Pink Tutu Milan: #837 – Ciao Bella! A Ballerina's Guide to Milan's Magical Charms
Wednesday 2011-06-22
Buongiorno, my darlings!
This week, I’m writing to you from sunny Milan, the fashion capital of the world. As you know, I'm a big fan of fashion - and believe me, this city doesn't disappoint! It's practically bursting with style, from the chic boutiques of Via Montenapoleone to the trendy street style of the Navigli district. I'm wearing a new pink tulle tutu today, a gorgeous confection I spotted at a little boutique near the Duomo.
This city feels so alive! There's so much energy and excitement everywhere I go, it's utterly intoxicating. I'm soaking up every moment, like a sponge in a beautiful bath of beautiful things! But my dear readers, you already know I don't just live for the pretty clothes and pretty things; I live for the dance! And trust me, Milan's ballet scene is utterly divine!
Last night, I went to the Teatro alla Scala, one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world. The theatre itself was truly breathtaking - a marvel of ornate beauty with incredible gold detailing and a ceiling that feels like it touches the heavens! The opera I saw was Rigoletto, Verdi's heart-wrenching masterpiece, and it was simply phenomenal. The singers were incredible - voices that soared through the grand theatre, leaving me breathless and entranced.
Of course, no trip to Milan would be complete without indulging in the local cuisine! Earlier today, I enjoyed a delightful lunch at a small trattoria near the Basilica di Sant’Ambrogio. The aroma of fresh bread, fragrant tomato sauce, and melt-in-your-mouth Parmesan was absolutely divine. I indulged in a plate of pasta with a delicious pesto sauce and a creamy tiramisu that nearly made me weep with joy!
I wouldn’t be a true ballerina if I didn’t have some fun in the studios, too! Today, I dropped into the Accademia Teatro alla Scala, a prestigious dance academy in the heart of Milan. The studios were so inspiring – bright, airy spaces filled with beautiful dancers moving gracefully across the polished floors. There was so much energy and focus in the room, it was infectious! It makes you want to twirl! I might just enroll for a masterclass during my stay; you can never stop learning!
Now, let’s talk trams! Have I ever told you about my love affair with trams? Something about the rumble and rhythm of a tram – the constant movement against the scenery… There’s a grace and elegance to a well-maintained tram, and the carriages themselves become these beautifully adorned art installations. Here in Milan, they’re just as lovely! I found myself on the tram number 2 earlier today, gliding through the vibrant streets.
So, my lovelies, I hope this gives you a little glimpse of what Milan has to offer! If you ever get the chance to visit this glorious city, I encourage you to come and soak in the beauty. It’s a city that really comes alive! And while you’re here, make sure to wear a pink tutu – it’s practically the dress code for every fashionable occasion, or so I say!
But speaking of fashion, my dear friends, what else should you wear besides your tutu when visiting this vibrant city? Oh, where do I even start? Well, if you’re shopping at one of the beautiful, vintage shops (so many!), remember the importance of comfort - I always aim for chic and comfortable, like an effortlessly stylish ballerina! Pair those pretty flats you wear for rehearsals with a stunning vintage floral dress and let your pink tutu be a beautiful scarf around your shoulders. It adds a hint of colour and elegance, darling! And remember to keep that hair neat with a vintage scarf or hair band and the perfect pop of pink lipstick - after all, darling, a good lipstick is a girl’s best friend, wouldn't you agree? And don’t forget that cute little tote bag for those oh-so-important souvenirs. It adds the perfect little touch of whimsy and elegance to your look, don’t you think?
Oh, before I forget! Remember, all my lovely readers, I need your help spreading the pink tutu message! Join the #PinkTutuRevolution – share pictures of yourself in your own favourite pink tutu, whether you're wearing it to a ballet class or just popping down to the shops! The more tutus in the world, the more beauty there is, right?!
I must sign off now. The Italian sun is calling me for a lovely coffee on the terrace overlooking the Duomo. And you can bet, I’ll be wearing my favourite pink tulle tutu! Ciao bella!
Love, Emma xx
