Pink Tutu Milan #1032 - 18th March 2015: Ballet Dreams and Tram Adventures
Ciao bella! This is your resident pink tutu enthusiast, Emma, reporting live from the fashion capital of the world – Milano! I’m here for a whirl through Milan's ballet scene and let me tell you, this city has truly stolen my heart (and maybe a few outfits from some very swanky shops!)
The sun is shining, the air smells of freshly baked bread (heaven!), and my pink tutu is twirling with glee – because today, darlings, we’re talking ballet, fashion, and all things delightful in Milan.
As you know, I always like to keep my posts fun and flirty, just like my pink tutus. This week is extra special, as I’ve finally achieved my goal of performing for a whole week in the gorgeous Teatro alla Scala! And just to top it off, there’s a spectacular performance of "Giselle" tonight, and I can barely contain my excitement!
I have to confess, arriving in Milan by train was a little daunting - the platform felt a little chaotic! But I quickly found my bearings, even managed to fit in a spot of shopping for a new pink tutu at a fab boutique just off the station. (You know me - I just can't resist a sparkly pink!)
I absolutely adore riding the Milanese trams – the vintage carriages and the clickety-clack sounds take me back to a time when life was simpler and a tutu was the ultimate statement. And who can resist the delicious smell of coffee wafting through the open windows? My inner ballerina loves the feeling of the tram’s rhythmic motion as we glide along, swaying and gliding.
Speaking of graceful glides, yesterday I got to see La Scala in all its glorious grandeur for the first time. It was the perfect mix of classical elegance and architectural magnificence, a true palace for the arts. The feeling inside was electric, a shared passion for dance rippling through the auditorium as I admired the incredible, swirling details of the building. It was like being transported back to another era - pure enchantment!
Of course, no visit to Milan is complete without exploring its iconic fashion scene. So this morning I took a little detour from the ballet studios to the Duomo, with its incredible architecture. Just picture this – a vibrant sky above, a flurry of shoppers whizzing past, and me twirling in my signature pink tutu, admiring the elegant details of the cathedral.
It was pure fairytale bliss. The entire city felt alive, a whirlwind of art, creativity, and beautiful, bold fashion choices – exactly what my fashionista heart desires. As I wandered down Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, I even spotted a pair of fabulous, feathered pink shoes at a window display - and I know just where I’ll be heading tomorrow afternoon for some shopping therapy!
Today, I spent the afternoon catching up with my dearest friend, Sofia, at the grand Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. She is a stunning dancer who inspires me. We chatted and caught up, with our shared passion for ballet fueled by creamy hot chocolates at one of the café’s that line the Galleria.
This evening, my friends, is the highlight of the week. I can't wait to step onto the stage, my heart beating with the same rhythm as the beautiful music of the orchestra. This performance has been months in the making, and I know it'll be pure magic, both for me and the audience.
There is so much more I want to share with you all about Milan - the cafes, the art galleries, the little shops tucked away on charming cobblestone streets. But right now, I must prepare for my big night. I know I’ll be glowing from within with that excitement we all feel before a big performance - that mixture of butterflies and fierce joy.
And tomorrow? We'll chat all about "Giselle" - the costumes, the dancing, and all those magical details you won’t see from the audience. Plus, a little peek into my pink tutu's Milanese fashion haul, if you are a good girl, and maybe, if I feel extra chatty, even a recipe for my favourite Italian treat - tiramisu!
But for now, darling readers, please stay tuned. And never stop dreaming big. Remember, your life is an enchanting stage and the world is waiting to watch you shine.
Until next week, Emma xo
