Pink Tutu Milan - Wednesday 2012-06-06 - #887 🩰🇮🇹

Ciao Bella! It's me, Emma, your Pink Tutu girl, back with another whirlwind adventure from the fashion capital of the world - Milan! I'm so excited to be back in this glorious city, buzzing with creativity and surrounded by the most incredible fashion inspiration. Today’s adventure has been pure joy. It’s been a classic Emma Pink Tutu Milan day - Ballet, shopping, and more ballet, all punctuated by a little Italian magic.

So, let's take a trip back in time…

My morning started with the glorious, gentle rumble of a Milan tram - that iconic sound that makes me smile every time. I’ve always loved trams, I find them so romantic. The sunshine streamed in as I zoomed past shops filled with all things fabulous. You just don’t get this kind of Parisian-esque glamour on the trams back home in Derbyshire. The only thing missing was a beret!

I was on my way to Teatro alla Scala, that glorious building that is like the crown jewel of Italian Opera and Ballet. I always find myself a little breathless when I see it, its iconic white marble gleaming against the clear Italian sky. I love how even in the centre of the city, there is a tranquil and almost historic atmosphere that is all its own.

This morning, I was at a rehearsal for a new piece by one of Italy’s rising star choreographers - Antonio - he is a real maverick of the ballet world. His work is both innovative and stunning, so much so that the moment I met him at the ballet bar, I felt like my whole being was about to explode with energy. His vision was so alive, the choreography was a language of its own!

We’re lucky here in Italy to have so many dance academies with a wonderful ethos of nurturing, supporting and encouraging talented young people. Watching Antonio at work today gave me so much inspiration, it felt like an energetic blast from the heart of Milan. I found myself totally enthralled, it was the perfect start to my Milan morning. And let me tell you, the rehearsal room at Teatro alla Scala is the most glamorous place to be, all golden chandeliers and mirrored walls. You almost expect to bump into one of the world’s great ballerinas while dashing for the loo. It is like stepping into another time.

Later this afternoon I treated myself to a special lunch at a hidden gem off one of Milan's backstreets. It was all candlelight, white linen tablecloths, and delicious authentic Italian food. I adore Italian cuisine; the delicate aromas, the burst of flavors on your palate - It always makes me want to sing operatically! I sipped a glass of crisp, local white wine, feeling like a proper Milanese lady. And, naturally, I was completely absorbed in my Pink Tutu Milan world of imagining an outfit to complete my day!

Pink, pink, pink! It always calls to me in this city. A beautiful dusty rose coloured cashmere jumper caught my eye on the journey to the store, it made me think about how that perfect hue of blush would compliment a delicate pastel tutu. It was like the color of faded roses in the springtime - beautiful, whimsical, romantic! But then, I saw a stunning cerise red blouse and it felt like my day just became bold, fiery, powerful. How could I not wear both, I thought, as I merrily wandered through a world of color and style in Milan’s vibrant fashion district. I imagined a mix of these shades in my future designs. The colours of the world are like notes in a symphony, dancing on my artistic soul, making the music of my tutu world.

Of course, I simply couldn’t leave Milan without indulging in the latest collections of my favorite designer shoe brands. My heart did a little skip when I spied the new shoe styles - each one with its own distinctive, daring story. These shoes were works of art in their own right! The new Manolo Blahnik t-strap with the crystal embellishment, sparkling on a delicate ivory patent felt almost theatrical! A touch of the fairytale was something I simply had to try, it would look perfect on stage with my favorite ballerina pink tutu. Then there were the chunky platforms with their signature metallic accents in a luscious, decadent burgundy – oh, they were pure drama! So beautiful and daring! Perhaps a pink tutu could dance to these?

Oh, and just as I thought I had satisfied my shopping desires for the day, a brand new Valentino handbag in a blush pink called to me from its shelf, begging me to take it home and call it my own! I simply couldn’t resist its charm. It had an almost Victorian style, delicate and whimsical, and it felt so exquisitely made, a real luxury experience. And, yes, of course, it is already working it’s way into a number of future outfit concepts with my favorite pink tutus!

I do so love how this city inspires me. The way people here dress! The effortless style and panache… It is really something quite special. The streets themselves feel like an artistic platform and Milan is a true masterpiece. So I can’t resist taking in a few street performances later in the day – to enjoy the artistry of life unfolding before my eyes.

Tonight, it’s the turn of Teatro Nazionale to steal the spotlight for me. I'm ready for a fabulous ballet performance with a live orchestra! To lose myself in the movements and stories they tell through their dancing and costumes. And let’s not forget the beautiful tutus – and all the details! After a day of being completely enchanted by Milan and its dance, the show must go on. As for me, my tutu heart is simply filled to the brim with excitement! I cannot wait!

*Milan, you are an exquisite muse. What can I say, my dearest pink tutu lovers, but it’s good to be back in the heart of the Italian world of fashion and artistry… There’s no place like Milan. And I am so incredibly grateful that I get to experience this vibrant and beautiful city! *
