Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 2012-10-03 - #904
Ciao bellas!
Emma here, back from a whirlwind of a day in Milan. And honestly? This city is just so pink tutu-friendly, I practically have to hold myself back from launching into a pirouette in every square.
Today marks my 904th post on the Pink Tutu blog! It's been quite a journey since I left Derbyshire, wearing my first ever pink tutu - all frills and fluff - on my way to my first ever ballet performance in the local village hall.
Now here I am in Milan, and if I’m honest? The sheer quantity of stunning architecture here is almost enough to make me ditch the tutus. Almost. Milan really does understand that fashion and drama belong together, and they both are in abundance here, all vying for your attention in a glorious visual extravaganza. The colours, the lines, the whole dramatic sense of space - Milan, you've stolen a little bit of my heart!
Let's get down to business: you’ve got to check out Teatro alla Scala! Oh, this place is magical, almost impossibly elegant, with an air of history and grandeur that sets your soul alight. This building is breathtaking - the outside a magnificent blend of Neoclassical architecture and marble that looks straight out of an Italian Renaissance fairytale. And once you’ve admired the outside, then there’s the inside! A stunning auditorium that holds memories of centuries of theatre and opera performances – you can literally feel the drama in the air. And of course, as a dedicated pink-tutu wearing ballerina, the place just makes my toes twitch with a need to dance!
Morning – a Milan Tram Odyssey
The day kicked off with a delightful tram ride, that familiar feeling of rumble and clatter taking me across the city – such a joyful, carefree and colourful way to get around, don't you think? The sunlight streamed in, warming the fabric of my tutu. And there, right in front of me, was an old-style street corner cafe, all striped awnings, green metal tables and an inviting buzz of chatter. So of course I took a detour. The croissants, oh my goodness – utterly perfect, with just a touch of sweetness. I’m sure they had a dusting of powdered sugar on them, and that extra bit of heavenly texture is what makes a croissant sing, wouldn't you agree?
A Day for Fashion - Finding Milan’s Inspiration
After that little bit of bliss, it was time for the heart of my day - Fashion! I’ve always loved how Milan does fashion, a real passion for beautiful clothes. Not to mention all the gorgeous hats and gloves!
The sheer array of clothes - everything from chic leather jackets to the most beautiful silky blouses – is dizzying! But don’t get me wrong - I'm a woman of modest means, who doesn’t have a couture fashion budget to play with - it's the inspiration that I'm looking for here!
Every shop window tells a story - it's an amazing explosion of creativity. The colours, the styles, it's like walking through a living, breathing fashion magazine! Every detail is so well thought out.
Milan understands that fashion is a language - it’s not just about what you wear, but how it makes you feel. I spent the whole day just letting that fashion energy wash over me, savouring every glimpse, every new creation I saw in these shop windows. It was like being swept away in a whirlwind of textures and shapes, an experience as thrilling as it is uplifting!
Dinner - Where Italian Dreams Come True
You’ll be surprised, but despite being on a tight budget (who knew travelling could be so expensive!), I decided to indulge myself this evening! It’s not just a dinner, it’s a whole culinary adventure! I found a beautiful small restaurant, nestled amidst the bustle of a bustling, friendly, charmingly unkempt cobbled side street, a secret hideaway!
The menu is pure heaven: freshly baked bread that just melts in your mouth, a symphony of aromatic spices that dance in your nostrils before you’ve even taken a single bite, the succulent taste of freshly picked, bright green basil… a real symphony for your senses. The aroma and atmosphere, just make it a truly magical experience - the sort of magic that only Milan can provide. A touch of sparkle in a regular Tuesday night… that’s Milan for you.
Milan is Always Calling
Tomorrow, more fashion awaits – but I’ll tell you about that next week in my blog. But for now, let’s go out with a whirl, and let Milan spin its magic!
This is your friendly neighbourhood, Pink Tutu Ballerina, signing off. Don’t forget to wear a pink tutu! It makes everything so much more fun. xx
