Pink Tutu Milan: Post #1352 – 2021-05-05 - La Scala and a Spot of Shopping 🩰💖🇮🇹

Hello my darling dance devotees! It's Emma here, reporting live from the fashion capital of the world – Milan! And yes, you guessed it, I'm rocking my favourite pink tutu, of course! It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Milan adventure without it!

This week has been a whirlwind of culture, style and, most importantly, ballet! I started my Milan adventure on a particularly lovely Monday, and you know how much I adore a good Monday!

The tram journey from my Airbnb in the vibrant Brera district was like a Parisian dream, with its cobblestone streets, the occasional vintage car whizzing by, and those iconic tram tracks that make my heart sing. Milan just seems to exude a certain je ne sais quoi, a sense of glamour and sophistication that I absolutely adore.

A Taste of La Scala

Now, this wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Milan post without a trip to the magnificent La Scala opera house! It's an architectural marvel, just stunning, and my inner theatre buff was absolutely ecstatic! I couldn't resist snapping a few photos with my trusty pink tutu.

And what's a trip to La Scala without experiencing the magic of a performance? Today, we have a delightful treat – "La Traviata"! You simply can't beat the romance of Italian opera. I found myself getting swept away by the incredible voices and dramatic storytelling. And, let's be honest, I'm quite fond of a good Italian romance! 💖

Shopping Spree: Finding My New Ballet Wear

No trip to Milan would be complete without indulging in some fabulous fashion finds, so I hit the boutiques! Let me tell you, Milan is a paradise for any ballet enthusiast looking for that perfect leotard, skirt, or tights.

My new love affair? The Ballet Shop Italia in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The craftsmanship of the leotards was just exquisite, and their tutu collection – a ballerina's dream! It took all my self-control to limit myself to just a couple of stunning additions to my tutu collection.

I especially loved the silk leotard with a soft pink ombre that almost matched my tutu perfectly. The intricate details, the way it felt against my skin - just heavenly. This is my new "favourite-thing" and I can't wait to wear it during my next performance!

Street Style: Where Ballerina Chic Meets Milanese Glamour

You all know I'm obsessed with how fashion intersects with ballet. The style in Milan is out of this world! Think sleek and chic, effortlessly stylish. I particularly loved seeing a group of stylish ladies outside the Duomo, their tailored pantsuits with a hint of a dramatic flair. But my favourite was a woman dressed head-to-toe in red, sporting a little red ballet skirt! She rocked it! Maybe that was my inspiration, because guess what? The same day, I bought the cutest little pink ballet skirt! It's the perfect blend of Parisian chic and classic ballet. Now, my London and Derby tutu fans are all going to be very jealous!

I also love finding those little hidden gems of independent stores in Milan. They often have those quirky, unique items that really stand out, like vintage shoes or handmade bags that wouldn't look out of place in a vintage film. And when I spotted that little boutique window full of gorgeous tulle skirts with all shades of pink, well, let's just say I'm ready for some dramatic ballet poses in a Milanese piazza!

From Performance to Travel

My favourite thing about Milan is its convenient transportation. You can easily hop on the tram and navigate through the bustling streets or jump on a train to explore beyond the city. I've discovered this hidden oasis just a few hours from Milan – a picturesque lakeside town called Bellagio, with its breathtaking views of Lake Como. Imagine me, in my pink tutu, gracefully traversing the bustling city or a charming lake town – just another day in the life of your Pink Tutu Ballerina!

The Power of a Pink Tutu

Remember my mission? To inspire everyone to embrace their inner ballerina?

Well, my dear readers, I've been doing some people watching (ballet fans love to watch, you know that!). And here's the exciting thing: I see a growing love for tutus, even from those who are not dancers! They see it as a symbol of fun, expression and, dare I say, joy! Maybe my mission is becoming a reality! Maybe soon you'll see more and more people donning tutus around the world! Pink tutus, I must say, are making their presence felt in a BIG way! Maybe one day every one will join in and wear a pink tutu – and maybe a ballet skirt like me!

I'm always on the lookout for ways to inspire people to try on a tutu, so feel free to leave a comment and share your pink tutu story!

Until next Monday, my loves!

Love always, Emma

P.S. Did you know?

Did you know that May 5th is World Asthma Day? My lovely readers will know I was born in Derbyshire, the green and hilly Peak District, and in Derbyshire a few years back, they brought in a "Go Pink for Asthma" day and fund-raiser. So as always, Pink Tutu will be pink this day. Maybe, it will be the perfect pink, just for this cause! And yes, of course I am looking forward to my little "pink tutu dance performance", so please let me know what pink colour you like best! I love you all, and hope you are happy and well!
