Emma here, your resident pink tutu-clad travel enthusiast, bringing you another burst of colour and grace from the fabulous city of Milan! Today, we’re diving into a whirlwind of glitter, gelato, and good vibes – all seasoned with a generous helping of ballet magic! 💖
I’m writing to you from my favourite corner table at Caffè Florian – an opulent cafe straight out of a fairytale, all marble and velvet with the scent of freshly-brewed espresso in the air. This morning, I found the most exquisite pair of pink ballet shoes – with feathers, imagine! - on a back street tucked away in a hidden vintage shop. So naturally, I had to treat myself to a cappuccino and some scrumptious Italian pastries while admiring them! 🍰☕️
Oh, and before I forget! Tonight, I’m heading to the Teatro alla Scala to see “Swan Lake”. I’m already so excited! It’s the first time I’ll be seeing the show in this incredible theatre. The red velvet seats, the gilded chandeliers, the atmosphere – I just know it’s going to be pure magic! I can hardly wait!
Speaking of magic, it’s hard to believe that just a few weeks ago I was bundled up in a cosy knit jumper and woolly tights in my Derbyshire home. Now, I’m basking in the winter sun, the warmth on my face just as pleasant as the warm breeze on a summer’s day. Milan has a unique charm that always captivates me, a blend of modern chic and historical beauty, like stepping into a page of a glamorous fashion magazine.
This city always delivers when it comes to a stylish ensemble! This week, I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect outfit for tonight’s performance. Let me tell you, my dear readers, the Italian style scene never disappoints!
My current favourites are the emerald green velvet coat with sparkling sequins and a pair of deep burgundy knee-high boots – the perfect touch of festive glamour for a ballet evening. And naturally, my trusty pink tutu is making an appearance!
Tram Dreams
Before my day of explorations, I took a delightful ride on the Milan tram – a magical mode of transportation that feels like a glamorous adventure! Imagine, hurtling through the city, observing the lively chaos on the streets from my pink-tutu-adorned window seat, feeling like a princess in a fairytale. A perfect way to experience the real heart and soul of Milan.
A Journey of Dance
This week has been all about dance and drama! Milan’s dance scene is brimming with life, and I’ve been so fortunate to see a few stunning performances!
First, I had a chance to see “Alice in Wonderland” performed by a young dance company. It was magical! Their movements were full of childlike joy and wonder, a delightful journey through the surreal world of the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat. You should have seen me – I was so enthralled! I practically pirouetted right into my seat.
Next, I went to a ballet street performance in Piazza Duomo. It was absolutely exhilarating to witness their elegant moves in the heart of the city! They performed amidst the buzz and hustle, bringing beauty and grace to the most unexpected spaces.
Oh, and did I mention the adorable couple who shared their homemade treats with me at a charming bakery? They made my afternoon so delightful. There's something so incredibly charming and heartwarming about sharing experiences and kindness with complete strangers, especially when fuelled by a love of all things sweet and pink.
Speaking of deliciousness, I’ve been experimenting with some scrumptious Milanese recipes, the best way to learn the real heart of a place! The flavour combinations and traditional methods are just heavenly, each dish bursting with vibrant colours and textures. Pink Tutu Goals: 🩰 💕
Of course, one of my favourite things to do in Milan is to browse the delightful boutiques and markets for all things pink! I've already found some lovely additions to my tutu collection, including a vintage lace shawl that perfectly matches my favourite ballet flats!
This weekend, I’m taking a day trip to Lake Como to escape the bustle of the city. The tranquil waters and picturesque scenery will make the perfect setting for some inspirational photoshoots, naturally with my favourite pink tutu! I'll be sure to post them on my Instagram page later this week, so follow along!
