Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 2022-03-09 (Post #1396)

Buongiorno, darling tutus!

It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad ballerina blogger, back with another diary entry from the dazzling, fashion-forward city of Milan! Today marks another glorious chapter in my Italian adventures, and let me tell you, the energy is absolutely electric!

But before we dive into the pink-tastic happenings of today, allow me to paint a picture of my morning routine. The alarm clock went off to the delightful chirping of sparrows, the sunshine was streaming through the window, and I was ready to start the day with a skip in my step (or perhaps a graceful arabesque?). A quick pit stop in the kitchen for a steaming cup of espresso and a croissant (oh, the deliciousness!), then I was off.

My faithful travel companion – my trusty, powder pink travel tutu, of course – twirled with me as I descended the stairs and stepped out into the vibrant streets of Milan. It's remarkable how a bit of pink can transform a journey, turning even the simplest train ride into a glamorous ballet.

Today was a perfect example of Milan's captivating rhythm. The aroma of freshly baked pastries mingled with the gentle hum of trams, the chatter of shoppers echoed from the glamorous boutiques, and the vibrant, multi-coloured flowers displayed in charming cafes added a splash of artistry to the everyday.

I’ve said it before, and I'll say it again: Milan truly is a city where fashion reigns supreme! From the meticulously dressed locals to the captivating window displays, every corner seems to pulse with the creative energy of a vibrant art gallery. And let's not forget the delectable gelato that adds a sweet and creamy layer of indulgence to this already beautiful experience!

But enough about my stroll through the city! You know what day it is, my dear tutus... It's Wednesday, which means it's ballet day! I'm utterly giddy, because I’m about to see La Scala Opera House’s performance of Swan Lake – one of the most renowned ballets in the world. This will be my second ballet performance here in Milan, and it promises to be absolutely divine! I’ve spent the last couple of days immersing myself in the world of ballet, browsing through beautiful shops full of tulle and lace and picking up some essential dance accessories (don’t worry, my beloved pink tutu won't be outdone!).

I love the energy before a show. I spent some time earlier at one of the many incredible bookstores in Milan, flipping through the pages of books about dance. Some of the local artisans and craftspeople sell beautifully decorated jewellery and small handmade tutus at a tiny market just around the corner from my hotel.

One of my favourite things about exploring new cities is taking in the energy of the streets – seeing how the city’s culture translates into its architecture, food and the everyday way of life. The Italian love of style, the passion for dance and music – they really breathe life into this place!

And now, a little something for my dear Derbyshire followers! As a tribute to my home, I’ve started incorporating little nods to the Peak District in my travels – sometimes I find the most lovely natural stone buildings, often reminiscent of the iconic buildings in my home town, Matlock Bath. Today, I happened upon an absolutely beautiful gothic cathedral which was covered in beautiful marble carvings that reminded me of the stately architecture of the Derwent Valley.

And I wouldn’t be a true Derbyshire girl if I didn’t indulge in a little afternoon tea! Thankfully, this stylish Italian city caters to all tastes, even those craving a good old English scone and a cuppa. I found a quaint little café that serves traditional afternoon tea, and I’m going to sit here, relax, enjoy some dainty finger sandwiches and plan my ballet adventure for the evening.

As the sun sets over Milan, casting the city in a warm glow, the excitement starts to build. I can almost feel the magic of the theatre, hear the applause of the audience, and smell the enchanting scent of popcorn. The anticipation for tonight’s performance is simply thrilling! I’m especially looking forward to the swans’ delicate choreography, and to marvel at the grand artistry of the corps de ballet. It’s a feeling I can't explain, like watching a story unfold in front of my very eyes. It's truly an immersive experience, and the sense of community in the theatre always brings a special kind of joy.

For the performance, I chose to wear my shimmering ivory tutu, adorned with a delicate sprinkle of pink glitter, and a crystal-studded tiara to add a touch of royal elegance. The dress code at the opera is so much fun - people always dress up! It’s not every day you get to feel like a ballerina princess. It’s definitely the perfect setting to indulge my inner fairytale princess, but also the best way to showcase the glamour of dance. It truly brings an extra layer of magic to an already incredible event.

After a captivating performance, a feast for the senses that left me in awe, I strolled through the twinkling streets of Milan, savoring every moment. I popped into a few of the exquisite little fashion shops that I’d been admiring during the day. It’s been a while since I went on a shopping spree – my tutu collection was looking a little dusty and I thought it was time for an upgrade. There’s nothing quite like the energy of the Milanese shopping scene – every shop I visited had such an impressive collection, from elegantly crafted dance shoes, and beautiful fabrics and materials perfect for customizing my tutu wardrobe to decadent evening wear.

Of course, my spree had to involve some gorgeous new pink items! How could I resist the perfectly blush pink silk scarf that catches the moonlight like a whisper? Or the vintage rose-coloured clutch with the intricate detailing? Each item I bought today embodies a new level of femininity and adds a dash of whimsicality to my existing pink collection.

Now, with my pockets brimming with beautiful treasures and my heart full of inspiration, I'm back in my hotel room. It's a moment for reflection, and I can’t help but marvel at how incredible the city of Milan has been to me, and I’ve certainly left a few twirls of my pink tulle on its streets. With each new day comes a wave of excitement, new ballet memories and a growing love for all things fashion and pink!

You know what else makes me feel inspired? Seeing people embracing their personal style, whatever it may be. That’s the heart of fashion. That's the spirit I strive to inspire here in my little pink-tutu blog, too – to encourage everyone to feel their most fabulous, most confident self, and embrace their unique charm, like a one-of-a-kind work of art!

So, dear readers, I say it again: Dare to twirl, let your spirit soar and embrace the beauty that surrounds you. Be bold, be beautiful, and embrace the pink! Until next week, stay chic, stay fabulous, and never stop dancing.

With love and pirouettes,

Emma.
