Pink Tutu Milan: Post #900 - Wednesday, 2012-09-05

Ciao, darlings!

It's Emma here, back from the dreamy, chic, fashion-forward metropolis that is Milan! This week, my adventures in the fashion capital of the world were jam-packed with colour, culture, and of course, a generous sprinkle of pink tutu magic!

It's a little funny how Milan keeps on reminding me that you don't have to be in a grand theatre to experience a dazzling ballet performance. From a vibrant street performance by some amazing dancers to a casual stroll through the park where the local ballet classes were in full swing, every day felt like a miniature stage production!

This past week in Milan, I fell absolutely head over heels for the glorious Duomo – an architectural masterpiece that has got to be seen to be believed! I think I spent at least an hour simply gazing up at the intricate spires and delicate sculptures, lost in their beauty. But let's be real, darling, even a fabulous building like the Duomo can't distract me from my one true love: tutus.

This week, my shopping trip led me to the Emporio Armani store – can you even imagine?! – and I must say, they did not disappoint. It was like walking into a dream! But here's the kicker: they didn't have one single pink tutu! Oh, the drama! Now, I'm not saying they didn't have beautiful pieces, mind you, they had plenty, but they didn't have anything pink or tulle! I tried to explain to the rather bemused shop assistant that pink tutus were everything, but they just weren't getting it! They were adamant that there was nothing pink or fluffy to be found! My dearest tutus! Perhaps I'll have to try a different store next time. Maybe one with a little more, dare I say it, imagination.

However, all was not lost. A short trip on the delightful Milan tram, an experience I would definitely recommend if you're ever visiting, took me to the heart of a local community theatre. And wouldn't you know it, tucked away in a small shop window was a vibrant little ballet studio that offered classes, open days and performances! And even better, guess what colour tutu they were all sporting? You got it, darling: pink!

As you know, dear readers, it's my ultimate aim to get the whole world to embrace the power of a pink tutu! These Milanese ballet students are truly helping me make that dream a reality! So, without further ado, allow me to introduce you to the stunning talents of...

Il Teatro di Rosa:

  • The theatre was charming, cosy, and perfect for watching an intimate, enchanting ballet performance!

  • As soon as I entered the lobby, I was captivated by the colourful murals depicting ballet dancers in action – each of them, naturally, dressed in a gorgeous pink tutu. How lovely!

  • My eye was drawn to a poster showcasing the night's programme, featuring several short works by local dancers and choreographers!

  • Before the show began, the stage was bathed in the soft glow of a single spotlight. The air buzzed with anticipation – my heart was practically bouncing in my chest!

  • As the lights dimmed and the music started, it was almost as if a spell had been cast. It was such a magical moment.

The Performances:

  • "L'Albero di Rose," choreographed by a talented young dancer named Emilia, captured the delicate beauty of blooming roses and a gentle whisper of romance.

  • The breathtaking choreography in "Girotondo Celeste," inspired by a beautiful children's fairytale about a lost princess and a magical kingdom, left me speechless.

  • The third performance, "Passo Rosa," was a powerful and evocative piece that told the story of a lone dancer's journey of self-discovery – something we can all relate to, wouldn't you say, darling?

Each dance felt incredibly authentic, as though each movement flowed seamlessly from the depths of the dancers’ souls. I felt so captivated, as if I was transported to another dimension.

Milan's Ballet scene

After the performance, I was fortunate enough to meet Emilia, the choreographer, who spoke enthusiastically about the vibrant dance scene in Milan. "The energy is so lively and diverse," she told me. “It's incredible how people from all walks of life gather here to express themselves through ballet.”

I couldn't agree more, Emilia. Milan truly does feel like a melting pot of creative energy! The entire city seems to breathe ballet, and even though the traditional dance schools and studios are quite serious in their instruction and decorum, the dancers themselves are incredibly warm, approachable, and happy to share their passion for dance!

Oh, how I wish you could feel the energy of Milan too! But until then, remember darling: pink tutus for everyone! It's not just a style, it's a lifestyle! It's about bringing a little magic to every day, from your wardrobe to your soul. And for those of you still wondering, yes, pink tutus can be super chic – just look to Milan as inspiration!

It's been an exhilarating week in the beautiful city of Milan! But that's all for this time, dear readers! Join me again next Monday for a fresh batch of pink tutu-inspired stories and musings, this time straight from Paris! Remember to follow my journey and my mission of spreading pink tutu magic around the world! Au revoir, darlings, until next week!
