Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 2012-09-19 – A Pink Paradise!

Hello my gorgeous ballet bunnies!

It's Wednesday, the middle of the week and guess what? This week, your favourite pink-loving ballerina is in Milano, Italy! That’s right! This beautiful city, known for its stunning architecture, delicious food, and of course, a rich history in fashion, art, and oh, did I mention the fashion? has welcomed me with open arms and a heaping dose of la dolce vita.

I'm just bursting with excitement to share my adventures with you in this vibrant metropolis, and I have a feeling this post will be a doozy!

It’s amazing how life takes you on these whirlwind adventures, isn’t it? Remember my post last week about performing in a ballet show back home in Derbyshire? Well, that performance helped fund my next big trip, which is where I am right now - a pink tutu paradise! This time, instead of the elegant theatre halls I'm accustomed to, it's the charming streets of Milano where my dancing shoes are taking me.

And who better to accompany me on this whirlwind tour of a fashion city? Why, none other than my trusty pink tutu! Oh, it's just divine. My little fluffy ballerina companion - with its playful ruffles and shimmering tulle – is such a showstopper here. It seems like everyone is admiring my ensemble, especially when I pirouette across the piazza.

So what’s on the agenda for Emma today in Milano?

This afternoon, I'm headed to a ballet class at the prestigious Scuola di Ballo right in the heart of Milan. The Scuola di Ballo has been the training ground for some of the world's most renowned ballet dancers. Can you imagine training alongside legends? Oh, to step into those studios and feel the echoes of such extraordinary talent! This class, I'm hoping, will provide some divine inspiration, plus maybe a few new moves for my next performance. And don’t you worry – I’ll be sure to update you on the latest ballet trends in my next post.

A touch of pink to liven up the day:

Speaking of inspiring trends, I can’t even tell you about all the amazing pink fashion I’ve found already in Milano! Did you know the colour pink was once considered only a shade for girls and women, and its meaning evolved? How fun is that?

Pink is simply the most charming and fun colour - perfect for my pink tutu! The colours and shades of pink here are truly intoxicating. We have pale pinks, hot pinks, even coral pinks - pink is a must-have! You can bet I'm going to snag a few stunning new pieces while I'm here, and you’ll be the first to see my spoils.

This morning I had an hour to explore some boutiques in the Via della Spiga. Talk about retail heaven. They had everything from elegant designer bags (that's another of my loves - beautiful handbags! The craftsmanship here in Italy is just divine), beautiful clothing, to shoes you simply wouldn't believe. Even the shop assistants wear the most fashionable clothes. Milano really lives up to its reputation for style.

You can also see the style in everything here - it’s a fashion fiesta! The way the local people dress! So effortlessly chic, with that Parisian chic, yet that distinct Italian flair. I love it, even the most practical pieces feel amazing and look divine on them.

This evening, I’m off to a performance. It’s a modern interpretation of Giselle - exciting! You bet I’ll have my camera ready and snapping away. And oh, did I tell you about my pink shoes?!

Pink tutu travel – Tram adventures!

What makes travel in Milano so much fun? The trams! The old-school tram system here is incredible. I mean, imagine hopping on a gorgeous old-style tram adorned with vibrant colours. This morning I travelled to the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II to marvel at the stunning stained-glass ceiling.

But that wasn’t the only treat! This morning’s tram ride was such a hoot. One of the locals told me to keep an eye out for the Milan Cathedral. I was told if I took a peek, I might see some beautiful sculptures, and I certainly did. All I had to do was stick my head out the window while the tram rolled gently down the street. I swear, the angels in the sculpture seemed to smile as I admired them. It's so easy to get lost in this city and find a thousand stories waiting in every nook and cranny. I simply love those trams, their colours and the rumble as they take you on a tour through history.

Now, you might be wondering, how do I travel so much on a dancer’s salary? Well, you could say I live for the passion! Of course, my love of dance and ballet takes me everywhere I need to go, with ballet performances my main source of funds. I simply love to perform and that brings me so much joy, especially seeing those happy smiling faces out in the audience. And I adore travelling too, with each new place teaching me a new story and bringing me a new experience!

Where to in Italy next?

This weekend is filled with excitement. I have tickets to see a fashion show for the new Italian design talent! It’s in this magnificent hall and oh, it's supposed to be jaw-dropping! After all, who can resist watching talented Italian designers display their artistry on the runway? So I'm going to witness the unveiling of a new collection of fashion by some exciting new designers, then get my dose of fashion, food, and, of course, shopping at Mercato Centrale, a haven for artisanal food and all kinds of delectable treats. The flavours of Italy are calling my name!
