Pink Tutu Milan: #816 - 26th January 2011 - Whirlwind Wednesday in the City of Style!
Hello darling tutus! Welcome to another installment of my Milan diary. It’s Wednesday 26th January 2011 and I’m absolutely bursting with excitement - you see, it’s been quite the whirlwind of a day here in Milan!
Today I had to pinch myself more than once to remind myself this was reality. First up, the tram journey to the Teatro alla Scala. I’m a total tram-loving gal; you see, there's something about watching the world roll by that is truly captivating. It's the best way to observe the bustle of Milan – and for me, nothing beats the classic Milanese chic strutting along the cobblestone streets, a whirlwind of bold prints and fabulous hats. I’d spotted this particularly fabulous fedora, the perfect blend of vintage glamour and modern edge, and of course I had to take a photo! Now, I’ll let you in on a little secret. One of my greatest passions, right after tutus, is ballet performances. And today’s performance at the Teatro alla Scala was a total dream come true! The setting alone is breathtaking, like something straight out of a fairy tale. Just picture it: ornate balconies, shimmering chandeliers, velvet seats, and, of course, a stage that feels like a magic portal.
The ballet was “Swan Lake”, a masterpiece I’ve always adored. It was utterly captivating. The way those ballerinas danced - the effortless leaps, the captivating grace - took my breath away! And the costumes, oh my goodness, pure fantasy! Every feather, every jewel - it all spoke of artistry, dedication, and that pure love of dance. And let me tell you, I was so inspired!
It wouldn't be a perfect day without some fashion exploration, now would it? Straight after the ballet, I dashed off to find a delightful little vintage shop nestled in the heart of the Brera District (a place bursting with hidden gems!). Imagine this: antique mirrors, velvet armchairs, and rails and rails of beautiful garments, some even sporting the unmistakable flair of the Roaring Twenties! I snagged a beautiful silk scarf - think scarlet with delicate embroidered gold floral designs - that simply had my name on it. You know, those kind of items that are more than just fabric, they are little whispers of past elegance.
Now, here's the truth: you see, as a dancer, my day wasn't done! I'm always striving to improve and find new ways to express myself, so off I went to a ballet class tucked away in a cozy studio in the Navigli district. This time, I learned about some new barre exercises. Let me tell you, my muscles may be aching right now, but it feels fantastic! The rhythm of the music, the camaraderie with my fellow dancers, the sheer joy of movement - there's no better feeling!
So, after an evening filled with twirling, laughter, and discovering hidden gems, I'm now enjoying a delicious gelato (they say the secret is the milk in Milan! Can't tell if that's true, but it is darned tasty!).
A day like this - ballet, vintage fashion, a sprinkle of cultural discoveries, and the comfort of my pink tutu - that’s how I like to live my life.
And you know what, my lovelies? It's moments like these that remind me that it's not about just being stylish. It's about the passion, the dedication, the drive to chase those dreams - big or small.
My little piece of the world - Milan - truly is the most beautiful city for indulging in such adventures. If you haven't been, add it to your list! The only regret you'll have is not staying longer!
Until next Monday, keep dancing, keep dreaming, and above all, keep twirling in those fabulous tutus!
Stay sassy,
Emma xo

P.P.S I've decided to dedicate a portion of this week's earnings to help a local charity that provides ballet classes for underprivileged children. It just feels right, you know? Sharing the magic of dance is so important! I think it would be even more rewarding if we could all join hands in making a small contribution - together, we can make a real difference. Even if it’s just a few euros, every bit helps! We can all make this a pink tutu-filled world, right?!
