Pink Tutu Milan: Post #1278 – December 4th, 2019: A Dance Through the City of Fashion

Ciao, darlings! Emma here, back from a whirlwind week in the glorious city of Milan, a haven for fashion, culture, and… well, let's be honest, delicious pastries. You know how I love a good croissant, and these ones are worthy of a whole new ballet routine!

As you know, my life is a pink tutu-clad journey across continents, chasing ballet, style, and all things lovely. This week, I traded the cobbled streets of Derbyshire for Milan's chic boulevards, ready to be swept away by the city's vibrant energy. I'll tell you what, the moment I stepped off the train, I felt the creative hum in the air – it’s infectious, this Italian energy.

This trip, I wanted to embrace the spirit of Milan, the city known for its elegant style and design. My mission? To find the perfect blend of classic elegance and whimsical tutu-ness. The Pink Tutu-clad wanderer in me knew that a good sartorial adventure was essential, so I grabbed my favourite oversized sunnies (with pink-rimmed accents, of course!), a chic pink knit top, and a flowing skirt that whispered the words 'fashion icon' with every twirl.

Oh, did I mention I snagged a magnificent vintage hat? A vibrant crimson creation with a feathery plume, practically begging to be twirled around with a flamboyant flourish. Yes, Milan had officially stolen my heart.

But, let's be honest, fashion isn't everything! My itinerary this week was a delicious blend of artistry, history, and delicious Italian bites. Let's get to it…

Milan’s Grand Dance Floor: A Ballet Adventure

As usual, ballet is at the heart of my travels. Milan's theatre scene is incredible – a testament to the city’s love for all things artistic and beautiful. I snagged tickets to La Scala, the most celebrated opera house in Italy and the envy of every opera buff around the globe. Stepping into that magnificent building felt like stepping back in time, surrounded by elegant velvet seats, breathtaking chandeliers, and intricate, gold-leaf decorations.

The performance was breathtaking – a flawless blend of graceful movement, heartfelt emotions, and costumes fit for royalty. A ballerina in a crimson and gold tutu captured my attention – a perfect vision of strength and elegance, her every pirouette a dance of pure beauty. You know me, I'm a huge fan of red – just as captivating and elegant as pink!

I swear, I held my breath for the entirety of the final act. I'm still dreaming of those stunning pas de deux and that hauntingly beautiful final note.

Trams, Trains, and Tiny Teashops

Travelling in Milan is a journey in itself. It's a delight to hop on a vintage tram and ride through the city’s historic streets. Every corner reveals a stunning building, from majestic cathedrals to charming Italian cafes – I even spotted a gorgeous little bookstore, brimming with vintage tomes and beautiful paperbacks.

Speaking of charming cafes, I indulged in one of Milan's favourite pastimes – enjoying a coffee (or ten) and watching the world go by. This city has the most gorgeous cafes – they’re small and intimate, a perfect place for people-watching and, naturally, capturing the perfect picture of my perfectly pink outfit!

My most memorable tea time happened in a hidden gem near the cathedral – a tiny tea shop nestled within a cobbled street, tucked away like a secret treasure. The aroma of fragrant teas wafted from its entrance, pulling me in like a siren’s call.

Imagine my delight when I discovered the most delicate selection of pastries and handmade macarons – their vibrant colours a feast for the eyes! I paired my pistachio macaron with a pot of green tea – pure heaven in a cup!

Shopping for My Tutu Dreams

And, what is a visit to Milan without a little retail therapy? Well, this tutu-clad explorer, darling, found herself in a sartorial heaven. I discovered streets teeming with designer boutiques and vintage shops, offering a veritable kaleidoscope of style. It was a truly inspiring fashion jungle – I found myself surrounded by flowing silk, chic leather handbags, and shimmering jewellery that set my heart aflutter.

You know me, I’m all about adding a touch of whimsy and glamour, so I indulged in a pair of statement earrings that twinkled like the starlit sky. A little bit of sparkle goes a long way, you know. But my favourite find? A delicate vintage scarf – hand-woven in a pastel pink that was practically screaming 'Emma, this is for you!' It was fate!

I think I finally found my new go-to scarf for when I'm twirling around the world in my trusty pink tutus!

Street Style, Italian Style

Let’s face it, Milan is a fashion mecca. Every corner bursts with colour, and the people’s individual style is incredibly inspiring. The Milanese women seem to have this innate sense of confidence and a touch of nonchalance about their fashion choices. It’s as if they are constantly creating a runway, whether they’re strolling through a park, catching the tram, or even just ordering a coffee!

I watched in awe as elegant women strutted by in timeless trench coats and bold sunglasses, while others embraced colour and flair with vibrantly patterned skirts and tailored jackets.

It made me want to dress up my trusty tutus with bold fashion statements – think statement jewellery, chunky boots, and vintage bags!

Pink Tutu Magic in Milan

Of course, as I explored the streets, I felt the magnetic pull to bring the pink tutu magic to Milan. It's a calling, darling! I've come to believe that a little bit of tutu magic can add a dash of joy and elegance to every corner of the world. I know you know, we don’t need a stage or a dance floor, every place can become our personal playground for creative expression.

On my journey through Milan, I was lucky enough to meet some inspiring people. I found kindred spirits – those who embrace a touch of whimsy in their own ways.

I encountered a street artist using colourful chalk to draw elaborate designs on pavements. His creations were like ephemeral masterpieces, transforming mundane grey into a burst of artistic energy. He was a perfect embodiment of Milan’s love for art and style.

And there was that incredible old lady I saw taking her pet pug for a stroll. He was wearing a little tweed jacket – no kidding! So stylish and dapper – truly a Milanese gentleman, don't you think? It reminded me, again, that it’s the little details that count.

Milan’s Legacy – A Lasting Impression

My trip to Milan was nothing short of extraordinary – a perfect blend of art, culture, and style. It was a reminder that true elegance is not just about designer labels, but about embracing a passion for life, creativity, and beauty.

Milan has left me inspired, ready to step out of my comfort zone, and maybe even take a fashion risk or two. You never know what kind of fabulousness might await around the corner!

Speaking of taking a fashion risk… this week’s Pink Tutu challenge for you: What would your signature "pink tutu" moment be? Tell me what outfit you’d wear or what bold fashion choice you’d embrace if you had the courage to wear a pink tutu – even just for a day. It's all about pushing those boundaries and celebrating your own unique style, my dears.

Leave your answers in the comments below, and don't forget to share your photos on social media! I'd love to see how you all channel your inner Pink Tutu wanderer!

Until next week, my darlings! Stay chic, stay sassy, and always, always remember – life’s too short to wear boring clothes.
