Pink Tutu Milan #1346: Dancing Through the City of Fashion
Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, reporting live from Milan!
This week I’ve decided to ditch the plane for a bit and embrace the Italian way of travel: the tram and the train! It's been a glorious, sunshine-drenched day, and hopping on the red and white trams, with the gentle rattle and rhythm, has felt truly charming. Of course, I made sure to coordinate my pink tutu with the cherry blossoms lining the streets!
This week in Milan, my ballet heart has been thumping a little faster, thanks to the absolutely breathtaking program at the Teatro alla Scala. They're showcasing The Sleeping Beauty - what a dream! I mean, who can resist Tchaikovsky’s gorgeous music?
After the performance, I popped over to La Scala’s gorgeous cafe, a stunning space all mirrored and gleaming, for a cup of cappuccino (and maybe a little nibble of a delectable pastry - you know me!) and I could not have been happier. What a treat! The cafes in Milan really are something special.
But speaking of specials... Let's chat fashion, because it's a bit of a whirlwind here in Milan.
Fashion Flashing Pink!I just adore Milan! This city truly breathes fashion, from the fabulous flagship stores to the elegant street style. The boutiques are positively bursting with colour and excitement, and it's hard not to want to buy it all! Of course, I made sure to check out the newest Pinko collection. They're like the pink tutu sisters of the fashion world - a perfect match for me!
Oh, and I absolutely must share my new ballet shoes, which, thanks to a lucky sale at Aldo, are now twinkling in my collection. They are the most adorable shade of millennial pink (almost the perfect colour match to my signature tutu - I’m quite the pink perfectionist!). And you know I couldn’t resist picking up a gorgeous, silk, baby pink scarf – perfect for accessorizing!
Milan really does offer such a vast selection of amazing places to shop! If you are after luxury designer shops like Gucci, Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada or Ferragamo then there are plenty of options, and then you have the less expensive brands too, in amazing independent stores that give such charm and vibrancy to the streets.
Street Style SpotlightOh, speaking of charm and vibrancy! The Milanese street style is beyond amazing! I absolutely loved the vibe in Brera. Such artistic energy in the cobbled streets! It really feels like stepping into a painting.
I've been busy sketching outfits from all the beautiful ladies I've met – the most adorable polka dot skirts, fabulous florals, bold stripes... and of course, the gorgeous heels. And there is this beautiful, elegant air, to the Milanese woman’s style that is just captivating!
I’m already starting to see the trend emerge for Spring/Summer and I am definitely in love with the floral printed dresses I’ve seen everywhere. You could just spot a whole ballet troupe in a flurry of pinks and greens. Just add the perfect pink tutu for extra glamour, and everyone would think they were walking through a floral ballet performance!
Ballet Under the Milan SkyMilan isn't just about fashion and fashionistas; the city also boasts a thriving ballet scene, which is a real joy to discover! This weekend, I enjoyed an afternoon at the Teatro dal Verme, where a wonderful little ballet troupe were performing a beautiful modern piece. I could hear my favourite pink tutu whispering "Let's join them!"
The whole event was just delightful - it made my toes tap, and I could hardly sit still. The choreography was captivating! And the theatre itself, all draped with faded grandeur and ornate flourishes, felt utterly magical.
Ballet Bloggers Unite!I must also give a huge shoutout to all the amazing ballet bloggers I met this week. You all know how much I love connecting with my fellow dance enthusiasts, especially when we are sharing this wonderful city! It feels so incredible to be part of such a diverse and vibrant community, and I truly appreciate your support and encouragement!
We chatted, laughed, and exchanged pink tutu tips and tricks. Honestly, you girls are an absolute inspiration, and I can't wait to dance alongside you again soon.
Delicious Milanese DelightsWhat's a trip to Milan without trying some of its delicious cuisine? Now, you know me, I'm not much of a gourmand, so the lovely lady in my apartment has been teaching me about the delicious Italian cuisine.
The Italian love affair with pasta and pizza is one I definitely subscribe to. Oh my, what flavours! The simple, but wonderfully crafted dishes here really are the highlight. But the real treat? It's gelato. And oh, what a delight it is to sit by the canal, surrounded by the scent of freshly baked pastries, and taste a little of that melt-in-your-mouth sweetness! Pure perfection!
Oh! My lovely apartment building (in an iconic area of Milan - which, let’s just say involves more than a few marble staircases) happens to be next to a bakery – and I am starting to fear I am going to turn into a giant croissant, but this just means you are going to get plenty of updates from Milan, as my belly tells me, I am never leaving this city!
A Week in Pink Tutu MilanAs I head back to my little flat, surrounded by the magical pink hues of the sunset (it’s a good day for my signature shade) I’m feeling utterly enchanted. This week in Milan has been absolutely breathtaking, from the graceful dancers and delicious gelato, to the captivating fashion scene and bustling, life-filled streets!
Until next Monday, remember: dance like nobody's watching, embrace the pink, and never stop dreaming!
Lots of love,
Emma x
