Pink Tutu Milan: Post #1241 - Where Fashion and Ballet Dance

Ciao bella! It's your favourite Derbyshire lass, Emma, back with another post from the vibrant fashion capital of the world, Milan! Can you believe it’s Wednesday already? Time really does fly when you’re busy flitting from one glamorous shop to the next, sipping cappuccino in sun-drenched squares, and taking in stunning ballet performances, right?

This week has been a whirlwind of sequins and tutus, with enough tulle to satisfy even the most ardent fan of the fabric. So grab a cuppa, snuggle into something pink (of course!), and let's delve into the dreamy details of my latest Milanese adventures…

A Journey by Tram and Ballet in the Heart of the City

As usual, I started the week with a touch of elegance, stepping onto the tram, my pink tutu flowing behind me like a whimsical pink cloud. Milan’s trams are such a stylish way to navigate the city – sleek and efficient, gliding through the streets like elegant dancers in their own right. I had a very exciting destination in mind: the Teatro alla Scala!

For those who don't know, La Scala is considered one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world. Imagine a building so opulent, so stunning, it takes your breath away! It's a theatre filled with history and magic, with breathtaking chandeliers casting their shimmer over the stage.

This time, I was lucky enough to catch a truly unforgettable production of "Giselle." Oh, the emotion, the graceful movements, the sheer talent of the dancers! I found myself caught up in the story, the music, the drama of it all. You know, there's something truly magical about live ballet. It transcends language, it connects us to something profound and beautiful. And, let's be honest, tutus look especially glorious under the theatre spotlight!

Pink Tutu Power: A Shopping Spree!

No trip to Milan is complete without a little fashion therapy! The city is a treasure trove of stylish delights, from high-end boutiques to hidden vintage gems. I find the most incredible outfits that perfectly capture that delicate balance between ballet elegance and everyday chic. This week I fell in love with a beautiful blush-pink dress – you guessed it, tulle, of course – with delicate lace detailing that made me feel like a ballerina princess. It was a total impulse buy, but I can already imagine the envious glances I’ll get when I wear it to the next performance.

Then there’s the amazing accessory scene – delicate ballerina-inspired jewellery, statement shoes, elegant bags… I always manage to find a few unique treasures to take home with me, pieces that remind me of this magical city and the joy of dressing up!

A Glimpse into Milanese Life

But Milan isn't just about fashion and ballet, although it’s hard to imagine it any other way, isn’t it? There’s a beautiful soul to this city, one you find in its quaint cafés, buzzing markets, and vibrant street performances. I discovered a hidden gem this week: a tiny pastry shop with the most delightful treats. A sweet reward after my shopping spree!

I love how the locals effortlessly weave fashion, food, and culture into their daily routines. They have an energy about them, a joie de vivre that’s impossible to resist. They show me that life is meant to be savoured, every moment an opportunity for style and elegance.

Pink Tutu Power in Motion: Sharing the Love of Dance

This weekend, I’m excited to share my passion for dance by participating in a charity event! The local ballet school is hosting a "Ballet for a Cause," raising money to support a local arts organisation. Imagine a room filled with vibrant pink tutus, graceful movements, and an infectious energy of community. It’s going to be a wonderful celebration of dance and its power to bring people together.

Speaking of pink tutus, I'm really keen to see more people embrace the power of the pink tutu! I've had quite a few people come up to me on the streets of Milan, asking about the “pink tutu” style! Some have even joined my #PinkTutuRevolution, posting photos of themselves in their pink tutus on social media. It makes me so happy to see the impact of the pink tutu movement, to see it spreading the love for ballet, style, and positivity all over the world!

Pink Tutu Milan: A Reflection of Dreams

As I sit here in my favourite café, writing this blog post, surrounded by the charming chaos of Milan, I can't help but feel a sense of deep gratitude. My passion for dance has brought me to this magical city, where dreams come alive on stage and on the streets. It’s been a week filled with sunshine, smiles, and stylish moments that I will cherish forever.

Now, my dears, I'm off to chase the sunset and perhaps squeeze in one last round of ballet practice before I indulge in some well-deserved gelato! But before I go, I’ll leave you with a thought: Life, much like ballet, is about finding your own rhythm, embracing the elegance of every movement, and letting your true colours shine. And remember, there's no wrong way to wear a pink tutu. It's about having the confidence to embrace your inner ballerina and letting your own style blossom.

Until next week, keep dancing!

Love,

Emma

This Week's Milan Must-Dos:

For those of you planning a trip to Milan, here are some highlights from this week that you might want to add to your itinerary:

  • Teatro alla Scala: Catch a performance at the prestigious opera house, whether it's ballet, opera, or classical music. The sheer beauty and history of the theatre make for an unforgettable evening.
  • Salone del Mobile: The world-famous furniture fair is taking place this week, a design lover's paradise filled with cutting-edge innovations and beautiful craftsmanship. Check out the “Milan Design Week” events to see what’s happening and what exhibitions might interest you.
  • Milan Fashion Week: As Milan is known as a fashion capital, there is often a fashion show, and usually a number of shows, taking place! You can look at the Milan Fashion Week website to see what’s happening and book tickets for events. If you are there on Wednesday you may want to attend the "Emporio Armani" runway show – keep your eyes peeled for what trends they will introduce for the Autumn-Winter 2019 collection.
  • Duomo di Milano: Take a moment to admire the Duomo, Milan's stunning Gothic cathedral, and perhaps climb to the roof for breathtaking views of the city.
  • Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II: This stunning shopping arcade is an architectural masterpiece with world-class boutiques, cafés, and a fantastic view of the Duomo.
  • Naviglio Grande: Stroll along this charming canal, lined with picturesque restaurants, cafes, and charming shops. Enjoy the beautiful canals, a traditional evening stroll is a great thing to do with a loved one or friend, have some "aperitivo" by the water.

Pink Tutu Travel Tip:

Milan is a walker's city, but for those longer distances, opt for the efficient tram system, like me! The metro is also a good option. If you're feeling fancy, why not take a stylish vintage tram – perfect for capturing some truly iconic Milanese snaps!

Outfit Inspiration:

This week's outfit was inspired by the elegance and movement of ballet. I opted for a flowing pink tulle skirt, paired with a crisp white blouse and delicate ballerina-inspired jewellery. Add a touch of red lipstick, and you have the perfect outfit for a night at the opera or a chic stroll through Milan's fashionable streets!

Don't forget to tag your own #PinkTutuMilan photos!

I’m off to get my fill of gelato.

Love, Emma xxx
