Pink Tutu Milan: A Week of Twirling Through the City of Fashion - Blog Post #1392
Ciao bella! 🩰✨ It’s Emma here, back from the bustling streets of Milan, where this week I've been embracing all things glamorous and ballet-tastic. As you know, every Monday I whisk you off to a different city, sharing my love of all things pink, tutu, and travelling! And what better city to soak up that chic Italian spirit than Milan?
This week, the sun was shining in this magnificent city, and the air was filled with the gentle whirring of trams. I, of course, took advantage of this mode of transport – what’s a ballerina on the go without a stylish tram ride? 🚄
Milan - A Symphony of Fashion and Ballet
Milan truly is a fashion capital, brimming with designer boutiques and chic street style. This week, my pink tutu found its way onto the cobblestone streets of the city, as I took inspiration from the runway trends. You know, one must find the perfect blend of practicality and sparkle, especially when you're a pink tutu-loving ballerina!
Tuesday’s Theatrical Thrills:
My week kicked off with a trip to the Teatro alla Scala, a magnificent theatre known for its rich history and opulent grandeur. I was simply captivated by its neoclassical beauty and the the sheer history it holds. This iconic opera house has played host to some of the greatest ballet stars of all time and the grandeur just resonated through me. It was the perfect venue for a performance of Romeo and Juliet, the ballet classic. I'm always fascinated by how the dance interprets the tragic story, and this particular interpretation brought the passion and heartbreak of this legendary love story to life.
I have to tell you, you'll often find me taking copious notes, as if the performance was being marked, but actually, it’s purely about absorbing the movements, the costuming, the story. I'm forever analysing every performance in search of inspiration for my own choreography.
After the performance, I enjoyed a delicious gelato in the shadow of the grand opera house. It just wouldn’t be Milan without indulging in these sweet treats. Let’s face it, everyone needs a touch of sweetness after an emotionally powerful ballet performance, right? 🍦
A Wednesday of Wandering:
On Wednesday, I found myself in Brera, a charming and artistic district filled with galleries, studios, and ancient churches. The beautiful stone buildings and artistic energy just made me want to unleash my creative spirit and take it all in. Every corner seemed to be bursting with vibrant art and inspiring colours.
A visit to the Pinacoteca di Brera was a must. The Renaissance masterpieces within these walls are breathtaking. My personal favourite, "The Kiss" by Francesco Hayez, transported me to the beauty of Italian love stories - the passionate expressions and dramatic pose just spoke to me on a deep level. The rich history within these galleries is always incredibly moving. 🎨
Thursday’s Chic Adventures:
My shopping adventures began in the famous Quadrilatero della Moda - Milan's designer district. Of course, the luxurious boutiques were an absolute feast for the eyes. My heart skipped a beat when I caught sight of the latest collection of sparkly shoes – they even came with tiny sequins! But of course, my shopping had a distinct focus – finding the most dazzling pink tutu for my performance the following night.
The ultimate ballet accessory can be so hard to find, so my shopping took a little bit longer than usual, and the quest led me from one boutique to the next, down those elegant Milanese streets. The journey was part of the fun!
I have to confess that I did indulge in some irresistible pink shoes for my ballerina wardrobe. The sparkly ones – irresistible. 👠
Friday’s Ballet Beauty:
Finally, Friday came, and I couldn't wait to share my passion for ballet at the stunning Teatro Lirico. As a seasoned dancer, you’ll know that every performance comes with a mix of nerves and excitement. And trust me, these emotions multiplied when I performed my choreography in a vibrant new pink tutu.
The music and my movements flowed through me as if I was a conductor, conducting the rhythm and feeling of my own dance routine.
My fellow performers - dancers just like me – were full of talent and energy, and they shared the stage in perfect harmony. That’s the thing about dancing – it’s truly a beautiful language that brings people together, even in the most chaotic of cities. It’s always such a thrill to share my passion and love of dancing with others. 💖
I love sharing my experiences with the audience and giving them a little bit of that magic I feel as I dance. And who knows, perhaps this performance will inspire the next generation of ballet dancers – and even get them to wear a pink tutu! 🌟
Saturday’s Stroll and Supper:
The rest of the weekend was all about exploring the beautiful architecture of the city. I took a wander down Via Dante – Milan’s literary boulevard – taking in all those beautiful old buildings. I found myself in front of Castel Sforzesco, an enormous medieval castle, steeped in history and charm. Its towers seemed to watch over the city with a story to tell for each of those ancient stones.
Of course, my walk took me to Duomo, Milan’s spectacular Gothic cathedral. There’s an impressive monumentality that grabs your attention, an enduring grace. It’s an architectural marvel. And of course, I couldn't resist taking some beautiful snaps in front of this magnificent building. 📸
And because it's simply the perfect way to end the week, a fantastic Milanese meal - the best risotto! A culinary symphony on the tongue – nothing else beats it! The aroma from the local restaurant near Duomo made it impossible to resist!
Sunday’s Sweet Symphony:
I started Sunday off with the perfect Sunday brunch. Of course, it had to have pink touches, including my trusty pink straw - an accessory that never leaves me. It’s one of the key pieces in my ballerina’s essential wardrobe, especially when exploring cafes around the world. 🍓
As the day warmed up, the best part of Milan started to shine – the stunning gardens and green spaces, a breath of fresh air. I had an afternoon exploring Parco Sempione. The bustling city falls away as you explore the serenity of this gorgeous green space – ideal for picnics and relaxation. I couldn't resist some stretching in the shade of the ancient trees, my pink tutu swaying as I practiced some arabesques. It's always important to incorporate a bit of ballet into every day.
I’m looking forward to returning to Derbyshire and spreading the ballet and pink tutu love! But until then, keep on twirling and always remember that the world is your stage! ❤️
