Pink Tutu Milan: #1157 - Ciao Bella!

Wednesday 9th August, 2017

Ciao bella! Emma here, reporting live from Milan, the fashion capital of the world! As you all know, I adore pink, I adore tutus, and I adore a good dose of fashion inspiration - and there’s nowhere better to soak it all in than here, in the vibrant heart of Italy. This week has been a whirlwind of sequins, cobblestones and an embarrassing amount of gelato, but don’t you worry, I wouldn’t have it any other way!

It’s a gorgeous summer morning in Milan. The sun is already beaming down, turning the cobbled streets into a shimmer of warm light, and even the pigeons are strutting their stuff like they’re on the Milan Fashion Week runway! This morning, after a truly divine breakfast of cappuccinos and croissant (one of which I've managed to sneak into my handbag for later!), I spent an hour or so at a gorgeous little ballet studio right by the Duomo. The instructor, a charming Italian with an amazing knowledge of the art, made us work hard, but it was just what I needed to energise my brain and body.

My afternoon was all about exploring Milan's fascinating artistic soul! A trip to the Teatro alla Scala was definitely on the cards this week, it’s simply a MUST-SEE when in Milan. Standing inside its grand theatre, surrounded by a symphony of historical magnificence, feels almost spiritual. You can really sense the incredible energy of generations of ballet stars dancing those very boards. And speaking of stars, tonight I have tickets to see the spectacular “La Traviata”, one of Verdi's greatest works, at the Teatro alla Scala. Can’t wait!

You’d think that a Derbyshire girl like me, having travelled so far from home, would be overwhelmed by the cosmopolitan hustle and bustle of Milan, but not at all! Honestly, I feel right at home here, like a fish in a shimmering, sparkly fishbowl. It’s amazing what you can achieve if you simply believe. And my belief this week is, to get everyone wearing a pink tutu!

For those of you who don’t know me, I'm Emma, and for as long as I can remember, I’ve always had this burning passion for pink tutus, all things ballet, and well, simply looking fabulous while doing it!

A couple of years ago, I decided to turn my dream of dancing and travelling the world into a reality! Now, I spend my time jet-setting to exciting destinations like Milan, dancing for my living and writing all about my adventures here on Pink Tutu.

The Beauty of the Ballet Life

It wasn't easy leaving my cosy Derbyshire life, my friends, and my familiar routine. I missed those crisp mornings in Derbyshire, the cosy country pubs with their crackling fireplaces, and the heartwarming feeling of being part of a tight-knit community. However, life is an adventure, and it wouldn't be an adventure without a few risks, wouldn't you say?

Of course, there have been moments when the ballet world seemed daunting, and sometimes I do miss those comfy evenings curled up with a cup of tea and my favourite novel. But it’s honestly amazing how much you can discover and learn when you take a leap of faith. Being a ballerina isn’t all pink tutus and glitz, it’s about strength, determination, and endless hours of practice. But it's worth it, every single second!

The feeling of freedom when I step onto a stage, the rush of adrenaline coursing through my body, and the knowing smiles I exchange with fellow dancers, they are simply indescribable.

And that’s what I love most about being a ballet dancer – that feeling of belonging. Sharing my passion with others, encouraging everyone to wear a pink tutu (maybe even a Derbyshire lad!) – it’s truly fulfilling.

Milan's Enchanting Magic

I feel so very fortunate that ballet, the thing that makes my heart sing, also allows me to travel to stunning places like Milan.

Every city, every town, and even every corner holds its unique charm. You know how some people can sense a special vibe, like magic in the air? Well, Milan has that vibe down to a fine art!

You only have to step outside the door to discover it – the bustling cobblestone streets, the grand architecture, and those delicious, heady aromas that float around in the air (gelato, pizza, and my favourite, that rich, heady smell of freshly-brewed coffee). It's a true sensory feast! And don't even get me started on the incredible fashion scene - it's simply dazzling!

Travel by Tram: A Whirlwind Through Milan's Beauty

When it comes to getting around Milan, my favourite mode of transportation is, without a doubt, the iconic red tram! There’s nothing quite like feeling the gentle rumble as you roll past vibrant city streets, soaking up the beautiful sights. The trams weave through narrow streets lined with charming shops and cafes, revealing glimpses of historic architecture.

And let me tell you, those views from the tram windows – they are truly breathtaking!

From the grandeur of the Duomo to the stylish Milanese streets, to the enchanting Duomo with its majestic towers reaching for the sky, every journey by tram becomes a beautiful ballet performance in its own right!

The Magic of Ballet in Milan

For me, Milan is more than just a stunning city. It’s a true haven for anyone who loves the world of ballet. Just walking around the streets, you see the incredible passion that this city has for this art form, with a dedicated ballet studio at almost every corner, it’s hard to believe.

And of course, the most spectacular thing of all is the iconic Teatro alla Scala. This theatre is simply a magnificent, elegant landmark and the heart of Milan’s rich musical history. To walk those hallowed floors, feel the thrill of a live performance in this extraordinary venue – it’s a feeling you never forget!

My advice for you? If you find yourself in Milan, don’t even think twice – treat yourself to a show at the Teatro alla Scala. It’s pure magic. And if you're feeling adventurous (and fashion-forward), try visiting the Opera’s museum to experience an immersive journey into the fascinating world of music and theatre!

Fashionable Finds in Milan

Of course, no trip to Milan is complete without a healthy dose of shopping!

Now, you know I adore my pink tutus, but Milan is the ultimate playground for anyone who wants to explore the latest trends and indulge their inner fashionista. From high-end boutiques to hidden independent shops, there’s something for everyone.

My shopping motto is, if it makes me feel beautiful and confident, then I know it’s a keeper! And Milan certainly delivered on that front! From gorgeous silk scarves in vibrant colours to those beautiful, intricate jewellery pieces that scream Milanese sophistication, I found it all here.

A Pink Tutu for Every Occasion

For all my lovely readers, it goes without saying – you should embrace a bit of the “Pink Tutu" life every single day!

Whether you choose to wear a pink tutu to a ballet performance, to a glamorous night out, or even just for a cheeky stroll through your local park, you know it’s always a good choice. Pink tutus make life more beautiful! It's that simple.

Don’t forget, everyone, it's all about embracing our uniqueness and celebrating that inner glow, whether we’re dancing on stage or simply stepping out our front door!

My Pink Tutu Motto

Here's my little pink tutu motto:

Live every day like it's a performance. Twirl, sparkle and radiate joy – you've got this!

And now, off I go to enjoy "La Traviata"!

Until next time, bella! Remember, keep sparkling!

Yours, in Pink Tutu and high heels,

Emma www.pink-tutu.com
