Pink Tutu Milan - #1161 - Wednesday 2017-09-06

Buongiorno, darlings!

It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed travel blogger, reporting live from Milan! I'm absolutely buzzing because today's been a real whirlwind of pink-hued delights, proving once again that this fabulous city is the ultimate haven for tutu-lovers, fashionistas, and all things fabulous.

Let me start with a confession: I’m a bit obsessed with Milan. Seriously, how can you resist the charm of cobbled streets, chic boutiques, and a history rich with art, architecture, and of course, a strong affinity for dance? This week has been a bit of a blur, and I can't wait to share all the fun with you, but first, let's dive into today's adventure.

My morning kicked off with a very special treat: an invitation to the Teatro alla Scala to see a ballet rehearsal. I am a huge ballet fan and am utterly obsessed with the way dancers translate feeling and emotion into every plié, pirouette, and jeté. It’s something that never gets old. And seeing this famous theatre filled with the buzz of preparation just makes the magic feel that much more tangible!

Teatro alla Scala, or the Scala Theatre, is one of the most famous opera houses in the world. This neoclassical gem with a truly stunning facade has graced the heart of Milan for over 200 years. I can only imagine the history that its walls hold. Can you just imagine all the brilliant operas, operas and ballerinas who have danced here?! Sigh. Anyway, back to the rehearsal. As a total ballerina nut, this was a real highlight of the day. The energy, the focus, the incredible athleticism… I’m simply blown away by the talent of the dancers. The costumes were absolutely exquisite - delicate chiffons in pale pinks, soft pastel blues, and of course, lots of sparkling white tutus. I really should consider making a trip down to the costumiers, and see if I can't snag some sparkly delights for my wardrobe!

Then it was back on the Tram, weaving through the city's intricate maze of cobblestone streets, and onto the Piazza del Duomo, a truly enchanting space with the majestic Duomo di Milano taking centre stage. It’s not just a cathedral - it’s a gothic masterpiece, intricately sculpted and topped with towering spires.

I can't visit Milan without treating myself to some shopping. And with such beautiful window displays and such fabulous independent boutiques, Milan is an absolute joy to explore! I’ve been particularly taken by the quaint, historic shops of the Brera district. Here you can find exquisite leather goods, beautifully crafted homeware, and some genuinely interesting pieces for my wardrobe!

One of the boutiques I had to visit was “Mastrolilli,” an incredible jewellery shop on Via Fiori Oscuri. It's crammed full of shimmering, sparkling jewels that are all designed and made on the premises. As a sucker for sparkly things, this was truly a dream come true!

Of course, the Piazza del Duomo also provided me with ample opportunities for some serious “pink-tutu posing.” Let's just say, Milan is such an effortlessly elegant city. It’s like you've been invited to a glamorous fairytale, with the whole world serving as your stage. So of course, my tutu was the perfect accompaniment!

I had a wonderful dinner later that evening at "Vecchia Malcesine," a charming traditional Milanese trattoria nestled in the heart of Brera. The owner was such a delight - he showed me all the most recent paintings done by his artist wife and explained the history behind them. This place feels like a real gem - and their pumpkin tortellini was simply divine!

The day came to a close with a beautiful, breezy stroll along the Navigli. The Navigli - or canals - are so pretty and have an atmosphere all of their own. A series of canals crisscrossing the city - they used to be a crucial trading route, but today are perfect for relaxed riverside strolls and evening cocktails, enjoying the beautiful views of the old city. It’s not hard to see why this is one of Milan's most popular spots. I can see why the Navigli are so beloved by Milan’s locals. I had the most gorgeous walk, taking in the evening views and dreaming about pink tutus with matching cocktails!

So, how about those ballet dreams? The amazing energy from the Teatro alla Scala has certainly got my toes tapping. Maybe a pink tutu class tomorrow? Or even a session at "Teatro alla Scala"? What a glorious prospect! And speaking of ballerinas... have you all seen “The Nutcracker?” This ballet, set in the run-up to Christmas, with sugar plum fairies and snow queens - it's truly the best way to get into the festive spirit. Just picturing the magic of Christmas decorations, twinkling lights and the delicate ballerinas is enough to fill me with excitement for the holidays to come. I've found a few beautiful productions on the stage, so my ballet dreams might just become reality very soon!

Now, you’ve heard me gush about pink tutus all week long - and believe me, when I tell you - every single day is better with pink tutus in your life! They really do bring magic wherever they go. This pink tutu life truly makes everything sparkle, even more so in the beauty and glamour of Milan!

That's all for this week, my lovely ballet-loving friends. Remember, don't be afraid to wear your tutu to that special event, or just your everyday. The magic starts when you’re ready! And, let’s face it - pink is definitely the happiest colour.

I'll be back next week with more pink-tutu adventures, beautiful ballet moments, and delicious Italian treats. Don't forget to follow me on www.pink-tutu.com!

Arrivederci!

Emma
