Pink Tutu Milan - Post 914: A Twirling Adventure in the City of Fashion!

Wednesday, 12th December, 2012

Ciao, darling darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad traveller, Emma, writing to you live from the utterly fabulous city of Milan! This week's adventures have been a whirlwind of ballet, fashion, and fabulous food – it’s been truly sensational.

My journey began, as usual, with a hop onto a tram, a method of transport I absolutely adore. It's such a great way to soak in the city, taking in the charming views, and chatting to locals about their favourite pasta spots (a hot topic for me, I can tell you). Today, I’m sitting by the window of a beautiful cafe near the Duomo, a large latte with a generous cloud of frothy milk keeping me warm and inspired.

The energy of Milan is just...magnetic! This week's highlight was definitely the La Scala Opera House, one of the most famous opera houses in the world, and absolutely buzzing with theatrical life. The moment I stepped into the grand hall, I felt a buzz of anticipation – the smell of rich velvet, the shimmer of crystal chandeliers, and the sound of distant rehearsals. It felt so cinematic.

For my first time in Milan, I booked myself a ticket to the Swan Lake ballet. I absolutely love a good classical performance! Watching the graceful ballerinas twirling under the dazzling chandeliers, their pink tutus a blur of vibrant colour, was such a delight. And don't even get me started on the gorgeous costumes and breathtaking sets!

Now, this trip isn’t all about ballet, though! I’ve been a true fashionista and found myself wandering through Milan's glamorous streets. The fashion here is divine, darlings. It’s all so sleek and sophisticated. It’s practically impossible not to feel utterly inspired by the sleek silhouettes, bold colours and effortless glamour. I even popped into one of the grandest designer shops in the city (the name begins with G… but you wouldn't catch me gossiping!) and bought myself a little something to treat myself to (it’s going to be the perfect pink tutu for a Parisian waltz, you'll just have to wait and see!)

After a day of glamorous wandering, there’s no better place to rest my dancing shoes than at one of the cosy Italian restaurants in the city. It wouldn't be a true Milan experience without trying out a heaping plate of ravioli with rich truffle sauce (it's a treat I simply can’t resist!). It's the perfect balance between my ballet training and my appreciation for delicious things.

Oh! And did I tell you about my discovery of a fantastic vintage clothing shop in a charming alley? I snagged a pair of pristine white gloves and a beautiful velvet scarf – you see, the elegance never stops! They'll go perfectly with my favourite blush pink tutu for my upcoming performances!

Speaking of which, I'm feeling particularly inspired after watching the breathtaking choreography in Swan Lake! I've been hitting the practice studio in my new studio-friendly outfit, (a grey and white patterned leotard that lets my tutu be the true star!). You just wait till you see my next ballet street performance - I have some fabulous plans that’ll bring a little bit of magic and glamour to the streets of Derbyshire!

But it's time to go for now, my lovelies! I have so much to explore here in Milan, including catching the captivating spectacle of a theatre performance at La Scala on Thursday! Don't forget, I'm posting my weekly adventures to www.pink-tutu.com every Monday, so come and say hello.

Until next time, twirl with happiness,

Emma xoxo
