Pink Tutu Milan: #1437 - A Magical Milanese Monday
Buongiorno, my darlings! It's Emma here, reporting live from the fabulous fashion capital of the world - Milan! I've been swept away by this magnificent city, its bustling energy, and oh my, the gelato is just divine!
Today, the sun is shining so bright, even the pigeons on Piazza del Duomo look chic with their feathery black coats. I’ve just enjoyed a cup of cappuccino and a delectable croissant from a little cafe down the road – perfect fuel for a day of exploring the beautiful, cobbled streets.
I'm really starting to feel the magic of Milan, it’s got such a rich artistic history. Today I visited the Teatro alla Scala – an opera house that has hosted the greatest singers of all time. Can you imagine? I would give anything to sing on that stage! And speaking of the stage, it wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Milan adventure without some ballet, right? This afternoon, I saw the most exquisite ballet performance at the Teatro alla Scala. The dancers were incredible! I sat mesmerised, lost in a world of swirling tutus and breathtaking choreography. They even had a little ballerina with bright pink ribbons in her hair and a dazzling smile. I almost reached out and gave her a high five, but luckily my well-mannered manners held back my urge!
This week I’m staying in a little boutique hotel called the 'Grand Duomo,' and the staff here have been absolutely divine! Their uniforms have a little touch of pink – you know I appreciate that! I have to say, Milan has quickly become my favourite city in all of Europe. It has this sophisticated, yet whimsical atmosphere – something I really respond to. I also met the most lovely French gentleman last night in a little cocktail bar (all pink, of course!) near my hotel, he works at a gallery and offered me a beautiful, velvet framed rose in a pink hue. Can you believe my luck?!
I've been feeling super creative here. I’ve actually had this inspiration for a whole new range of tutus. Think: Milanese-inspired colours, textures, and shapes! Maybe a sleek black tutu with a touch of golden embroidery, or perhaps a tutu made from lace and soft Italian fabrics. Oh the possibilities! This is all so exciting, I have so many ideas for designs! Maybe I can start by incorporating them into a fashion show? Ooh, perhaps we can even create a pop-up ballet studio right here in the heart of Milan! It would be a dream to combine my passion for ballet and fashion with a beautiful backdrop like this city.
One of the best things about Milan is the food, of course! Oh my goodness, have you ever had pizza Margherita? It’s like a piece of heaven on a plate! And don't get me started on the pasta. I had a divine carbonara last night that left me craving for more. The food in Milan is absolutely heavenly. But what truly excites me are the gorgeous cafes, they’re the most adorable, sweet little spots to grab a bite and enjoy the afternoon sun.
You know me, darling, a bit of shopping is always a must, right? Today I went exploring some vintage shops near the Duomo, hunting for some chic Milanese bargains! You know, there’s something so delightful about finding a real treasure among vintage clothes – that hidden gem with a little history. I also wandered through the shops in the Quadrilatero della Moda - the fashion district, my goodness the shops here are absolutely magical! All of the iconic fashion designers - Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Armani. I can see how their designs get so much inspiration from this beautiful, glamorous city!
Of course, no trip to Milan would be complete without a ride on the trams, which are very much like my beloved Derbyshire trams, only more luxurious and much, much fancier! They glide around like silk, even the sound of the wheels on the tracks are beautifully quiet! And you simply can’t resist snapping a photo of the trams. They're an absolute art form, and perfectly capture the chic style of Milan. I swear they're like tiny pink ballet slippers gliding gracefully through the streets! I am making a new ballet for my ballet school when I return to Derbyshire - "A Ballet for Milan," - of course it has a very pink tutu and the lead ballerina will ride a tiny, very pretty pink, wheeled contraption. The stage designer for that one is getting excited!
You’ll be relieved to hear that even Milan is a wonderfully pink-friendly city! Pink everywhere, darlings. From pink buildings to pink cafes to the little, pretty shops overflowing with pink goodies. I was even gifted a pair of lovely, dusty pink suede ballet shoes from the lovely shoe shop in Piazza del Duomo – they have beautiful lace ribbons – I just had to add them to my collection! Oh darling, you have no idea how much I need a new pair of pink ballet shoes in my life!
I’ve learned something very important during this trip. I’m starting to realise the importance of seeing the world, experiencing different cultures, and understanding the magic in every corner of the world. It really expands the soul, like wearing the perfect pair of pink shoes.
There's still so much to see here. Tomorrow, I am heading out for a delightful day trip to Lake Como. I’ve heard the views are stunning! I will be posting plenty of photos and stories of this journey over on my Instagram page - @pinktututravels – be sure to check it out, darlings!
It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Milan post without a little challenge, would it? This week, I dare you to wear pink on a Monday - yes, Monday, like I am! You can wear pink on your tops, shoes, even pink lipstick! The more pink the better, because we need to show the world that pink is for everyone!
So, my dears, don't forget to keep your tutus and hearts sparkling. Sending you all the love and joy from my little corner of the pink, gorgeous city of Milan! Until next time, chin chin!
