glamour: No outfit is complete without a little bit of sparkle, darlings! Whether it’s a glittering necklace, some delicate earrings, or even just a dash of pink glitter eyeshadow, you need to radiate the chic vibes of Milan!

You've gotta know that my trip was not complete without some time in the most incredible, and definitely the most famous, café in all of Milan. This is it, my darlings! The Pasticceria Marchesi! Established back in 1824 and standing just a stone's throw from the Teatro alla Scala, this iconic confectionary is the perfect spot to indulge in their signature sweets.

My heart almost skipped a beat when I entered, all polished marble countertops, glass display cabinets showcasing pastries like a work of art! My dear tutu had a real sparkle in her sequins that day! We had a spot overlooking the street and ordered a cappuccino and their signature almond biscuits. Oh, I’ll be dreaming of them forever, all the intricate detail in every pastry, the delicate balance of flavours... you see, it was just the perfect balance of sweet indulgence and artistic elegance!

Milan is all about those contrasts, my darlings. Glamour and grit, old and new, history and modern design. There is something here to inspire anyone who embraces its captivating beauty, just like me and my pink tutu!

And remember my sweet darlings: wear a pink tutu, because you never know who you might meet when you do!

Ciao for now!
