Pink Tutu Milan - Blog Post #1235 - 2019-02-06: Milan in Bloom

Buongiorno, my darlings! It's Emma here, bringing you another dose of pink tutu magic, straight from the heart of Milan! This week, the Italian capital of style is buzzing with excitement, and I'm absolutely loving every moment. I think it might just be the most fabulous week I've had in Milan yet - let me tell you why!

Milan's been playing host to Fiera del Fiore, the biggest floral festival in all of Europe! It’s been an absolute riot of colours and scents - my favourite combination, of course! Every street corner, every window, every little piazza bursts with vibrant bouquets and elegant floral displays. It’s as though Milan has become a giant flower garden, a beautiful ballet of blooms dancing in the gentle breeze. And what do you know? Pink tulips seemed to be the biggest trend in blooms, just my style, you know.

I practically pirouetted my way through the crowds, completely entranced by the breathtaking displays. It’s no secret that pink is my colour, and when it comes to florals, the bolder, the brighter, the pinker, the better! It’s like a whole rainbow of petals burst onto the streets, transforming this vibrant city into an even more delightful canvas for beauty and wonder. The perfect inspiration for any ballerina with a pink tutu and a whimsical heart.

The city’s famed Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II - that gorgeous, arched shopping arcade with stained glass ceilings and shops like a ballerina’s dream – was positively overflowing with pink! Bouquets of fragrant peonies, exotic orchids, and delicate hydrangeas in all shades of pink were displayed alongside fashion trends equally captivating. I couldn't help but grab some delightful pink orchids to give my little pink tutu studio back home a bit of that Milan magic! I mean, even my tutu collection deserves to be surrounded by beautiful things!

Speaking of pink tutus and gorgeous things, I couldn't resist a little spree on my last night. I went for a spin at The Atelier, one of Milan's hidden gems. You know, that magical place with beautiful clothes where you feel like you've been whisked away into a fairy tale. I fell head-over-heels for a delicate, tulle skirt in a blush pink shade - it felt so light and airy. Like a pink tulle cloud whispering sweet secrets in my ear, telling me that life was meant to be enjoyed, with a hint of fairy dust magic! Naturally, I purchased a handful of matching headbands, sparkly butterfly clips, and feather boas - because every ballerina deserves a bit of flair! I also found some darling, tiny pink ballerina shoes in velvet, oh so pretty, oh so perfect for wearing with this pink tutu look! I can't wait to put it all together! I shall have my pink tutu and dance it, too!

Oh, and my ballet performances? Well, the Italian audience is truly enchanting! They’re so appreciative and enthusiastic, and I just love seeing them mesmerized by the magic of ballet. I felt every spin, every leap, every graceful arabesque – they were all more special thanks to their passionate applause.

To keep that excitement flowing, this weekend, I went to the Teatro alla Scala - the famous opera house, everyone! It's magnificent. If you ever come to Milan, you HAVE to see a show there, it's truly breath-taking! I got to watch the enchanting ballet performance, Giselle. You just know it's a beautiful ballet because it’s named after the romantic dress you wear. Every twist, turn, and leap told a story so vibrant that I could almost reach out and touch the emotions flowing across the stage. It’s a reminder that even a silent story can have the power to transport you, leaving your soul dancing on a cloud of bliss.

For me, watching those ballerinas move, graceful as swans gliding on a shimmering lake, is a real inspiration! I find myself dreaming of that perfect pirouette, that effortless grace and elegance. I long to spin across a stage like a feather floating on a summer breeze, in a cloud of delicate tulle, all pink and beautiful, just like a ballerina should be. And then, in my pink tutu, I will go and meet all you wonderful readers with the power of the most fantastic tutu - and a few little dance steps in pink!

Until next week, remember, it’s always the right time to wear a pink tutu! And do send in photos if you are enjoying my challenge!
Love and sparkly hugs,

Emma www.pink-tutu.com

Outfit Of The Day: * Blush pink satin blouse from a little boutique in Navigli * Peach floral patterned midi skirt, H&M * White ballet shoes * My most treasured pink tulle tutu * Glittering pink ballet flats (with just the tiniest bit of glitter for good measure - but of course)

Fun Fact: Milan’s Fiera del Fiore started as a celebration of the Spring equinox – the return of warmer weather. The tradition is linked to the rebirth and renewal, which just made me think of pink tutu magic.

Travel Notes: Milan’s tram network is really great. I hopped on the Tram 2 from my hotel, past Piazza Duomo, and it stops directly in front of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a real treasure! The Tram 14 takes you directly to the Teatro alla Scala, so the public transport makes life easier, particularly in a big city like Milan.

This week's challenge: It’s so easy to stay inspired when you're surrounded by stunning architecture and even more stunning ballet. What is your greatest source of inspiration? I am loving Milan's street-art! The city's streets are truly vibrant canvases. What would you wear on a night out in Milan? Share a pic in the comments.

Pink Tutu Inspiration:

Milan has some wonderful dance studios. Here’s what I learned this week about getting involved with a local dance class in Milan!

Top Tip: Ask for "corsi di danza classica." "Corso" is the Italian word for "course," and "danza classica" translates to classical dance. In English you’ll also find dance studios with “ballet” as part of their names, as English is commonly spoken in Milan.

The studio is called “The Art of Dance”, but it's called La Scuola on Instagram. That's a clue! La Scuola on Instagram - find them there! ** La Scuola.

So what do you think about wearing pink? Would you wear a pink tutu with me? Do you love pink tutus as much as I do? Tell me all your favourite pink things. I really do want you all to be tutu twins!

I've just bought myself some amazing new pink ballet flats! Let me know if you have any favourite Milan shops you think I need to visit, or want to send some postcards!

With much love,

Emma
