Bonjour, my darling Tutu Twirlers! It’s Wednesday, the 11th of July, and Emma’s here with another blast of pink, positive energy straight from the heart of Milano! It feels so good to be back in this bustling city, a vibrant vortex of fashion, culture, and most importantly… tutus!
Remember last week when I said that Derbyshire felt like a million miles from the energy of a proper big city? Well, Milan is like stepping into a high-fashion fairytale. Imagine cobbled streets alive with colour, stylish cafes spilling onto sidewalks, and elegant architecture draped in terracotta tones – all accompanied by the cheerful chatter of local fashionistas. It’s almost like walking through a vintage Italian film, except there’s more pink. And tutus. So much more pink and tutus!
This week has been all about exploring Milano’s hidden gems, savouring the city’s incredible food, and indulging in my favourite pastime - finding the perfect outfit to complement the latest Parisian tutu designs I’ve picked up. It's all a part of my ongoing mission: to spread the tutu-wearing love worldwide. I mean, come on, who doesn't want to twirl through life in a cloud of tulle and feel like they could soar over rooftops?
And believe me, you need that extra dose of magic when you're trying to navigate the chaotic but exhilarating Milanese traffic! Speaking of chaos, I almost lost my favourite blush-coloured tutu on my first tram ride. Imagine the heartbreak! Fortunately, I snagged it just in time - you know me, a girl's gotta protect her pink! It wouldn't have been the same without the flamboyant, perfectly pink accessory to brighten up this city's already colorful spirit.
But back to my mission. Yesterday, I popped into one of my favourite Milanese stores, “La Boutique Rosa” – think boudoirs, florals, and silk, oh my! They've been doing a brilliant line of ruffled, floral pink tutus that just scream “Italy on vacation!”. I even managed to pick up a pair of cherry-red heels to complement a stunning ruby red tutu I have my eye on for a grand performance coming up. Oh, the magic!
Later this week, I'm treating myself to a delicious evening at Teatro alla Scala, Milano's renowned opera house. You can't get more glamorous than a grand performance in the most majestic theatre in the country! Of course, I'm making a bold fashion statement for the evening with my signature pink tutu. Think opera-chic with a playful twist. Maybe even some feathers? Or perhaps some sparkle? Either way, I'll be the one on the stage in my mind! And my outfit will, as always, make a statement - after all, it’s a Pink Tutu Mission to Spread the Tutu Love!
Ballet Performance Spotlight!This week, my darling Tutu Twirlers, has been especially exciting as I was lucky enough to get tickets for a wonderful ballet performance at the Teatro Strehler! The production, "Giselle," captivated my imagination. It's the tale of a young, delicate ballerina, Giselle, and her heartbreaking romance.
I mean, imagine! Ballet on stage, a love story told with every pirouette and every jeté, emotions painted with every graceful leap and poignant pas de deux - just breathtaking! I was so inspired by the dancers, and their movements brought tears to my eyes at the most touching parts of the story. They poured their hearts and souls into each gesture, their every step carrying the weight of love and sorrow.
Of course, as always, my outfit was on point! I couldn't let down my Parisian pink tulle dress, and I couldn't let down the delicate, fragile romance of the play, either. That’s why I finished the look with a pearl-encrusted headband, dainty black pumps, and a tiny matching purse to complete my perfect evening ensemble! The pink stood out beautifully in the plush theatre seats. After the show, everyone wanted to know where I got the amazing tulle skirt - they are the very best for a touch of magical elegance at any event!
I always enjoy meeting new people who share the love for ballet! At the performance, I spoke with a wonderful ballet teacher from the nearby Scuola di Ballo della Scala. They're nurturing future generations of amazing ballet dancers, teaching them everything from classical to contemporary dance forms. I’m trying to schedule a special class with the school while I’m here, as it's important to give back and support future artists - especially if they're passionate about the world of ballet!
The vibrant colours of the costumes and the dramatic story painted by the dancers were pure magic. “Giselle” is a must-see for any true ballet enthusiast. Just make sure you have a box of tissues handy. You'll be feeling all the feels, my lovely Tutu Twirlers!
From Ballet to Street StyleAnd what’s a trip to Milano without some delightful street style discoveries? Every turn on these beautiful streets brings a burst of colour, texture, and oh-so-stylish individuals who are not afraid to embrace a fashion fantasy. And I'm not just talking about fashion trends; I’m talking about personalities exploding through carefully curated outfits. You can feel the energy, the confidence! The Milanese love pushing boundaries and exploring the fun, wild side of fashion!
Just last week, I had a brilliant afternoon exploring the Via della Spiga. Think luxury brands, chic boutiques, and everything a fashionista could dream of! I had the most exciting experience, bumping into an up-and-coming fashion designer, Beatrice. We instantly hit it off over a love of bold colours and flamboyant fashion - oh, and did I mention that she had her own unique tutu collection that we talked about for hours?!
As the afternoon sun spilled onto the streets, I discovered a little corner café just outside the grand Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and there it was – my new favourite Italian creation, “Panettone al Limoncello”! It was an explosion of refreshing sweetness, perfectly capturing the sunshine and the playful mood of the city. Oh, if you're ever in Milano, this decadent treat is an absolute must-try. You will thank me later!
From Tutu to Travel!My life isn't all tutus, glamour, and cafes – there’s a touch of practicality woven into the mix, my lovelies. And you’re not wrong if you're thinking that’s what keeps this Pink Tutu girl grounded.
This week has involved quite a lot of travel and sightseeing, but not always with a pink tutu as my sidekick. Imagine a picture: me, bustling through Milano Centrale, my trusty rucksack on my back, eyes scanning the busy timetable. Oh, that sweet, nostalgic smell of stale coffee and freshly baked bread that hangs in the air – the smell of journey!
It was such a whirlwind of a day: boarding the sleek, gleaming red carriages, a flurry of travellers rushing to grab a seat, all united in their thirst for a new adventure. I absolutely love exploring cities by train! It’s a truly liberating experience, a chance to watch the scenery whizz past, lost in a world of my own, dreaming up my next tutu adventure.
But I don't just hop on trains - my explorations often take me on delightful journeys by tram! Milano is home to a fantastic tram network, with beautiful old vintage trams and modern electric ones zipping about like vibrant streaks of colour through the streets. They weave through the bustling city centre, past grand plazas, and quaint alleyways, offering the perfect glimpse into the true heart of Milanese life. And of course, even the local public transportation can't dampen my pink passion – I always manage to incorporate a little touch of tutu magic to each adventure!
The tram rides offer stunning panoramas of the cityscape. Oh, and I almost forgot – remember my pink polka-dotted tulle parasol? It's always in my luggage, just in case those unexpected showers decide to dampen my Italian adventures! This city can be surprisingly unpredictable – one moment sunshine, the next, a sudden downpour!
