Pink Tutu Milan: Post #1120 - Wednesday 2016-11-23
Ciao bella!
It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing blogger, reporting live from Milan! As always, I'm living the dream, which this week includes strolling the cobblestone streets, taking in the breathtaking architecture, and indulging in some truly exquisite Italian gelato. My trusty pink tutu is of course in tow, twirling with me as I explore this fabulous city.
This week's Milan adventure is a whirlwind of ballet, fashion, and all things beautiful. You all know how much I love discovering new ballet schools and shows, and this trip has been no exception. The sheer passion for the art form here in Milan is intoxicating! I feel so lucky to be able to soak it all in.
Tuesday Night Magic at Teatro alla Scala
I started this adventure in style with a trip to the iconic Teatro alla Scala, one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world. Tuesday night brought a captivating performance of "La Traviata" by Verdi, a breathtaking symphony of drama, music, and artistry. You just can't get that level of performance anywhere else.
After the performance, I stepped into a bustling cafe near the Teatro, its aroma a delicious mix of coffee, pastries, and Italian gossip. The chatter around me seemed to buzz with excitement from the show. They clearly appreciated the artistry and passion that shone on that grand stage. I savored a latte and a decadent pastry, feeling the afterglow of the show still tingling in my soul.
Finding Ballet Gems in Milan's Secret Corners
But my search for Milanese ballet treasures doesn't end at the grand Teatro alla Scala. Yesterday, I embarked on a quest to uncover the hidden gems of Milan's ballet scene. A tip from a fellow tutu-wearing friend led me to a small, charming ballet school nestled in a quiet corner of the city. It was a world away from the grandeur of La Scala, yet full of its own kind of magic. The air buzzed with the dedication of young dancers, and the space was filled with the sound of rhythmic steps and the delicate twirling of bodies in motion.
Watching them practice their pirouettes and leaps reminded me of why I love ballet so much. It's about more than just fancy costumes and impressive technique, it's about the raw passion and dedication of its practitioners, a passion I felt radiating from those young dancers in Milan. It was so inspiring, I even did a few pirouettes of my own in the little courtyard outside.
Milan Fashion Finds – A Ballet Inspired Symphony of Style
And of course, no trip to Milan would be complete without a little fashion shopping! I'm absolutely addicted to the sheer vibrancy and creativity of Milan's fashion scene. The boutiques here are brimming with statement pieces that scream "flair" and "dare to be different", which aligns perfectly with my love for ballet's inherent drama and visual storytelling.
I snagged a stunning vintage silk scarf in shades of amethyst and emerald green – it instantly reminded me of a costume I saw in the “Swan Lake" ballet I saw in the city earlier this year. My purse now proudly houses a limited edition clutch inspired by "Sleeping Beauty". Let's just say, my love for pink is blooming here!
My pink tutu even found a new partner-in-crime in Milan – a gorgeous, feather-light, emerald green dress that feels like a ballerina's dream. I can just picture myself twirling in the center of a stage in this masterpiece, the fabric flowing around me like a ballet skirt. It’s certainly something I’ll be dancing in next week!
Trams, Trains, and Ballet Dreams
And let's not forget about the sheer joy of riding through the heart of Milan on those beautiful, old tramways! It’s one of my favorite parts of travelling. They glide effortlessly through the city, a symbol of vintage elegance. I love peering out the windows, observing the everyday life of the city - mothers with strollers, couples in love, street performers with guitars, business people on their way to meetings – all blending seamlessly together.
And of course, my commute gives me the perfect chance to plan my next adventure. Every new destination presents a whole new ballet story waiting to unfold – maybe a traditional theatre performance, a street performance on the streets of Milan, a backstage glimpse into a world-renowned school... Or maybe even a dance class or two! I just know this pink tutu will have me twirling all around!
I even caught the train back to my Derbyshire hometown in a flash of pink tutus, inspiring fellow passengers to consider bringing a bit of this colourful world into their daily lives. After all, that's the magic of my blog, it's a call for joy, individuality, and a dash of whimsy in this sometimes-ordinary world.
So stay tuned for next week’s blog, fellow tutu-wearers. I'm planning some fabulous activities, some delicious meals, and maybe even a surprise ballet lesson or two!
Until then, keep on twirling!
XOXO
Emma
